Lucid Nightmare

I spoke resolutely, "I have a solution to that."

The both of them looked at me with curious eyes but I would have to disappoint.

I smirked, "You'll see. When I am not worrying about the admission test I will start working on my invention. If the results are how I want them to be then communication should not be a problem."

Zeph didn't really understand what we were talking about but he got the gist of it.

"Are you going to be gone for a while?"

He made a pouty face like he was about to cry.

I put my hand on Zeph's head, "Don't worry, I'll visit whenever I can."

I smiled and Zeph seemed to look a little better than before.

I turned back to Elena and Markus, even Melody, and put on a serious face.

"I am creating something that very well may change the entire world. I plan to release it to the public eventually but I'm not so dumb as to make it free. I don't want others stealing my idea so when you get my invention don't reveal it to anyone else except for the people at this table."

I looked around and everyone nodded in unison.

I looked at the clock above the refrigerator and it read 9:37 pm.

I changed the mood, "It's getting late so I will head off to bed."

Melody chimed in, "I'll go to bed as well. Good night."

Melody and I walked up the stairs. When we reached the top we parted ways, each going to our own room.

I opened my door to see the same old bed and dresser. This room was really lacking decor but it had the necessities.

I moved my body over to my bed and plopped down on top of it. Today was a stressful day and tomorrow will probably be worse. Just thinking about this made me exhausted.

Eventually I drifted off under the soft sheets and the comfortable bed beneath me.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

Plop.

My eyes shot open.

Drip.

Drip.

Plop.

Water droplets fell from the ceiling and continuously pelted my face.

I stared straight up at the dark ceiling but couldn't see anything. I casually looked around but was surprised at the sight before me.

'Where am I?'

I tried to speak but words would not come.

The cold, rocky floor beneath me was horrible to sleep on and my body was stiff.

I tried to get up but my body wouldn't listen to me. Eventually, it got up on its own.

My head pivoted from side to side and I caught a glimpse of where I was; a cave.

I couldn't get a good look at my surroundings and could barely see a meter in front of me.

My head decided to look behind me and I saw something on the ground. I was too far away too make out what it was but the outline of it looked like a living creature.

My body crept through the black darkness that was all around me until it stood in front of the thing laying on the floor.

It was a person.

A voice that wasn't mine spoke, "H-Hey, are you okay?"

There was no response from the person on the ground but the walls responded with an echo.

My body, this body, whoever's it was, decided to get closer to the person.

I slowly placed one foot in front of the other until I could make out the little details i could on the person in question.

She was a girl around the age of eight based on the size of her body. She was wearing clothing with tares on them and looked like she had just jumped off a cliff.

My body decided to get even closer and stuck its head against the girls chest.

Badump...Badump

I sighed a breath of relief, or was it my body?

I couldn't tell anymore.

'This body feels familiar.'

I couldn't help but notice how comfortable I felt in this body but uncomfortable at the same time. It felt like I was back in my old body.

I placed one hand under the back of her knees and placed the other under her back. I lifted her up and readjusted my hands until I was comfortable.

I looked down at the girl's face and nearly dropped her from surprise and fright.

Since I was closer to the girl I could make out her facial features. She had two horns protruding from her forehead, each having a blue and green spiral pattern on them. Her face was black, pitch-black. It was no wonder I couldn't make out the facial features of her before.

My body regained its grip on the girl and composed itself.

My heart was still beating fast but my body refused to let go of the girl.

It was very hard to see but I managed to take steps forward.

I stepped forward with my bare feet and felt the jagged rocks on the floor breaking the skin under them.

I felt the pain in my feet like it was real, like this situation was real but my body didn't stop moving forward.

'How long did I walk for?'

My arms were tired from holding the girl and my legs were about to give out beneath me because of the pain in my feet, but there was a silver lining, I saw light!

I could finally see in front of me and light in a cave means an exit. It seemed my body had the same realization as me because it started to pick up the pace towards the light.

It got brighter and brighter until I could see the outside. Except it wasn't what I was expecting.

I gently placed the girl on the ground and stepped out of the cave and into a hurricane.

Trees were being pulled from their roots and flew far across the landscape, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. The wind nearly nocked me off my feet and I continued struggling to stand. The rain drops hitting my skin felt like it was getting pelted by BB pellets and I could barely open my eyes. The loud thunder made my ears ring.

I rushed back into the cave and collapsed next to the horned girl.

I breathed heavy breaths and laid flat on my back for a few minutes catching my breath, my skin bleeding from being pelted with the high speed rain droplets.

'This situation feels familiar too.'

The storm, the little girl, the cave. It all seemed familiar. I felt as though I should know why it felt like this but I couldn't put my finger on it.

My head suddenly turned to look at the little girl laying next to me and my mind shook.

'W-What, but that's me?'

I could see the girl clearly now but the girl was me. Well, the me in my new body me. I could recognize that face and red, shoulder length hair anywhere. I had two horns and pitch-black skin but that was still me.

'If i'm over there then...'

As if my body responded to my will for once it rolled over onto its stomach and faced the puddle on the floor.

'T-This is...'

My old body. It was me when I was around eight years old.

'Wait, don't tell me...'

I know exactly what this is. The memory of that day was always fuzzy and left out a lot of details but it was vivid now. The cave, the girl, the storm. No wonder it was so familiar.

'This was how my life started.'

I don't remember anything before that day in the cave. It was like I was born as an eight year old boy. No memories, and a sense of longing, like my soul was missing a part of itself.

My consciousness started to falter but I managed to look into the puddle again. This time my reflection wasn't staring back at me.

It was a dark figure wearing a black hoodie with the hood covering their face.

'It's you!'

It was the figure from the night I looked outside my window. I tried to call out to the figure but nothing came out of my mouth.

As if the figure knew what I was trying to say, it smiled and spoke but not out loud. It was like their thoughts forced themselves into my mind.

"Find me."

It echoed in my head and my consciousness faded even faster now. My eyelids reluctantly closed and I passed out.

***

My body jolted awake, cold sweat covering my entire body and I was breathing heavily.

I looked around and noticed that I was back in my under-decorated room, laying on my soft bed.

My thoughts began to run wild.

'Was that a dream? No, that was definitely my first memory. Then who was that person? What do they want from me? Why was my new body there as well?'

I only found one solution to my questions.

'I have to find that black figure.'

I was restless for the rest of the night so I just laid on my bed, thinking about my new, vivid memory and how my life is always exciting, one way or another.

Sorry for not posting on Friday. I decided that I wanted this chapter to be really good since it is important to the backstory of the protagonist. Thanks for waiting!
