1 Prologue

A man woke up to the screams that were piercing his ears. Everything was a blur until his eyes adjusted. Looking around, he realized that the usual lump in the blankets that resembled his wife was gone. The covers flew off the bed, and within seconds, the man was out the room in search for his wife and daughter.

The electricity was out and the only thing that guided him was the light from outside. Blue and red lights invaded the house through every window. It looked as if a party was going on but instead of music, there were screams and sirens.

The man rushed as fast as he could, in fear that his family could already be dead. As he descended the stairs, two silhouettes came into view. He immediately began to feel relief once he recognize his wife and daughter in the living room.

"Daddy! What's happening?"

"I don't know. Stay near mommy, I'm going to figure out what is going on," said the man to his daughter, but not knowing that they were going to be the last words he would ever say to her again.

While heading towards the door, the man hesitated for a moment. He knew that when he opened the door to the outside, it would be the same as opening the gates to hell. Nevertheless, no matter what may be beyond the door, the man knew he must find out answers for the safety of his family.

Slowly he turned the knob and peeked through the crack in the door. What laid before his eyes was what he had expected after all. Hell. Every inch of land was aflame. More than half of the houses on the block were nothing but a few boards sticking out of the ground. Ashes covered everything and fell from the sky as if it were snowing. He turned back to his family and told them to stay put while he went out to find survivors.

The man walked slowly around the heaps of broken tree limbs and burning bushes. He did not notice them before but now he could make out the bodies that wandered around. There were people all around walking and crying. Little kids were screaming for their mothers and mothers were screaming for their kids. Just about everyone was crying out for love ones or for help, but one man just sat.

As he walked up to the man sitting on the broken bench the guy spoke, "I seen them. They are here. They are going to kill us all." Then the guy stopped and stared straight into the eyes of the man. Fear invaded his eyes. "I feel them inside of me. It hurts, and I'm so hungry. Can you help me?"

"I'm sorry but I don't have any food on me. Come with me and we can find you help and possibly food."

"No! I can't wait that long! I NEED IT NOW!" and with that, the hungry guy lunged for the man. He started clawing and scratching then started to speak but this time the words couldn't be understood. The only thing that escaped the guy's mouth was gibberish and spit.

The man was pinned down by his upper arms and waist. Panic and fear filled every inch of his body. Never before had he been in any situation where his life was on the line. He was a common cowered and accepted it. The bravest thing he's ever done was walking out his house just moments before.

This was it. This was the moment when his life should have flashed before his eyes, but instead bright light filled them and a voice spoke to him.

Are you ready? Are you ready to live a better life? Are you ready to become something you're not and be something greater?

"Who the hell are you?!? Stop speaking and help me! I can't see shit. What the hel___"

Silence. Everything seemed to stop. There was no beaming light, there was no man trying to eat him, there was no sound. It was so quiet that one could hear their own heartbeat, but there was no heartbeat either.

The man opened his eyes and was back in the same place as before. While things around him looked the same, he was not. There was only one thing on his mind now. It was filled with hunger and lust. It had overpowered all other things that had once occupied his mind. Blood. And he knew just where to find it.
