1 Prologue

"I hate the rain."

Atlas Fox hated the rain, of course he did, there was no reason for him to like it because when it rained something bad soon follows. He would get hurt, forget something important, once his girlfriend broke up with him on a rainy new years. But just that was not enough to make him hate the rain.

Atlas' parents met when his dad was beginning to study to become a paleontologist. Two years after they met, they got married and had their first child, Atlas. Soon after Atlas turned six his dad got properly set up in an excellent job, it was a job he loved and he did very well in it. His mom decided to go back to school and got accepted into med school. They had a peaceful life and when Atlas was nine his parents had twins, they were named Apollo and Artemis, a boy and a girl, his mom decided to take a 2-year break to take care of the two of them. Going back to school she managed to study for another year before having to stop again.

Atlas' dad was an alcoholic, but he wasn't always like that? Atlas was only 12 and his younger siblings were barely three when his dad was framed and fired from his job for trying to steal parts of a rare dinosaur called an Elaphrosaurus. Of course, it was not him, but the people who framed him were too well prepared. The day after his dad's dog was killed in an accident. His parents decided to get that dog after they dated for a year and it has been with their family ever since then. After losing his job, the death of his dog was a heavy blow he was not expecting. Yet it rained for two days straight on those days.

That alone was not enough to push his dad to break, he loved his family and continued working trying to work hard for them. Atlas had an uncle, one of his favorite people to live on this earth. He was always over, and he was his dad's only brother, so they were remarkably close. Atlas' uncle always treated him well and even took him out and taught him wilderness survival skills. For the last five years his uncle had taught him different foraging skills, he taught him how to start a fire and fire safety, traps, snares, slingshots, how to use a knife and even clean fish and small wild game. His uncle was even the one who helped take care of their family when his family was struggling due to his father losing his job.

Atlas' uncle took care of his family and even helped his mother finish the last three years of med school. Although his dad was still struggling to find a job, they were still happy. His uncle even started teaching the twins wilderness survival skills once they got old enough and Atlas' finally learnt how to shoot a gun. These peaceful times continued for two more years until a terrible accident happened. His uncle was shot, it was so unexpected they lived in Winnipeg. Although it was one of the more dangerous cities in Canada, it still was not a common sight where they lived. This was such a sudden event that when they learnt of the news it sent his dad down a depressing spiral. Atlas' uncle had always been such a good person and had done so much for their family, but it hit his dad the worst after all they were brothers. Unable to cope his dad started drinking heavily, he became an alcoholic. He never stopped being their father, he still cared for them and his wife and never laid a hand on them, but he stopped trying. He didn't try to find a job or push harder to prove his innocence in his case. That day it rained, like an ominous sign it rained harder than ever.

Atlas' mom took care of them and her husband. She tried therapy to help with her husband's depression and drinking problems, but he was broken. She kept taking care of her family, working in the medical field she had no problem doing so. Atlas' helped his siblings, mother and tried to help his dad cope with the death of his brother. He took the position of their uncle to teach the twins what he learnt as he tried to fill the void his uncle had left behind. This lasted for a year and his dad did start getting better he started applying for work again and pushing on his civil case again.

Atlas' turned 18 this year and things started looking much better for his family. Their dad had completely gotten over his drinking addiction and he finally made progress with his civil case. After all these years they found evidence to prove his innocence. After many more months of work he finally won the case and even got reinstated into his old job. That was the start for a chain of good fortune for Atlas' family. Shortly after his dad got his job back his mother was once again pregnant, this was such a joyous occasion they threw one of their biggest baby showers to date. The newborn was a beautiful girl who was loved by the whole family, her name was Callista.

This peace persisted for five more years until it rained, it was heavy rain the heaviest one yet and it brought with it a bad omen.
