CHAPTER 9

I received a letter from a mail man that gave it to the head of the servants to hand it over to me. I wondered who would drop a mail for me in the early hours of the day especially after waking up from the stress of the day before. I leaned against a wall infront of the mansion at the compound, tearing the envelope which the letter was inside. I slipped out the letter from the torn envelope as I unfolded the letter. I wasn't educated but the mercy of the lords was faithful to me not knowing how but I was able to read any letter that comes my way.

"Dear Julienne,

Give my dearest Damian a good treat today because he has done something worth blowing kisses for. He found out about your mother's condition and made his way to your home yesterday. In conclusion, your mother was treated because of him and he made those rogues promise him that Mrs Robinson wouldn't hear any of it. Such a gentleman and please take good care of him for me.

Yours Faithfully,

Rachel...

I read out the letter aloud and I could notice some trace of tears lying under my eyelid. I felt them with the tip of my fingers letting out a light smile because I felt so foolish crying for Just a letter. I left there heading back inside still pondering on Rachel's words written on the letter. Damian's act of goodness really touched me and I felt so sorry and clumsy for my attitude for the other day. He really needs my apology and I was looking for a better situation to thank him and also apologize.

I freshened up firstly before heading up the stairs for the day's punishment. I neatly folded my cornrows and looked good in appearance because I believed that neatness goes a long way for someone.

★★Infront of Damian's bedroom★★

I stood before the door of his bedroom holding a tray of neatly arranged fruits and a teapot standing beside the plate of fruits. I knocked on his door twice but there was no response from him. I turned the hand of the door knob gently backward, as the door opened ajar before me. I walked into the bedroom and looked at my left where Damian's bed was located. He was still fast asleep on his bed and it wasn't his fault at all because one can't be sleeping in such a comfortable bed and won't remain lazy on bed. The bourgeoisie were very lucky and sometimes I wished i was in the same position. Maybe if father didn't abandon me after my birth I might have been living a better life with mother currently. I kept the tray on top of his bed table about leaving the room but I heard my name from that direction. I turned backwards, seeing his eyes slightly opened looking at me.

"Good morning! I thought you were sleeping when I came in? Anyway, I brought your hot tea and some sliced fruits for you." I said to him in a low tone while he stole some glances at the tray lying ontop of the bed table.

"When did your duty include serving me my tea? I can't remember assigning you to do any of that for me." He asked me feeling very surprised while I stood facing the ground.

I shook my head at my nonchalant behavior and I actually did that on purpose. It was my way of showing my gratitude for the favor he made to my mother. He stood up from his bed, reaching out his hand for the teapot and the empty tea cup. He poured in some tea from the teapot into the teacup. I prayed in my heart that the tea I made for him taste nice like the one the chefs makes for him. He had a sip and I noticed the brightening on his face after the first sip. He gulped them all in the last sip while I beamed a smile.

"Hmm...did the chefs assist you in preparing this tea?" He questioned me while I shook my head in refusal.

"So in conclusion you're trying to compliment my hardwork right?" I questioned him while he smirked at me.

"Compliment you over a tea? Everyone can make that if they put their minds into learning it. It's nice actually because of my love for teas not because it's coming from you." Damian said to me while I shook my head feeling embarrassed at his nasty behavior once again.

I stood at a corner waiting for him to finish up the fruits before him atleast that was the nicest thing I would do to appreciate his kindness. Damian was actually a lad at heart and I couldn't understand the reason he was pull those matured looks that makes him appear as a weird personality. This punishment has brought us close to each other and I could understand him better now even though he was always ready to pull up a fight with me. I noticed that his bedroom was always looking organized and had this particular nice scent and I really marked him good for that. Most of the burgoises I had come across were disorganized and gets sugar-coated because of their wealth but Damian wasn't in anyway like that and it was something to be proud of.

"You're really acting weird today Julienne, first of, you served me tea early in the morning for the first time and now watching me take them. This is suspicious from my own perspective." Damian said to me while I carried the tray speechlessly.

"Actually I...I...I want to thank you for everything you've done for my family. I got to know about how you took my mum to a hospital yesterday to get treated. I'm also sorry too for my rudeness the other day." I apologized to him in a low tone avoiding an eye to eye contact with him.

Damian stood up from his bed approaching me and I was actually feeling a bit uncomfortable because he didn't say a word but rather counting several steps toward me. As he took a step forward, I took a step backwards. We kept distancing from each other until my back landed at a wall where I could no longer run away any longer. He was infront of me feeling like some superhero. Maybe I should have taken back my apology because it would make him feel like he had won now.

"I should be the one apologizing to you for everything my family had done to yours. We might be from different classes according to the society but none of that matters to me. I believe everyone deserves a certain respect atleast for the sake of humanity. You really owe me nothing Julienne and I mean it when I say you owe me nothing." Damian said to me with his cold bass voice that put across a chill into my soul.

I looked into his eyes still lost in those words I heard him spew out to me. I didn't realize when the tray slipped off from my hand and the sound of the teapot, empty plate and teacup got back my lost attention. I shook my head getting back to my senses. I bent down immediately packing them back into the tray. Damian tried helping me but I stopped him from doing so. He was doing too much now and my heart was playing a fast trick on me right now. He needs to stop or else I would forget my status in the society and feel overboard in this factual fantasy and deceits.

"I'm sorry, I will take my leave now and yeah! Thanks again for everything master Damian." I rapped my speech in a haste, leaving the room immediately.

I ran downstairs as my cheeks wouldn't stop heating up from the too much fantasies. My heart kept fluctuating and my head was already messed up from too much of my imaginations and the tensions I felt in Damian's room. I bumped into Uriel on my way to the kitchen to return back the used dishes. She could notice my reddish cheeks and wondered why.

"Julienne your cheeks... they're red. Did any of the male servants profess his love to you?" She teased me while I felt so ashamed by her words. I cupped my cheeks feeling so cheeky.

"No, not at all I'm fine. I will get going now and thank you for pointing out on my blushed cheeks.," I replied her faking up a smile as a means to escape from her suspicions.
