1 The Cry That Connects Worlds

In the depth of the night, a few figures can barely be seen by the untrained eye fleeing near a canyon. The terrain is rocky and is not easily broken by normal cultivators.

*BOOM* *BOOM*

A stern old man quickly comes into view that is wearing an unfashionable bandanna with rainbow-esque glitter forcibly glued to it. More importantly, on his back is a casket containing a 1 year old baby boy.

"Shit! That rendezvous was a lie! Protect the young master!", said the stern old man.

At that point everyone suddenly was overcome with a sinking feeling. After all, even their intelligence force in the main continent was compromised. With the enemy investing so much into this scheme, they were probably done for.

The two other people who were with the stern old man gave a solemn nod and soon started to fight their pursuers even though they were severely outnumbered.

By normal people, this would be seen as suicide. However, they are cultivators. Cultivators, which are a realm above their pursuers no less.

*Shik!* *Shik!*

With horrifying sounds coming from the decapitation of the enemy cultivators, the two cultivators slaughtered a path through the pursuers; embedding fear deep in their hearts.

*Humph*

However, before the two cultivators could finish off the enemies' forces, a cold snort could be heard.

A cultivator with an evil aura was slowly approaching. As he got closer you could clearly tell that his aura came mostly from his eyes that seemed like a dark abyss that could suck someones' soul in.

"Cultivator Nightfall!", exclaimed the stern man with rage. "How dare you side with them! Do you want to suffer eternal damnation!?"

"Fern. You should know more than anyone that they're the same as us, I'm disappointed in you." Nightfall said while shaking his head slightly.

"No matter how similar they are to us, they will always be different! Do you understand, Nightfall!?" Fern shouted seemingly enraged by Nightfall.

"Enough. We both know that your trying to stall for time. Let's end this." Nightfall said as he decapitated the two cultivators on Fern's side with a casual swipe.

Fern let out an enraged shout full of fighting spirit, seemingly wanting to battle it out with Nightfall until there is only one man standing.

Nightfall starts to get serious as he know that Fern is one of the most elite cultivators from the main continent.

Fern suddenly builds up strength in his legs, causing the tough stone below him to crack.

Nightfalls' muscles start to constrict rapidly, ready to deliver a punch to the seemingly mad Fern.

"RAAAAAAAA!" Fern releases his war cry to pump himself up.

Fern charges! Toward the canyon!

Nightfall watches dumbfoundedly at the scene in front of him. 'Going to that canyon is suicide even for someone on our level. What is he trying to do? Unless.... hehe'

Devil Soul Canyon is known to be a mysterious place by the majority of cultivators, but most importantly is that it has an eerie connection with the family Fern swore to protect.

At this moment Fern is almost at the Canyon. What approaches his vision is a deep abyss that seems to suck someone in body and soul.

Fern musters his courage and jumps in the Canyon. 'I hope your right young miss'

AWOOOOOOOOO

At the moment from within the Canyon, a lonely roar resounded through the area surrounding the Canyon.

WAAAAAA

All of a sudden, a gentle cry responded.

"HAHA! I have finally found one!" Tom gazed admiringly at the fruit in his hand. Ignoring the body of a fat man at his feet.

"I shall rise up and conquer the world MUHAHA- eh?

A portal that was slowly opening unbeknown to Tom. A portal that radiated a piercing coldness as well as a certain expectation. Like the jaws of a beast salivating over a piece of meat that it's about to swallow.

Tom started to sweat as he looked at the slowly expanded portal. The portal, seemingly knowing that it's being watched stopped expanding and it almost seemed like the portal was staring at Tom. Tom started to sweat even harder.

"Hey bro....portal? I meant no offense I'll just go my way with this fruit and you can go expand that way k?" Tom immediately dashes off as a cloud of dust picks up behind him. The ground cracked under his feet as he immediately made use of his full speed to get out of there, crossing 10 meters every second.

The portal seemingly contemplates for a few moments then seems to have made up its mind as an evil glint flashed through its 'eyes'. The portal immediately released a strong suction force that slowly pulled Tom back to the portal, and inside it.

Tom starts to sweat bullets.

"Nonoonononononno. Elder bro. Brobro. Broski! I can tell you are very interested in this fruit in my hand!"

The portal gives a 'gesture' as if to say go on.

"You handsome elegant hu-er portal entranced me from the moment I saw you. That's why I stopped and stared at you for so long! You have evoked my admiration! With that considered, I shall give you this fruit as our meeting/parting gift, cya!"

'Ugh. This hurts my heart and gives me a headache, but I have to make it out with my poor little life to have another chance at a fruit.' Tom slowly places down the fruit near the portal. He then backs away slowly while keeping an eye on the portal. The portal made a 'chest-patting' gesture as if to say, "leave it to me" or "no worries". Tom then makes a mad dash for it while zigzagging, feeling like it may help him.

The portal curiously examines the fruit. Seemingly scratching its head over what it's supposed to be. It 'shrugs' and 'smiles' creepily the evil glint in its 'eye' is reignited.

The portal slowly sucks away the fruit. At the sight of this Tom relaxes slightly and smiles.

The portal slowly turns toward Tom and seemingly 'laughing', starts to suck him up.

"YOU PROMISED BROSKI!!!" Tom shouted in terror and disbelief as he was sucked into the portal that was slowly closing, with Toms' body being broken apart in the void only leaving a dark blue light to be taken away further.

???? ???? ?????????- Devil Soul Canyon

Everyone could only dumbfoundedly stare, Fern included, while a bird carried a dark blue light in one claw and fruit in the other, quickly approached them and took the baby. Fern just ended up jumping into the pit with a confused but relieved expression because the bird was so fast that even someone of his level could only see it for a moment.

Nightfall just stood there silently and thought, 'how terrifying'. The gears in his brain slowly turn. 'hehe...that works too though.' Sadly, the men under Nightfall weren't so quick on the uptake.

"Do we chase them, boss?" The men left looked fearfully at the bird that just left.

Nightfall shook his head. "No, we return."

The landscape flew by rapidly. While on the bird's back the baby seemed to assimilate the soul into its body as it proceeded to faint with exhaustion. This lead to the bird starting to fade at a rapid pace. The bird, as if aware of its fate, let out a piercing cry and started to land, impaling itself inside a beast located in a cave.

The night slowly passed on the mountain range with no animal or human being any wiser of what disaster was brought to their location.

Tom slowly woke up to the piercing light shining through the holes on the cave wall above him. 'Huh? Where am I? I thought I died? I guess that portal wasn't so bad after all. I guess I better get up'

'HUH????!' "WHHAAA????!"
