47 Kidnapped

Lukas and Wu Shen were currently sitting in the library, discussing how they would proceed with things from then on.

"Tell your parents that you'll be staying together for a club activity. Do parents even care that much?"

Lukas sat opposite Wu Shen, casually flipping through the pages of an aged book.

"They usually do, you know? Anyway, it's not really much of a problem. As long as we study, it should be fine. Most of the boys are left home alone 'cause their parents go to work in the Capital."

Wu Shen sighed at his new leader's lack of concern for the things he considered to be 'trifle'.

"I see. Is there any other problem we need to address for now?"

"Hmm... Well, we'll need to move in all of our luggage and stuff... Also... It took a long time getting here. How are we going to get to school?"

"Walk."

Lukas snapped the book shut and stared intensely into Wu Shen's eyes, as if daring him to refute what he had said.

"Excuse me?"

Wu Shen's squinted eyes widened allowing the soft rays of light to shine upon him, decorating his eyes with speckles of almond.

"Wake up early, eat early, get out of the house early. Easy."

Lukas fiddled with the seams of his shirt, indifferent to the bewilderment building in the other's heart.

Wu Shen's eyes bulged.

'He's crazy.'

...

They really needed a vehicle. A truck, a car, even a bike would do. Walking all the way up and down from town was seriously tiring.

Currently, the good school-children were trudging up to town early in the morning. Lukas, wanting to exercise for a bit, accompanied them along with a rather clingy Xiaozhi.

When Wu Shen had informed the others, their faces blanched in horror. Just the thought of walking up and down for thirty minutes made their legs tremble uncontrollably. Though their hearts felt aggravation, they could not voice their pains and just silently obeyed their new boss's orders. Life was hard for insignificant little followers like them.

They separated ways once they arrived in town and Xiaozhi followed Lukas on his errands.

Along the way, Xiaozhi persistently tried to get a response from the indifferent boy in her grasp.

"Why won't you talk to me? Are you ignoring me? Hello~"

It was all to no avail.

Lukas reigned in his temper. She was older than him. No matter how annoying she was becoming, he had to maintain some respect. And so, he could only keep quiet.

"Ouch!"

Xiaozhi had tripped over a small rock on the pavement and aggravated her injured foot. Lukas glanced back but kept on moving. He was secretly pleased that the weight on his arm had lifted.

'Freedom'

"Don't you care? I could have fallen, you know?"

No answer.

"You're so cold-hearted. How could you do this to me?!"

Her usually velvety voice had turned up in volume and carried far. At this point, all attention had been turned on the duo. Lukas had always hated others looking at him as if he was a free walking exhibition.

He'd had enough of this. He couldn't keep it in any longer. He snapped.

"Do you cling onto every man you see like this?"

She froze. Her expression frosty, Xiaozhi raised her hand and slapped his face. Tears threatened to fall as she cried,

"You're just like everybody else! I hate you!"

She shoved him hard. Being unprepared from an attack from his own side, Lukas couldn't stop himself from crashing into a lamppost.

Her eyes revealed guilt but before she could apologise, a group of men pointed at her from across the street and shouted at her. Soon dust was being kicked up as a result of their heavy feet stampeding on the ground as they ran towards her.

Xiaozhi flinched and attempted to run away but it was too late.

The men were fast.

One of the men picked her up and slung her over his shoulder. Xiaozhi clawed at him with her broken nails and bit into his flesh. Her weak attempts at stopping them only angered him and he punched her, knocking her out.

A car pulled up next them not soon after and Xiaozhi was thrown in. The car zoomed off into the distance.

Lukas who had watched this scenario unfolding right in front of his eyes couldn't believe it. Was this the so-called karma? For hitting him for no apparent reason, she was now getting what she deserved?

Of course not.

He remembered how he first encountered her

That doll-like appearance, those empty eyes...

"Sh*t."

Despite the constant ringing in his ears, he ran after them.
