EPISODE 2:

"SOMETHING TO GIVE" 

OPENING CREDITS 

FADE IN 

INT. THE TAVERN 

SHANE looks about as THE TAVERN was more of the DIVE BAR setting as AUSTIN had told him a few days ago, SHANE taking a seat at a booth as CHARLES, AUSTIN, and another WOMAN, a petite beautiful 26 year old with a hard look. SHANE looks at her as she sits in the inside of the booth by CHARLES as AUSTIN scooted inward as SHANE sits as he notices EMMA working at the bar, taking a shot with a few other UNDEAD MEN. 

SHANE

You weren't lying about this place changing up at a whim? 

AUSTIN 

You know it, how you doing young blood? 

SHANE

Alright, got a haircut, met a cute little...vampire I guess at a movie, movie was...different. 

CHARLES

Seems like you and the FRINGE are starting to get along pretty well. 

SHANE

Well enough. 

CHARLES

SHANE, this is NIKKI LYNN, or as she's known by her death name, 54 till 2. 

NIKKI

Hello, SHANE. 

SHANE

Pleasure, NIKKI. 

The TWO shake hands across the table as AUSTIN eyes her, NIKKI not even passing a glance as CHARLES throws a finger up towards EMMA, EMMA smirking as she comes around the BAR towards them. 

CHARLES

We usually meet up here unless it's closed or busy. 

SHANE

What's going on here? 

CHARLES 

You're meeting COLBY. 

SHANE

Who's COLBY? 

AUSTIN

COLBY'S our HANDLER. He passes down the missions, CHARLES looks them over and then assigns them to us. 

SHANE

Shouldn't ANTHONY be here? 

The GROUP snicker as EMMA comes over as she puts her hand on her hip as she looks them over. 

SHANE

What's so funny? 

CHARLES

ANTHONY is more of my REAPER. In any case he's not relegated to tactical. 

EMMA

Not like COLBY to be late. 

CHARLES

I don't think he's late, still got a few more minutes. 

EMMA

Why'd you call me over already then if we're...

CHARLES

To help SHANE here understand how this works. 

EMMA

Yes, boss. 

EMMA touches his SHOULDER as CHARLES smirks as SHANE looks at AUSTIN who was eyeballing NIKKI, NIKKI focusing more on her drink. 

SHANE

So COLBY gives CHARLES the missions, which we then have to complete, so who gives him the missions? Or what does? 

NIKKI

The SYSTEM determines all the missions, an OVERSEER, which is like a glorified supervisor then vies for the job, depending on the team's track record. 

AUSTIN

OVERSEER'S are usually ANGEL or DEMON, they are our ceiling, then it's the HANDLER, then CHARLES here, then it's us. Everything flows down, then back up. 

CHARLES

Our OVERSEER is TERESA, she's an ANGEL, and...a stickler for things. 

SHANE

A stickler? 

EMMA

She's a tight ass basically. 

SHANE

Aren't all ANGELS tight asses? 

EMMA

Not as much as you'd think. 

COLBY

Hello party people. 

SHANE watches as a semi muscular, fine featured mid thirties UNDEAD MAN arrives. COLBY JARRETT, the HANDLER, wearing his finest suit arrives with a VANILLA FOLDER that he hands to CHARLES. 

COLBY

You must be TWELVE PAST MIDNIGHT. COLBY'S the name. 

SHANE

Nice to meet you. 

SHANE shakes his hand as COLBY smiles a winning smile as EMMA pats him on the shoulder. 

SHANE 

Don't you have a death name too? Been learning everyone else's. 

COLBY

HANDLER'S don't remember their death names. 

SHANE

Huh? 

COLBY

When you become a HANDLER such as myself, you go through a purging process to become more...work minded within the SYSTEM. Basically, I don't remember my death name...or when I was alive. 

SHANE

Bummer. 

COLBY

Maybe. CHARLES, I'll see you later, everyone, stay safe. 

COLBY turns and leaves as quickly as he came, CHARLES going through the FILES as he nods, handing a sheet to NIKKI and then one to EMMA. 

CHARLES 

Two jobs, NIKKI yours is pretty straight forward, you can take AUSTIN as back up if you think it'll help. 

NIKKI

I'll be fine. 

AUSTIN 

Cold. 

NIKKI

No offense, AUSTIN, you know I like to do things on my own. 

AUSTIN 

Yeah, yeah. What did EMMA get? 

EMMA

Retrieval. Always fun. 

AUSTIN 

I guess I'll help you with that. 

CHARLES

Actually...SHANE is going to. 

AUSTIN

WHAT?! Already. 

CHARLES

It's just as back up, EMMA, you going to be alright with that? 

EMMA

Me and new meat should be able to handle this. 

CHARLES

Give him a few days, I need AUSTIN here to teach him how to handle himself. 

AUSTIN 

Are you kidding me, come' on CHARLES, where's my mission? 

CHARLES

You didn't get one, and didn't I just give you one? 

AUSTIN 

Yeah, boss, but training...? 

CHARLES

Train him right and maybe you get the next decent one, but train him half ass and you won't get shit for a while. 

AUSTIN 

No need to play hardball, goddamnit. 

CHARLES

Watch the attitude, SHANE, you going to be alright with some physical training before I send you out there like a newborn puppy? 

SHANE

Don't see me with much of a choice. 

EMMA

Don't worry, I'll help out, AUSTIN'S methods of training sometimes get a little out of hand. 

CHARLES

Good, you all know what you're supposed to do, so do it. SHANE you stick around for a minute, NIKKI, AUSTIN, thanks for showing up as always, EMMA, I'm sure you have thirsty patrons. 

EMMA

Well duh. 

EMMA hurries off as CHARLES scoots out and lets NIKKI out, AUSTIN hoping over the side of the BOOTH as he quickly hurries and rushes to catch up with NIKKI as CHARLES sets the file folder down as SHANE takes a sip of his drink. 

EXT. THE TAVERN 

AUSTIN calls NIKKI'S name a few times before she slows down from her quick pace, AUSTIN smirking as she rolls her eyes as AUSTIN walks side by side with her. 

AUSTIN 

You're really not going to let me help out on this one? 

NIKKI

It's a fish for information about some possible arms trafficking, it's not something I need your help with, I do this all the time, besides, GENO knows me, he might be more willing to help me find out who it is with just me then with someone like you breathing heavily on everything. 

AUSTIN 

I don't breathe heavily...

NIKKI

AUSTIN, is this about helping me on this or something else? 

AUSTIN 

What? Oh come' on NIKKI, it's not like that at all. 

NIKKI

Isn't it? 

AUSTIN 

No. 

NIKKI

Fine. 

AUSTIN 

Or I don't know, look just let me help you out, I really don't want to train anybody again. 

NIKKI

Lazy ass. It's still no. 

AUSTIN 

Fine. 

AUSTIN lights a cigarette as he turns and heads off as NIKKI continues to walk, NIKKI wanting to look back but doesn't as AUSTIN just stands outside the tavern taking heavy drags. 

INT. THE TAVERN 

CHARLES takes a good sized swig as SHANE checks out the new talent that walked in as CHARLES checks them out as well before the two meet each other's gaze. 

CHARLES 

Are you going to be alright, me sending you on an official mission and all? 

SHANE

You said I'm just riding shotgun. So why shouldn't I be? 

CHARLES

Because it's a real mission. That shit you were on the other night with AUSTIN that was just child's play, a toe in the water. This is a full fledged mission, dangerous. 

SHANE

You said it was retrieval? 

CHARLES

It is. But just because that's what it is doesn't mean that shit can't or won't happen. I just want you to understand that you're about to get thrown slightly into the deep end. And though you'll get some training so you don't bumble your way through, you're going into this completely green. I'm not fond of this, but I think a little unconventional may do you some good. 

SHANE

You're the boss. 

CHARLES 

If I were you, I'd get a good night's sleep, AUSTIN won't take it easy on you. How is staying at ANTHONYS going? Getting sick of each other yet? 

SHANE

It's actually not too bad. 

CHARLES

I would honestly start looking for work, what were you good at back in your living days?

SHANE

I was a mechanic. 

CHARLES

You might be able to find something, once you and EMMA wrap things up with your little caper, I want you to talk to a guy named BRUTUS, he runs a dingy little mechanic shop about six blocks east from here, he might be able to help you. 

SHANE

Thanks. 

CHARLES

I'll catch up with you kids later, get that rest. 

CHARLES leaves some money as he gets out of the booth and waving at EMMA he heads out as SHANE takes his glass and comes over to the bar, taking a seat as EMMA comes over. 

EMMA

Looks like it's going to be me and you new meat. Excited? 

SHANE

I don't know, should I be? 

EMMA smirks as SHANE winks at her and takes a drink as EMMA flicks him on the nose as SHANE snickers as EMMA goes down the bar and greets some new patrons. 

INT. ANTHONY'S APARTMENT 

ANTHONY raises an eyebrow as SHANE takes a seat on the couch as ANTHONY was wearing an apron as he was cooking in the kitchen. 

ANTHONY

CHARLES put you with EMMA? 

SHANE

Seems like, I met NIKKI tonight too for the first time, and COLBY. 

ANTHONY

Yeah yeah, so EMMA huh? 

SHANE

I didn't ask for it. 

ANTHONY

I'm aware of that, I'm just...I did tell you how she handles getting to know people right? 

SHANE

Yes, and she hasn't even hinted at hitting on me yet, so...

ANTHONY

She will. 

SHANE

Maybe she won't, maybe I'm just so not her type that she'll...

ANTHONY

Look at me, you think I'm her type? 

SHANE

Hell no. 

ANTHONY

Well then your argument has no valid points. 

SHANE

Look we'll just see what happens, I'm not thinking about it, I just wanna get through this training period and not fuck up on my mission. 

ANTHONY 

Yeah...I guess you're right. 

SHANE

What's you cooking by the way? 

ANTHONY

Something called Jewish wedding soup. 

SHANE

That sounds...awful. 

ANTHONY

Don't knock my shit till you try it. 

SHANE

So who trained you? 

ANTHONY

Trained me? Fuckin' no one, I was around before AUSTIN got declared trainer. I was good with people, talking, fighting and all that,  man, I can hold my own with the pistol but that's about it. 

SHANE

You named yours? 

ANTHONY

REVOLT. You? 

SHANE

Still thinking about it. 

ANTHONY 

It'll come to you in time. 

SHANE

How's the movie going? 

ANTHONY

Financing is all in place, just waiting on the start dates now as we head into pre production. 

SHANE

Haha. Bullet Express. 

ANTHONY

Shut up. 

SHANE nods as ANTHONY continues cooking as SHANE thumbs his hands. 

SHANE

What was your first mission like? 

ANTHONY

Chaos. CHARLES and COLBY were...

SHANE

CHARLES and COLBY? 

ANTHONY

Yeah. COLBY used to be a RECLAIMER, freelance, he used to be in a crew with CHARLES before CHARLES took on this job as a point man. I don't know what happened, but sometime years later a mission went wrong, and COLBY turned himself over to the SYSTEM. Mind wiped his living days, took away his death name, and made him our handler. 

SHANE

Damn. 

ANTHONY

So CHARLES called COLBY in for some support, COLBY never turned CHARLES down. We were running with some other guys at the time, it has been so long I can't even remember their names. Anyways, I was assigned one thing, don't let anyone that wasn't us pass the checkpoint at the edge of a town that we had cornered off. 

SHANE

Lemme guess, you let someone through. 

ANTHONY

Someone? Try all of them. Turns out they had some help with a HANDLER from another group who tipped them off, twenty of these guys come barreling at me in this like TANK and the fuck was I suppose to do? I just stepped aside, took a drink of some coke I had in bottle and just let CHARLES and them chew my ass out, but fuck that, I ain't no one man army. 

SHANE

Maybe one day you will be? 

ANTHONY

Kinda late for that to all happen. 

SHANE

Ya never know man. 

ANTHONY

Yeah yeah, come here and try this, I think it's ready. 

SHANE gets off of the couch as he comes into the kitchen and ANTHONY pours him a bowl from the crock pot. SHANE grabs a spoon and takes a bite of it, SHANE rolling his eyes as he looks at ANTHONY with a satisfied look as ANTHONY smirks. 

ANTHONY

Told you.  

SHANE begins to slurp and drink away at the soup as ANTHONY fixes himself a bowl. 

INT. TRAINING ROOM 

SHANE is knocked into the wall as AUSTIN is wearing black shorts and a black wife beater as SHANE was similarly dressed as EMMA was standing off in the corner watching as SHANE was slowly trying to stand as AUSTIN shakes his hand a few times before locking it back into a fist. 

SHANE spits out some blood as he holds his jaw as AUSTIN bounces around. 

AUSTIN 

Before you learn any of the tricks of the trades, you need to know how much tolerance in pain you can take, knowing your limit helps. 

SHANE

So you're just going to beat my ass is that it? 

AUSTIN 

For right now. You're more than welcome to get some shots in and take me out if you think you can. 

EMMA

Don't toy with him too long AUSTIN, I kinda wanna get started sooner rather than later...

AUSTIN

You'll get him when I'm done with him. 

EMMA huffs as AUSTIN motions for SHANE to come at him, SHANE doing so as he throws a few punches but AUSTIN easily avoids them, landing a spleen punch that knocks SHANE off balance as AUSTIN runs and jump kicks SHANE in the chest, SHANE falling over hard onto his back as AUSTIN comes over and picks SHANE up, but SHANE quickly knocks AUSTIN'S arms away, SHANE landing a clean hook to AUSTIN'S LEFT CHEEK, which rocks AUSTIN for a split moment but AUSTIN quickly knees forward, knocking it into SHANE'S ribs before AUSTIN back fists SHANE across the face, landing a flurry of PUNCHES that cause EMMA to cringe as SHANE'S face was beginning to swell as AUSTIN lands a few more punches before he pushes SHANE over onto his back, SHANE reeling as AUSTIN steps back breathing heavy as he looks at EMMA who looks at him concerned. 

AUSTIN 

He's fine. 

SHANE

Fuck you I am...

EMMA

I think he can take a pretty good beating. 

AUSTIN 

Do you think anyone out there is going to take it easy on him? 

AUSTIN runs over and punts SHANE across his nose, EMMA jerking forward as she catches herself as AUSTIN paces around SHANE who was holding his nose. 

AUSTIN 

The best way to heal your wounds is to concentrate. You won't heal all of them, but if you focus well enough, you can make the pain subside enough to withstand a hell of a lot more punishment. 

SHANE reels as AUSTIN still paces about. 

AUSTIN 

Focus...take deep breaths, and think about something else other than the pain, you do that, the wounds themselves will feel like nothing, but movements will probably bring some of that sensation back. 

SHANE takes deep breaths as he closes his eyes, AUSTIN watching carefully as EMMA was watching on as well, AUSTIN coming over towards SHANE but as he does SHANE hops up and uppercuts AUSTIN across his jaw, AUSTIN reeling as he hits the padded wall, SHANE standing as he winces and throws his arms up, ready to attack but as he does EMMA runs and jumping up she spin kicks SHANE across his face, SHANE not prepared for it as he falls over, wincing in pain as EMMA puts her shoe to his chest. 

EMMA

Danger and enemies will come at all sides, at all times, you must not solely focus on your opponent unless you know one hundred percent that you and he...or she, is alone. Anyone can be an enemy and no one here fights fair. 

SHANE

Good lesson. 

EMMA steps off of him as AUSTIN comes over and helps SHANE up. 

AUSTIN 

Give me a few more weeks and I'll have you fighting like a champ. 

SHANE

This wasn't fight training? 

AUSTIN 

No, self defense and ass whooping training. How are you feeling? 

SHANE

Okay. 

AUSTIN 

The pain? 

SHANE

Manageable. 

AUSTIN 

Catch on quick, good. Have you ever shot a gun before? 

SHANE

Used too, all the time, I am from TEXAS. 

AUSTIN 

Haha. Show me how good you are. 

INT. SHOOTING RANGE

SHANE holds his PISTOl up as he fires fifteen rounds, one after the other, SHANE lowering the pistol as AUSTIN hits the button and brings the PAPER TARGET forward, revealing eight bulls eyes, and seven shots near or around it. 

SHANE smirks but AUSTIN doesn't look as impressed. 

SHANE

Oh come on, that shit is gold. 

AUSTIN 

Maybe for everything else. But we're UNDEAD. You gotta destroy the eyes with us. 

SHANE

Fuck. 

AUSTIN 

I mean don't get me wrong it's good, but we need to know that you can take the big fish out. 

SHANE

Set me up. 

AUSTIN smirks as he takes the target down and puts another up, hitting the button as it resets itself, SHANE listening to the internal cartridge recharge before SHANE quickly fires off another fifteen rounds. 

AUSTIN hits the button and watches as the target comes back, showcasing six round bulls-eyes to the left eye and seven to the right with only two misses that hit the skull. 

SHANE looks at AUSTIN with a raised eyebrow as AUSTIN nods. 

AUSTIN 

I think we found your niche. 

SHANE

Too bad I'm not supposed to shoot shit up. 

AUSTIN 

You may. Always keep that baby on you. She got a name? 

SHANE

Not yet. 

AUSTIN 

I would think of one. She deserves it. 

SHANE

I will. 

AUSTIN 

You can take an ass whooping, and you can shoot. You're not too bad, SHANE. 

SHANE

Thanks. 

AUSTIN 

EMMA can take care of herself, but it's nice to know she may have a competent guy watching over her. Listen to her, do as she says, and it should go smooth. 

SHANE

I'm only getting one day? 

AUSTIN 

All you need right now. 

SHANE

If you say so. 

AUSTIN pats him on the back as he looks at the TARGET SHEET. 

AUSTIN 

400 bucks says you can't do this good again. 

SHANE

Shit you're on. 

AUSTIN changes the TARGET SHEET as SHANE smirks and aims forward again as AUSTIN crosses his arms and watches SHANE unload again. 

INT. THE TAVERN 

EMMA locks the doors as SHANE looks around to see the TAVERN was still the DIVE BAR, EMMA coming over towards a table where she has some papers and pictures set about as SHANE grabs a beer from behind the bar, EMMA signaling she want's one as well as SHANE grabs another and heads around the BAR, coming towards her as he hands her her beer as the TWO sit across from each other. 

SHANE

Seems like you've been busy. 

EMMA

You gotta scout, plan, and do homework to be effective. Especially in my line of work. 

SHANE

Retrieval. 

EMMA

RECLAIMERS all have their perks, mine just happens to be lifting things or money off of people. 

SHANE

So what are we taking back? 

EMMA

It's a necklace. 

SHANE

Come again? 

EMMA

I didn't stutter. 

SHANE 

Why would the SYSTEM care about a Necklace? 

EMMA

Because it's important to someone, someone who feels the need to have it back, and someone the system agrees should have it. Think of the SYSTEM as checks and balances. For every good action or deed we do, we do something seemingly reprehensible. 

SHANE

Like killing vampires on a bounty? 

EMMA

Precisely. Think of this as a good deed to your last foray into the world of RECLAIMING. 

SHANE 

Alright, I guess I'll buy it for now. 

EMMA

 Anyways, this necklace is a ruby and turquoise encrusted heart shaped pendant that is called the "LUMINA". Whoever it belonged to at this point doesn't matter, but who has it, that definitely does. 

SHANE

So who's the lucky, or unlucky person to have stolen it? 

EMMA

Meet, JERRICK FINCH. 

EMMA slides a PICTURE over a well dressed business type man surrounded by UNDEAD SECURITY. 

SHANE

He looks lovely. 

EMMA

The LUMINA is with him, presumably In a safe in his well fortified mansion on the skirts of the city. 

SHANE

Any bio on this guy? 

EMMA

JERRICK FINCH is an entrepreneur, but mostly he's a scumbag, slaver. 

SHANE

A slaver? 

EMMA

I did some digging into his extracurricular activities, and it seems he holds a lot of these gala ball-like parties at his house. A lot of women attend, a lot don't come back. No one can prove anything, until they are found dead some weeks later. But nothing leads back to him. All the girls are completely drained of blood once they're found as well. 

SHANE

So he holds these parties, takes women, and then sells them to vampires, whom I guess are just buying to feast on something cute and fresh? 

EMMA

Sounds like it to me. He pockets heavy cash, and uses it to cover his lavish living, seeing how his status within the SYSTEM is pretty low. 

SHANE

So how do we get this guy? 

EMMA

He's holding a party in two days. We're going to crash it. 

SHANE 

Now that...sounds dangerous. 

EMMA

Relax, I can get close, all I need you there for is to back me up in case things don't go well, but whatever you do, do not act upon JERRICK, we can't touch this guy, we're only there to find the necklace. 

SHANE

Why can't we take this guy down? 

EMMA

It's not our job too. 

SHANE

What if we don't have a choice? 

EMMA

If we don't have a choice we don't have a choice, but trust me, it's a shit process to go through should we do it. A lot of paperwork, a lot of interviews and a lot of bad press for us. 

SHANE

Alright so don't touch him. 

EMMA

We're retrieving, that's it new meat. 

SHANE

Fine by me. 

EMMA 

Now, as long as we can locate or confirm that the necklace is in the house, I can get it, but if it's not, we get the hell out of there, and we'll figure something else out. 

SHANE

Two days? 

EMMA

Two days. 

SHANE 

Looks like you got this pretty well thought out. Nice. 

EMMA 

Oh honey, This is what I do. 

The TWO tap beers as they share a drink. 

EXT. AUSTIN'S APARTMENT 

ANTHONY knocks a few more times before AUSTIN answers semi nude, ANTHONY looking at him confused as AUSTIN was sweating all over. 

AUSTIN 

What do you want?!

ANTHONY

I interrupt you from something? 

AUSTIN 

Yeah, fucking. And I'm on the clock here, so wrap this up. 

ANTHONY

EMMA is with SHANE on a mission...

AUSTIN

Yes, and she'll be sleeping with him more and likely like she has done with every male we know. It's inevitable but she will move past him like she does everyone else. 

ANTHONY

I just can't stop thinking about it...

AUSTIN 

Oh my god, I can't do this with you right now, talk to CHARLES. 

ANTHONY

AUSTIN, come on...

AUSTIN 

I have a piece of fine ass in there that needs a good long dicking, so bye, TONY. 

AUSTIN shuts the door as ANTHONY looks perplexed. 

EXT. THE TAVERN 

EMMA locks the doors as SHANE looks about the street, EMMA coming over towards him as she grabs his arm. 

EMMA

I guess you can walk me home tonight. 

SHANE

Don't you have a car? 

EMMA

I don't always drive it. 

SHANE

Look, EMMA, there's...a reputation I know about. 

EMMA

Yeah, and? 

SHANE

I don't know, it's just...

EMMA

You telling me your going to turn down sex...with me? 

SHANE

I never said that, I just...

EMMA

Look, I'm not this obvious, when I'm ready to do it, I take it, don't worry new meat, it'll happen soon enough. 

SHANE

EMMA

Now walk me home fool. 

EMMA slaps the back of his head and hooks her arm around his as SHANE shakes his head and lets her lead the way. 

EXT. CHARLES'S APARTMENT 

CHARLES opens the door as ANTHONY stands there, CHARLES looking about as he steps out and closes his door. 

CHARLES

TONY, everything alright?

ANTHONY

You put SHANE with EMMA? 

CHARLES

I figured EMMA would be sinking her claws into him sooner rather than later, might as well kill two birds with one stone. 

ANTHONY

Come on, CHARLES. 

CHARLES

ANTHONY, I understand that you have very strong feelings for EMMA, she is a sweet, magnificent young woman, but you being a bitch is not of concern for me. 

ANTHONY

I just...I like him, CHARLES. I like the new guy, I like SHANE. He's a good guy, and I know...that if and when that happens...I'll...

CHARLES

What? You and AUSTIN are fine? You and EDDIE were fine, hell EMMA slept with JASPER for years, and you two were best friends. 

ANTHONY

I...

CHARLES

I wouldn't read much into it. Trust me. 

ANTHONY

I guess so. 

CHARLES 

ANTHONY, When it's over. You'll be relieved. 

ANTHONY 

How do you know? 

CHARLES

Just do. Now do you mind, I have a guest. 

ANTHONY

Oh, yeah, sorry boss. Thanks. 

CHARLES

Don't be a stranger, ANTHONY. 

CHARLES heads back inside as ANTHONY turns and leaves, CHARLES taking a look at him as he heads back inside. 

EXT. FINCH MANSION 

The MANSION is lit up with NEON LIGHTS leading to it as LIMOS and EXPENSIVE CARS are pulling in and out along the long and wide entrance towards the MANSION as MEN and WOMEN of all walks of life are finely dressed as GUARDS are placed all over the premises. 

A LIMO appears and EMMA steps out a few moments later, EMMA in a slinky black dress, dolled out with fine jewelry as SHANE appears around the LIMO in a fine tux. 

EMMA smirks as she holds her hand out, SHANE taking her arm as they watch the LIMO they came in head off as more LIMOS were waiting to pull up. 

EMMA

You look dashing. 

SHANE

I look like a cheap whore, you know this tux cost me almost all the money I had. 

EMMA

I'll reimburse you if this all goes well, just stay quiet and make me look worth talking to. 

SHANE

That shouldn't be hard. 

EMMA smiles as some men eye her as SHANE looks about and takes notice of the guard positions as they come to the entrance way, the BOUNCER looking EMMA over as he lets her by, SHANE and the BOUNCER eying each other as the TWO make it in. 

INT. FINCH MANSION 

EMMA and SHANE marvel at the sheer size of the MANSION as a SPIRAL STAIRCASE HIGHLIGHTS the BALLROOM like foyer of the MANSION as at least a hundred socialites were socializing about as EMMA studies around as SHANE gawks at the sheer power and wealth that was on display. 

SHANE

Oh man we're so out of place...

EMMA

You maybe..there he is. 

SHANE turns to where EMMA was looking at as he notices JERRICK FINCH chatting it up with some VAMPIRES and what looks like a GHOUL. 

SHANE

Looks like him. 

EMMA

I'll go work my magic, you mosey about, see if you hear anything about the LUMINA. 

SHANE

And you? 

EMMA

I'm going to peak FINCH'S interest. 

SHANE

I'm sure you will. 

SHANE goes about as EMMA struts her way towards FINCH who catches his eye as he nudges some of his men who watch her come towards them. 

SHANE goes towards the BUFFET table and salivates at the amount of food, SHANE looking to his right as an OLDER UNDEAD WOMAN dressed in a white gown with pearls stares at him quizzically. 

SHANE

Shrimp huh? 

The UNDEAD OLDER WOMAN moves away from SHANE as SHANE grabs a few shrimp and quickly scoffs it down as he begins mingling into the crowd. 

EMMA arrives by FINCH, grabbing a champagne glass off of a tray from a waiter as FINCH comes over towards her. 

JERRICK 

I don't believe I've had the pleasure. JERRICK FINCH, this is my establishment. 

EMMA

EMMA LAIN, and I am quite aware of who you are and the residence that I am attending, Mr. FINCH. 

JERRICK 

JERRICK will suffice. And I like your moxie. 

EMMA

They all do. 

JERRICK 

You should think about joining me and my friends in the VIP a little later, I understand such a request right away is quite presumptuous but...

EMMA

If I didn't think I was going to already be in that VIP room, I wouldn't have even shown up. Thanks for the champagne though, I'll see you soon. 

EMMA takes a drink and heads back towards SHANE and the crowd, JERRICK watching her strut as he smiles and goes back towards his men . 

SHANE tries to obviously eavesdrop on a conversation, which causes the men to quickly move away from him as EMMA comes over and grabs him by the arm. 

EMMA

Get anything? 

SHANE

No, these rich yuppies are surprisingly tight lipped about certain things. 

EMMA

I see you've been enjoying the buffet. 

SHANE

They have shrimp. 

EMMA

Well why you were stuffing your face, I got myself invited into the VIP room. 

SHANE

You think the NECKLACE is there? 

EMMA

I think that would be a good guess. While I'm in there, you're going to check the upstairs, and see what you can find there.

SHANE 

Sure thing, gonna hit the bathroom first. 

EMMA

Okay. 

SHANE heads off as EMMA looks about as she grins. 

INT. BATHROOM 

SHANE looks about as he enters the bathroom, SHANE washing his hands as he hears the door open, SHANE turning as EMMA pushes him against the sink, pressing her lips against his as SHANE is thrown off as EMMA sticks her hand into his pants, SHANE pulling away from her kiss. 

SHANE

What the fuck...

EMMA

This is happening...

SHANE

I can see that. 

EMMA bites at SHANE'S LOWER LIP, SHANE wincing as she unbuckles his pants and pushes them down as SHANE and EMMA look over as the BATHROOM DOOR opens and a MAN comes in, but after a few moments turns and walks out as EMMA pushes SHANE onto the COUNTER, EMMA hiking her dress up as she crawls on top of SHANE and lowers her hips down on his waist, the two wincing as she moans and pleasure as she begins grinding against SHANE, SHANE grabbing her hips as they begin kissing vigorously. 

EXT. BATHROOM 

The MAN who had walked in was now surrounded by a group of MEN who were all listening to the noises made by the two. 

INT. BATHROOM 

EMMA lowers her dress back down after an undisclosed amount of time, SHANE was still sitting on the floor, pants around his ankles as EMMA looks in the mirror and fixes her hair. 

SHANE

Well that...that was interesting. 

EMMA

Haha you could say that. 

SHANE

I thought it would've been more proper...a bed, some candles, glass dildos. 

EMMA

You're funny. 

SHANE

You got some experience. 

EMMA

So I've been told. 

SHANE

Sorry It didn't last longer...

EMMA

It lasted a lot longer in this kind of setting than I thought it would. I give you an A minus new meat.

EMMA pinches SHANE'S FACE before she struts out casually past the crowd of men, The MEN trying to act as if they weren't spying as SHANE comes out a few moments later to applause, SHANE smirking as he watches EMMA shake her head as she doesn't even look back as she waltzes right into the back room of the VIP area. 

INT. NIKKI'S CAR

NIKKI is scoping out an area as she watches some UNDEAD load a shipment of WEAPONS into a TRAILER as NIKKI turns as he door quickly opens, NIKKI aiming her PISTOL as ANTHONY throws his arms up quickly as NIKKI shakes her head frustrated as she tucks it away as ANTHONY looks about. 

ANTHONY

Hey, NIKKI. 

NIKKI

What the fuck are you doing here, TONY? 

ANTHONY

Nothing, just thought you needed some backup...

NIKKI

I completely do not need your backup, in fact, I don't understand how or why you found me in the first place? Were you seen? 

ANTHONY

NIKKI

ANTHONY

I swear, no one saw me. 

NIKKI

Goddamnit. Look if this is about EMMA, I want no part of it. 

ANTHONY

NIKKI and ANTHONY look at her DRIVER SIDE WINDOW as a HENCHMEN holds a GUN on them, NIKKI looking at ANTHONY slowly with an angered look as ANTHONY shrugs. 

ANTHONY

So my grace isn't what it used to be...

NIKKI

We're so not cool right now...

UNDEAD HENCHMEN

Get out now!

NIKKI opens the door and keeps her hands up as she gets out as ANTHONY gets out as well. 

UNDEAD HENCHMEN

(To ANTHONY)

Put your hands on the fuckin' hood!

ANTHONY does but as the HENCHMEN aims his GUN at ANTHONY to make him comply, NIKKI quickly disarms him, smacking the RIFLE across his face before kicking him in the groin a few times before she draws a BLADE and stabs the HENCHMEN in the chin, driving the blade upwards into his skull, wounding him instantly. 

NIKKI pulls the BLADE out as she tosses ANTHONY the RIFLE as she comes over and smacks him across his face. 

NIKKI

You're helping me now, since now I have to take a different route in handling this. 

ANTHONY

Ow. 

NIKKI

Shut up, there's more to come. 

ANTHONY

Dammit. 

NIKKI

Let's go. 

NIKKI heads off towards the WAREHOUSE near the TRAILER as ANTHONY was following close behind. 

INT. FINCH'S VIP ROOM 

JERRICK FINCH watches EMMA close as other BEAUTIFUL WOMEN are canoodling with the other guests as EMMA was eying about coyly, searching for anything as she looks about but stops as JERRICK comes over. 

JERRICK 

Now once again, you've made another part of my house worth being in. 

EMMA

I seem to have that affect it seems. 

JERRICK

Yes, you certainly do. 

EMMA smirks as JERRICK flashes an even better smile. 

INT. UPSTAIRS 

SHANE carefully looks about before he enters upstairs, searching for signs of SECURITY as he checks a few rooms for a moment before he notices a SINGLE room where the door was wide open. 

SHANE looks about curiously before he walks towards it, stepping in as he looks about. 

INT. GIRL'S ROOM. 

SHANE looks about as the ROOM was decorated for a small child, SHANE looking about before he notices a SMALL CHILD sitting on her bed, toys all over her blankets as she was reading. 

SHANE looks a bit confused as she looks up at him. 

GIRL 

Hello. 

SHANE

Uh...Hi. 

GIRL 

You don't like the party? 

SHANE looks around as he comes over, sitting at the foot of the bed as he shrugs. 

SHANE 

No, the party is fine, I just wanted to get away for a moment. What about you, why aren't you at the party? 

GIRL 

Mr. FINCH says I can't go, because I'm not old enough. 

SHANE

Is MR. FINCH your dad? 

GIRL 

No...not my real dad. I mean, he's my daddy here. 

SHANE

I didn't mean to impose. 

GIRL

SHANE looks befuddled as he gets ready to leave but she holds out a picture to him. 

GIRL 

What do you think of this? 

SHANE smiles as he takes it and studies it, but notices something on the little girl's drawing of herself. 

SHANE

That's a nice looking Necklace you have on in the picture. 

GIRL 

Yeah, My Dad gave this to me a while ago. 

The GIRL shows SHANE the LUMINA around her neck as SHANE looks a bit surprised as she holds out a CRAYON. 

GIRL

Here draw with me. 

SHANE

Uh, okay, sure. 

SHANE smiles as he takes the CRAYON but as he does a GUARD grabs him and slams a BATON across his face. 

INT. FINCH'S VIP ROOM 

JERRICK and EMMA are laughing as a GUARD rushes in, whispering quickly into JERRICK'S ear as JERRICK perks up and nods as EMMA was showing off her jewelry to some other FEMALES as JERRICK brings her closer. 

JERRICK

This evening has been quite the affair, has it not? 

EMMA

I don't know, I can think of a few things that could help spruce it up a little more. 

EMMA runs a finger down his chest as JERRICK smiles. 

JERRICK

Perhaps you will. 

EMMA'S SMILE fades away as she feels something press against her stomach. EMMA looked down as JERRICK had a pistol to her. 

JERRICK 

But it seems to me that you've been here to keep my attention while your ugly friend was trying to take something from my daughter...

EMMA

Your daughter...?

JERRICK 

If you don't want me to make a prime example of you in front of all of these people, I suggest you come with me. 

EMMA

I think I'll take my chances...

JERRICK

You try anything and not only is there a real fun possibility of you not making it out of here alive, but your friend will also get two very lovely blades stabbed into his eyes. And we wouldn't want that would we? 

EMMA sneers at him as JERRICK motions her towards a back room where a few GUARDS wait as they open the door, JERRICK and EMMA heading inside as The GUARDS shut the door. 

INT. HOLDING ROOM 

SHANE is tied to a chair, THREE GUARD'S working him over as they trade off punches, hitting at least a dozen shots before laying off a bit as SHANE spits out some blood, SHANE reeling as he leans his head back. 

SHANE

You guys are a real piece of work, hitting a tied up man. 

GUARD

Shut him the fuck up. 

A GUARD hits him seven more times with vicious rights, SHANE reeling as his head leans to the side, SHANE laughing as spit and blood drool out of his mouth as he continues laughing as he lifts his head up, spitting the glob of blood onto one of the NEARBY GUARDS, who savagely begins pounding on SHANE. 

INT. BACK ROOM 

EMMA has her arms bound behind a chair as JERRICK comes in, the LUMINA in his hand as there was also a LARGE TORTURE BLADE in the other, EMMA not reacting as JERRICK waves at her to catch her attention as he smirks. 

JERRICK 

I gotta hand it to you, RECLAIMERS such as you are a dime a dozen, especially when you happen to get as close as you did. 

EMMA

I'm used to flattery, but never from dickhead slavers. 

JERRICK

Heard about that huh? Yeah, I've got some potential buyers for you, Saucy, slender, and full of feist. A VAMPIRE'S perfect victim. 

EMMA

I'm honored. 

JERRICK

So this huh?

JERRICK swings the LUMINA in front of EMMA, EMMA eying it as JERRICK nods and looks at it before tucking it away in his pocket. 

JERRICK

As you know we can't make life, we're dead. We don't have children, but children do die, and they do need to be taken care of. 

EMMA

Lemme guess. You needed to have an image to help your political and social career, while playing up the merit that you're some family man, so you adopted yourself a child as a means to help cover your own ass, course you keep her off the records because you don't want your enemies to know about her, and use her against you, expose you.

JERRICK

EMMA looks up at him with terrified eyes as he smiles at her. 

INT. GENO'S OFFICE 

GENO ADRINO, A FRINGE UNDEAD ARMS DEALER, sits eating an apple as NIKKI kicks the door inside to his office, GENO looking up casually as NIKKI wipes some blood splatter from her face. 

GENO

NIKKI, Always a pleasure, not sure blood suits your skin. 

NIKKI

GENO...

NIKKI pops GENO across the MOUTH with her PISTOL, GENO screaming as he grabs his mouth as some of his teeth are knocked out as GENO looks confused as NIKKI comes over and puts the PISTOL to his head. 

NIKKI

I was waiting to come in here nicely without the need for all this, but I need some information, lie to me GENO, And I'll blow your goddamn eyes out!

GENO

What do you want to know you fuckin' crazy bitch! I've always been good to you!

NIKKI 

I need you to give up some other ARMS TRAFFICKERS or else I have to take you down, and I enjoy doing business with you GENO, so give me a name for someone to be taken down. 

GENO

Get some pressure on that, if you go to the ER they can probably fully heal it within six hours, if you wanna avoid, tourniquet it and it should fix up in about 28 hours, give or take how much weight you put on it.

NIKKI walks out of the office without a response as ANTHONY was on the ground, wrestling with a HENCHMEN as NIKKI pops the GUARD three times in the back of the head, ANTHONY watching as the GUARD rolls off of him in pain as ANTHONY stands, his lip bloodied as his right cheek was slightly swollen. 

ANTHONY

 I guess we got what we needed? 

NIKKI

I did, I don't think you will. 

ANTHONY

Yeah...I guess not. 

NIKKI

Let's get out of here before GENO decides to get vengeful. 

The TWO hurry out as ANTHONY limps along right behind her. 

INT. HOLDING ROOM 

SHANE is beaten into a ragged pulp as the THREE GUARDS look him over as they check his vitals. 

GUARD

Damn, if you could beat someone to death, this would be about as close as you could get. 

GUARD 2

What does the boss want us to do with him? 

GUARD 

Kill him, but not just yet, he wants the girl sold first before we do that. 

GUARD 3

I'm a cut him out of the chair, I wanna tie him up by his hands and beat on his body a little. 

GUARD

Yeah, okay. 

GUARD 3 cuts the bindings to SHANE'S HAND and as she does, SHANE jumps up and slams his head into GUARD 3'S CHIN, GUARD 2 running at him but SHANE side steps him and pulls a PISTOL from GUARD 2'S belt, shooting him in the leg twice before he shoots the first GUARD in the head, GUARD 3 grabbing SHANE from behind but as SHANE rocks forward and slams his head back before he rolls forward and out of his hold, SHANE turning onto his back as he fires twice, hitting GUARD 3 in his eyes, SHANE turning his head as the SOUL LIGHT FLASHES in a blinding light as GUARD 3 EXPLODES into nothingness. 

SHANE stands, spitting out blood as he watches the first GUARD that he shot in the head start to stir, SHANE firing two up close shots into his eyes, watching him explode as GUARD 2 holds his arm up as SHANE shuffles over towards him. 

GUARD 2

Please...

SHANE 

Where is he keeping her? 

GUARD 2

I...

SHANE

Where is he keeping her!?

GUARD 2

His private chambers...third door on the right...

SHANE

Congratulations. That information let's you live. 

GUARD 2

SHANE

No. 

SHANE fires three times, hitting GUARD 2 and not even looking at his explosion into nothingness. 

INT. BACK ROOM 

SHANE kicks the door in as JERRICK holds EMMA up, KNIFE to her LEFT EYE as SHANE is breathing heavily as he was covered in blood and bruises. 

JERRICK 

I'll kill the bitch right now if you come any closer...

EMMA

SHANE, put the gun down, I've got this okay...

SHANE

Humor me...

EMMA

SHANE!

JERRICK 

Shut up!

EMMA shakes her head at SHANE as SHANE holds the PISTOL up at JERRICK'S HEAD, JERRICK doing his best to hide behind EMMA as EMMA reaches subtly back, pulling the LUMINA out from JERRICK'S POCKET as EMMA quickly tucks it away. 

EMMA

SHANE, I need you to lower the gun and let me handle this so we can get out of here. 

JERRICK

Shut the fuck up!

EMMA stomps her heel down on JERRICK'S FOOT before she headbutts her head back, hitting JERRICK in the nose as EMMA turns and knees JERRICK in the groin before punching him across the face, watching him fall as SHANE lowers the PISTOL, EMMA breathing a sigh of relief as she holds the LUMINA up and smiles at SHANE who tries to force one himself. 

EMMA

Well...that could have gone...

JERRICK jumps up, screaming, knife raised towards EMMA but as EMMA goes to counter SHANE coldly aims up and fires twice, hitting JERRICK in both eyes, EMMA closing her eyes as JERRICK SCREAMS and then EXPLODES into NOTHINGNESS, EMMA opening her eyes in shock as the particles of JERRICK float down around them, EMMA turning and looking at SHANE with horror as SHANE was scowling before he notices EMMA looking towards his right, SHANE looking over as the LITTLE GIRL was staring at him with tears in her eyes, SHANE seeming to come back down to reality as he looks at the gun and drops it, holding his arm as EMMA comes over and takes his arm around her. 

EMMA

Come on, we need to get out of here...

SHANE looks at the LITTLE GIRL as she comes over to where her dad had once been, SHANE quickly looking away as EMMA helps him out. 

SOME TIME LATER 

INT. THE TAVERN 

EMMA fixes SHANE a drink as SHANE holds a beer bottle to his head, his face a bit healed up as EMMA pops the top of a beer and downs most of it. 

EMMA

You killed FINCH. 

SHANE

I am aware of that, I was there. 

EMMA

You weren't supposed to do that, that was clearly something I said we were not supposed to do. 

SHANE

He was going to kill you. 

EMMA

No he wasn't, I could've handled him, just like I did when I got the LUMINA. 

SHANE

Sure. 

EMMA

Look, I appreciate your concern, but...we screwed the pooch on this. We screwed up bad. 

SHANE

He was going to hurt you. 

EMMA

Maybe, but we were supposed to take that risk.

SHANE

I'd do it again. 

EMMA

Jesus Christ, you just don't get it do you? 

SHANE

I guess not. 

EMMA

I gotta go turn this in...

EMMA holds the LUMINA up as she then tucks it away, tying her hair back as she walks around the BAR. 

EMMA

I called CHARLES...He'll be here in a few. I'm sorry, SHANE. I had too. 

SHANE

It's alright. 

EMMA

SHANE...

SHANE

Yeah? 

EMMA kisses his cheek as she pats his shoulder. 

EMMA

Wrong or not. Thank you. 

SHANE

Anytime. 

EMMA pats him and heads out of the TAVERN as SHANE pulls the DRINK closer to him and chugs it down as he winces and puts the bottle back up to his bruise. 

INT. NIKKI'S CAR

NIKKI pulls up to ANTHONY'S APARTMENT COMPLEX as she looks at ANTHONY who was staring out the window in a daze. 

NIKKI huffs as ANTHONY looks at her, clearly upset with himself as NIKKI shakes her head. 

NIKKI

I don't know what you're wanting me to say about EMMA, ANTHONY. I can't tell you whether she's worth this or not. 

ANTHONY

I know she is. 

NIKKI

Then why are you doing this?

ANTHONY

I don't know. I know her and SHANE will just be a fling, like all her digressions, but...

NIKKI

TONY, you're heart is in the right place, but your fuckin' brain dead sometimes. That's the best advice you're going to get out of me about this subject for a while now. 

ANTHONY

NIKKI

INT. THE TAVERN 

CHARLES comes in and briskly walks over and takes a seat beside SHANE who was now pouring his own drinks, SHANE holding the bottle up towards CHARLES but CHARLES waves it off as SHANE pours another glassful. 

CHARLES

care to explain what happened? 

SHANE

We got caught, I shot some people. Saved EMMA. That's simple. 

CHARLES

It's never that simple. 

SHANE 

It's my story. 

CHARLES 

Do you understand what happens when an UNEVENTFUL goes outside the scope of the parameters set within the mission file? 

SHANE

No. 

CHARLES

They get audited. They go to the SYSTEM building, they make you fill out paperwork, and tests, and more paperwork. Then you sit down with your OVERSEER. And I'm telling you, she's a ball buster. She find's one part of your story to not add up, and she'll push your file through to the upper ranks of the SYSTEM, where they will determine a series of punishments to be implored. Some of them are singular, pertaining to just you, often, it effects the persons that went on the mission, and if it's a really nice fuck up, everyone in the crew get's hit. Hard. 

SHANE

I guess I'm getting some early punishment? 

CHARLES

You're being naive. You think you're the only one who's going to get punished for this? EMMA'S gonna suffer some wrath because it was her case, and FINCH, that guy was connected to all sorts of big names and faces in the FRINGE...If you wanted to start off on the right side of this group...you fucked that up real good. 

SHANE

He was attacking EMMA. 

CHARLES

Clip him, graze him, shoot him in the head, blow his kneecaps out, you could of immobilized him in a dozen of different ways, but you didn't...you went kill first...and now...there's a good chance that my crew...my crew may be disbanded...or worst, black listed. We are proud of being RECLAIMERS, we stick by each other. You have yet to learn the true value of that...

SHANE

I did what I did to save her life!

CHARLES

No you didn't! You were blood thirsty...She told me about the shots that happened before...the one's I'm assuming you used to kill your captors before finding her...and the look in your eyes...EMMA knows that look, we've all seen it. Your mind was already made up, you were killing FINCH. 

SHANE

CHARLES

You better get your answers straight. Your audit is tomorrow. And SHANE, FINCH was a bad guy. No doubt about that. But he had a daughter. And do you know what happened to her?

SHANE looks mortified as CHARLES pats him on the back and stands. 

CHARLES

You need to wrap up here, you got a long day tomorrow. 

CHARLES heads out as SHANE shakes as he begins to break down. 

EXT. THE TAVERN 

CHARLES comes up to a BLACK LINCOLN as the WINDOW lowers and COLBY sticks his head out. 

COLBY

First Mission, First Audit. Sounds like the old days. 

CHARLES

I made it sound a little worse than it probably will be, but he needs to understand the implications. 

COLBY

What did you tell him about the girl? 

CHARLES

VAMPIRES got her. 

COLBY

Harsh. 

CHARLES

Maybe. 

CHARLES looks in and sees the LITTLE GIRL drawing in the back, CHARLES smiling as COLBY looks at him. 

CHARLES

Is she going to be okay? 

COLBY

I think she knew her "dad" was not a great man. We'll find her a home, don't worry. 

CHARLES nods as he looks at the LITTLE GIRL who looks up at him and smiles, CHARLES waving at her as he pats the top of the LINCOLN and steps back as the car takes off, CHARLES nodding as he whistles and then vanishes. 

INT. ANTHONY'S APARTMENT

SHANE walks in, his wounds much better as he comes over, teary eyed and beaten as he sits down on the couch, SHANE looking over as ANTHONY was sitting nearly the exact same way, staring vacantly forward as he too looked worse for wear. 

ANTHONY

How did it go...?

SHANE

Terrible...

ANTHONY eyes SHANE as SHANE stares forward. 

ANTHONY

Getting audited already? 

SHANE

Yeah. 

ANTHONY

Nice. 

SHANE

I let a little girl get killed tonight...

ANTHONY

It happens...I screwed up NIKKI'S mission, made her have to kill a whole mess of people she didn't have too. 

SHANE

Why'd you do that? 

ANTHONY

Felt like it...

SHANE

Yeah. 

ANTHONY

How's EMMA? 

SHANE

Better than me. 

ANTHONY

Haha. 

SHANE looks at ANTHONY as ANTHONY has a smile on his face, SHANE not saying anything as the two go silent, nothing else needing to be said.
