1 New Talent

The morning sun hid behind a thick layer of fog, causing the city to be enveloped in mist. A large tower loomed above the walls, piercing into the sky in a seemingly endless fashion.

A child lay in a small alleyway, sleeping soundly as he shivered from the morning chill. A puppy lay on his chest, licking his cheek from time to time.

The boy groaned as he awoke, stretching his arms, accidentally dropping the puppy that was sleeping in his arms. The puppy let out a surprised bark, looking up at the boy angrily and nipping at his arm.

The boy laughed, his voice cutting through the morning air as he rubbed the puppy's head. He smiled apologetically down at her, his eyes showing a hint of warmth. The puppy snorted and turned its head away from the boy playfully, causing him to sigh.

"Okay! I'm sorry alright?"

The puppy looked up at him expectantly, wagging her tail. He smiled, patting her head as he scooped it up into his arms.

The boy carried the puppy out of the alleyway, his eyes filled with cold determination as he walked towards the tall tower that loomed in the distance.

"Halt."

As he drew closer to the tower, the entrance came into view. Two heavily armored guards stood at the entrance, looking down at the boy.

"State name and age."

"Raki, 14 years old."

"Any previous tower climbs?"

"No."

"You may enter."

The guards lowered their spears, allowing him to enter.

As soon as he stepped into the tower, his hand was guided to a stone stele in front of him. As his palm landed on it, a string of words appeared in front of him.

Knowledge flooded Raki's brain as the words disappeared into the air.
