1 The Impact

20/2/2021,

It was a Sunday and today Alex had to leave to attend the funeral of his best friend's father's funeral.

He and Ceaser, his best friend, had been together since they learnt walking.

His father was cool father and a fun uncle, unfortunately he had passed away recently.

He put on a black suit and went to Ceaser's home early.

When he reached their home he met with Ceaser in his room,

"Ceaser I know it has been hard on you but you gotta push through for your sister and mother."

"I understand man but you don't know, how it feels, to suddenly lose some so close to you, without even knowing who did it or why?"

"You have to trust in the police, they will find the person who shot him."

Ceaser's father had been found dead in his office with a bullet hole in his chest.

Alex felt really sad for Ceaser but couldn't even imagine the pain Ceaser was going through.

Ceaser's mother came after hearing their talk,

"Thank you, Alex for coming early Ceaser really needed someone he could open himself to."

"No need aunt, we have been friends as long as I remember, this is the least I can do."

"I feel assured that Ceaser will overcome this with a friend like you."

She left after saying this.

Alex could see that she had cried a lot as there were still marks on her cheeks, she was just maintaining a calm look to provide support to her son and daughter.

In the evening,

Alex, Ceaser and Ashley (Ceaser's sister) boarded a car driven by Ceaser's mother to go to the funeral.

A lot of relatives and friends had arrived for the funeral, some of them were new faces to Ceaser's family, who said they were his father's colleagues.

"I will take care of Ashley and mother, so, rest in peace father." murmured Ceaser during the burial.

After the burial an old man approached Ceaser,

"I know it's been hard on you, but do not worry they will pay for what they did to your father."

"Thank you, but who might you be, sir?"

"Ah! I forgot to introduce myself, you can call me Mr. Shawn, I worked with your father. Here call this number if you need help with some trouble." Said Mr. Shawn as he handed a business card to Ceaser.

After which Mr. Shawn promptly left.

On the card was his name, a phone number and the line 'The sphinx never forgets.'

"Do you know him?" asked Alex as he approached Ceaser,

"And what with card, it doesn't even state what he does?"

"Don't know "replied Ceaser.

After the short conversation they began heading towards home in their car, when suddenly a loud rumble echoed through the land.

"What the hell was that?" asked Ceaser's mother as she stopped the car.

"Look there!" said Ashley as she pointed towards a huge cluster of darkness far into the front.

Everybody in the car was already looking at it by the time she said that.

They got out of the car, when the ball of darkness started taking shape of a gigantic human.

The figure, void of any features, looked like a pitch black shadow.

"RAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!" It roared , the intensity of the shout making people miles away come to their knees and hold their head.

The figure started moving slowly, but even that slow movement caused destruction that couldn't be associated with sucha movement.

"Get in the car!!" shouted Alex after barely shaking of the dizziness he felt after the roar.

He helped Ceaser's mother into the car, while Ceaser, who came to his senses a few seconds after Alex, took his unconscious sister into the car.

"Turn around, get as far away as we can get from that thing!" said Alex.

Ceaser's mother after hearing that quickly turned the car away from that thing , and crushed the gas pedal.

"We need to get to a hospital, Ashley isn't waking up!" cried Ceaser

"What!!??" shouted Ceaser's mother as she increased the already high speed of the car.

Alex took out his phone to call his parents but found that it's battery had died.

"Aunt give me your phone, I need to tell my parents to not come here" said Alex.

As fate would have it, Alex's parents were away from the country on a business trip and couldn't come on time for the funeral due to a flight delay.

"Its best for them to stay as far away as possible from here" murmured Alex as he called his parents.

"Hello, father, yes its me, now listen do not come here, please I don't know what is happening but do not come here!!" said Alex before the call was cut due to bad connection.

A few minutes later they reached the hospital in a nearby city.

When they entered they saw that a lot of people were in similar condition to Ashley.

Alex quickly searched the news for what was happening, while Ceaser and his mother admitted Ashley.

Finally he saw a related broadcast,

"About 15 minutes ago a gigantic mass of darkness in a humanoid shape appeared in the middle of city K.

The immediate roar from the being resulted in most being dizzy for a few minutes, while thousands in the vicinity were knocked unconscious.

What that thing is and how it appeared in the middle of a populated city still remains a mystery.

Now we move to our live reporter... " said the female news anchor.

"Here we see the military preparing to attack the being that appeared in City K and destroyed a major portion of it.

The military has formed a perimeter around the city to prevent civilian entry and aid the refugees that are coming out of City K.

Currently it is hard to estimate the loss of lives and property.

The military is refusing to answer any questions related to the being and have prohibited the entry of any news helicopter into city K and nearby air space"

After listening up to here Alex left the main lobby to see if Ashley had woken up or not.

Meanwhile, in a quiet room, somewhere,

"Who permitted the entry of soldiers into site-17 in my absence??!!" shouted an old man.

"S- Sir- calm dow-"replied his secretary but before she could complete her answer she was cut off by the old man.

"Forget about telling me, bring whoever was responsible right NOW!!!"
