"I can't believe he dumped me!"

A loud voice came from my left where a group of popular girls were gossiping about something. It was our last class and the teacher made us do some self study. I turned my attention from my book and looked at them.

There was a total of five girls, three of them were from my pack and two of them from the neighbouring pack. Rachel, Meghan and Iris were from my pack. Ida and Julia were from the other pack.

This school was located inside the town which bordered two packs. Thats why in this school there were both werewolves and humans, werewolves from both packs. That's also the reason why there's always a fight between werewolves. But the Alphas of both packs were good allies.

"So what? It's not like it is the first time he did that. And why do you always run after him. He is not even your mate," Megan said as she rolled her eyes and then started to pick at her nails.

"Who cares about being mates!? I want to be his Luna. Thats what I want!" Rachel said furiously, her cheeks were all red from anger.

"What if he finds his mate before you reconcile with him?" this time it was Ida who said that in almost an amusing tone.

At Ida's words, Rachel huffed and a smirk formed on her lips. "Even if he finds his mate, there is no way he'll spend his entire life with her. He will probably reject her after sleeping around with her. It's his hobby."

The girls slowly nodded at her words as she further added, "And if he doesn't reject her then I will kill that bitch myself." Her anger again seemed to rise up but she controlled it. The girls gasped at her words, along with me and looked around them to check if someone was listening or not. I quickly turned my head away from them and fixed my eyes on the book.

I cursed at myself for eavesdropping and tried not to hear their conversation but they were too loud to ignore. My heart was pounding inside my chest. She was thinking of killing our future Luna, William's mate. Was she serious?

"You shouldn't say such things so recklessly. You are thinking about killing your future Luna. What if someone heard you? Its a crime punishable by death."

Julia said in a low tone but high enough for me to listen. Rachel only huffed and didn't say anything.

"Anyways, what are you guys going to wear at Jonathan's party tonight?" said Iris as she tried to change the topic. All the girls then started to chat about their dresses and makeup.

But again, Rachel butted in and said, "Thats it! Tonight I am going to sleep with him and in the morning everything will be alright."

The girls then started to ask about their love life and how he was in bed. I cringed at that and averted my attention from them. But Rachel's threat was still worrying me. She might have just said it in the fit of anger and nothing else. The bell startled me as it rang, indicating the end of the school day. I packed my bag and left.

After fifteen minute walk I was at the pack house. Everyone was in hurry, carrying boxes here and there. Tonight was Jonathan's eighteenth birthday. He was the Beta's son who apparently would take his father's position as Beta when William would take his position as the Alpha.

I spotted Lucy as she gave orders to the organizers which were mostly the pack members. I went to her and she smiled when she saw me.

"Do you need any help?" I asked but she shook her head saying no.

"Everything is almost done," she said, "You should go and rest before the party. I have left a dress for you to wear."

I groaned and shook my head, "I don't want to go to the party. You know I'll just stand in a corner doing nothing."

She clicked her tongue and pushed me towards the staircase as she said in her motherly tone, "I don't wanna hear any excuses. Just do what you did on William's birthday party, okay?"

I gave her a look and she sighed. I thought she'd would give up but then she said, "You can atleast come and complement on my choice of the menu."

She just had use food in this. I sighed and nodded my head, "Fine."

She gave me a bright smile and led me to the staircase as she said, "Who knows? You might be Jonathan's mate."

She eyed me carefully for a second but tried not to show it as if she was trying to see my reaction. I rolled my eyes at her and said with a chuckle, "Even if I am we wouldn't know since I'm not eighteen. And I don't think so we'll be mates."

"Why not? There might be a possibility, you know. You both have beta blood in you afterall."

"Yes, true. But my dad wasn't a Beta, remember?"

We stopped at the foot of the staircase when Lucy turned to me and said, "I hope he finds his mate tonight. So then I can cross one more name off my list."

I looked at her like she was crazy.

She gave me a smile and ushered me up the stairs, "It's nothing. Rest well and be on time."

With that she was gone and I made my way to my room. Just as she ordered, I tried to rest and surprisingly, I fell asleep which was very unsual to happen in the evening.

I woke up as my phone was continuously ringing. I opened one eye and checked the caller id.

Lucy.

Why was she calling in the middle of the night. I checked the time on my phone. It was 11:39.

Oh shit. The party!

I jolted up in my bed and gulped as I answered the call. Lucy's voice came brusting through the phone speaker.

"Where are you? I told you to be on time! Come on! Hurry up and come downstairs as soon as possible!"

She sounded angry and I said in a tiny voice, "I'll be there as soon as possible."

There was a pause and then she hung up. I exhaled and quickly got out of bed. I hurriedly took a shower and slipped on the dress which Lucy had chosen for me. It was knee length skirt. The top fitted me perfectly. The skirt was drak grey and the top was a lighter shade of grey. It had half sleeves which reached to my elbows.

I loved this dress. It was not that revealing and made me comfortable wearing it. Lucy always knew what kind of things I liked. I then applied some makeup, just some eyeliner and a lipgloss. Then I slipped on my black heels, I was so going to regret wearing these.

I checked the time. I was so late!

I ran downstairs, being very careful with my heels because I wasn't used to wearing them. When I reached the hall where the party was being held, I saw no one there and no music.

Did I come so late that the party was already over?

But then I heard lots of cheering coming from the other room. I went there and the room was crowded, everyone was looking at a girl who was then staring at a guy. His back was facing me so I couldn't recognize who he was.

I slipped inside the room and stood close the wall which was near the door. The girl looked as if she was in another world. Her body was here but here mind was somewhere else. I tried to peek through the crowd to know who was that guy she was looking at.

Then she whispered out, "Mate."

The crowd cheered as the guy engulfed the girl in a hug and spun her around. Thats when I got a glimpse of him. It was Jonathan. He found his mate. A smile appeared on my lips as I saw them kissing and the pure love and delight and happiness on their faces.

I smiled as I leaned back against the wall. Then I felt someone's eyes on me. I turned to my left and saw William staring at me. He was only a few feet away, a red cup was in his hand and was leaning against the wall. It looked like he's been there for some time.

My smile faltered as I saw him staring at me. I felt uncomfortable under his gaze as I wasn't use to this. But then I looked into his grey eyes and they were so beautiful that I couldn't look away. I didn't know how long I stared in those grey orbs.

A sudden growl from Jonathan brought me back to earth and I blinked at him, averting my gaze away. But he was still staring at me with a foreign look on his face. Was he angry for some reason or what? Was he waiting for me to bow my head and show respect?

I thought of leaving and I bowed my head in submission to my Alpha but I found him frowning.

Did I do something wrong?

I couldn't help but feel scared right now so I did the only thing that came to my mind.

I ran.

I ran away from my Alpha.
