Enrollment

A year and a half passed just like that. Today was my enrollment into Thorn Hill Academy. I have been looking forward to this day but have also been dreading it. I knew that as soon as I entered I would be ridiculed by my classmates alongside Melody. But today I am prepared. I have quite a few tricks up my sleeve along with new spells. Hopefully I won't have to reveal my cards so early.

***

It was the morning of Melody's and my enrollment.

"Nova! Come down for breakfast or you will be late to school!"

Ugh, I shouldn't have taught Elena Sound Tunnel. I rolled out of bed and walked downstairs still in my pajamas.

Melody was perky this morning, "Nova, good morning!"

I replied sleepily, "good morning..."

Melody looked at me concerned, "Nova are you all right?"

"I should be asking you that. How can someone be so hyper in the morning?"

Although I said this, I like that about Melody. She is always smiling and sees the good in everyone. I want to protect that innocence as much as I can.

I sat in between Melody and Zeph. There was breakfast but I wasn't that hungry so I ate a little and dumped the rest in the trash bin. Shortly after we finished eating it was time to leave. I got dressed and grabbed my school bag.

Melody and I spoke before leaving, "I'm off!"

Elena responded from the kitchen, "Take care!"

Zeph looked up from his plate of food and spoke with his mouth full, "Take care!"

Markus just looked up from his newspaper and nodded. This guy's personality fluctuates like the waves of the ocean!

Melody and I left towards Sound Village.

***

We arrived at Thorn Hill after about thirty minutes of walking. It was in a remote part of Sound Village and one could instantly tell It was a rich area. Huge mansions were seen in the residential areas and upscale restaurants swarmed with people. Compared to everyone else walking around here, Melody and I stood out the most.

Thorn Hill was a sight for sore eyes. What was the point of having such a large school for such a small amount of people? It was a waste of money and was a way for the rich to flaunter their family's money. It made me sick to my stomach but I sucked it up. It was necessary to enroll here if I want to become well known in the magical world. We walked onto the campus and up to the main entrance.

Melody looked at me nervously, "I don't know about this..."

I reassured her, "I promise Nothing will happen to us. We made sure to prepare ourselves for today. We can do this."

Melody smiled nervously, "Alright, I believe you, Nova."

I advised her, "No matter how many people stare, just walk with your head held high. Don't look weak or else they will come after us. Understand?"

She nodded slightly and I opened the doors to the inside of the building.

The campus was big but the school was bigger. The inside looked like it was constructed for royalty! There were high rise chandeliers with crystals refracting the light emitted from them. There was a grand staircase and even red carpet on it. This was too excessive!

The school was bustling with students. Conversations could be heard throughout the hallway but as soon as Melody and I entered everyone paused what they were doing and stared at us. Some students whispered while others sneered. It was exactly the response I had expected.

I whispered to Melody, "Don't let them bother you. lets head to the courtyard for the introduction speech."

We walked through the eying crowds and went to the courtyard. When we entered the courtyard it looked like the Garden of Eden! It was really too excessive! There was a huge coy pond that looked like a lake and a waterfall, pouring water into the pond continuously. Trees stood tall periodically around the courtyard. I took one last look then lined up in an orderly fashion with the other students. Melody and I got separated but promised to meet up later as it was better to walk around the campus together for safety. I don't trust any of the students here.

There was a stage set up with a podium in the front center of the stage. Behind the podium was a considerably old man with a very long white beard and a bold head. He looked like a monk.

The old man spoke with a rough voice, "Welcome new students to Thorn Hill Academy. I know you kids don't like speeches so I will keep it short. I have very high expectations for you all this year. As newly enrolled students..."

The old man continued his speech but it was rather boring. Eventually he got to an important topic.

"Indeed, everyone here has a high magical aptitude but some are better than others. Hence, we divide students into classes based on a test. Each of you will be tested in various ways ranging from knowledge of magic to combat power. I look forward to everyone's placement. Thank you."

The old man turned and walked off stage. All the students clapped politely. Then, a student I could only presume was the freshmen representative walked up to the podium to present her speech. The girl had long black hair and a beautiful figure. She looked like a porcelain doll. The definition of perfection was standing at the podium smiling. If I was straight, one glance at her would make me question my sexuality!

The girl began her speech, "Hello classmates. My name is Cynthia and I am the freshmen representative of our class. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. I am here to help you get through the school year. Everyone work hard and make Thorn Hill Academy proud."

When she finished her speech an applause louder than the one before sounded loudly throughout the courtyard. I used a weak Sound Barrier to block some of the sound because it was that loud. It seemed this Cynthia was quite a popular person, I better keep my eye on her. Everyone was dismissed so students headed to the bulletin board to see where their first test would take place and with whom. The board was crowded so I waited for the crowd to die down a bit before taking a look at where I should go. I looked at the board and was surprised at the odds.
