39 Chapter 38 - It was a rollercoaster

Austin silently watched as the group of men ran away from him. After they were out of sight he turned his attention to the bystanders who had decided to stop and watch the turmoil. Austin's eyes remained cold, his pitch-black eyes were deep like a never-ending void, it made the bystanders feel goosebumps rise at their skin causing them to quickly look away; afraid that they would be next on the receiving end of his vicious glare.

'Too scary!' they all thought, it was like their minds were linked for a moment.

The people decided to quickly scurry away in case the man decided to pick a fight with them. Seeing the crowd disperse, Austin turned around and meticulously checked if Amara had so much as a scratch. They were lucky that her soft, tender skin remained unscathed otherwise he would have dragged them back here and ripped them apart. Just remembering how close he was to touching her made him wonder if he was too lenient on them and if he should have broken a bone or two.

Austin took a deep breath. He pushed down his rising anger and asked Amara "Did they hurt you?" his voice came out hoarse. Amara didn't say a word and silently looked at Austin. Her eyes were penetrating. It looked as if she was trying to figure something out.

At that moment, Amara felt strange. The disgust she felt when that man nearly put his hand on her made her want to rip his arm out of its socket which was strange because never in her life had she felt this way because of a mere touch. She had certainly done more than that before but it was the first time she has reacted like this.

She knew that even if that man had served himself on a silver platter she would rather choose to starve than eat a dirty thing. Dirty? She called something she used to crave dirty? Her peculiar thoughts had her wondering what's going on with her? Is she getting sick? Has she stayed on land for too long that its beginning to affect her?

"Amara?"

His voice put her chaotic thoughts to a stop. After hearing his voice, her eyebrows that were furrowed began to relax.

"No, they didn't touch me…" she says softly.

Seeing her relax, Austin felt relieved. Her expression a little while ago didn't look so good, it seemed that she thinking deeply about something. Her expression looked conflicted that it made him worried. She might not know it but sometimes her emotions are clearly written on her face which he sometimes found overwhelmingly cute.

Amara abruptly took hold of his hand and placed it on her cheek. His hand was large enough to cover half of her face. She loved the feel of the rough callouses on his hands. It wasn't long until the nasty feeling from a moment ago disappeared. Austin was a little taken aback at the sudden action but that soon turned into a feeling of helplessness. He was getting increasingly used to her eccentric actions and now didn't find this odd at all. He no longer hesitated to pull her closer to him and placed a light kiss on her head.

Unbeknownst to both of them, a young girl who stood within the crowd couldn't help but get her camera out and take a photo of them. They had underestimated the beauty of the image they created just by standing next to each other. It was like watching two people step out of a painting making many people squeal at them.

'These two are breathtakingly stunning!' The artist in her couldn't help but want to share this discovery with the world. Soon after she posted that photo online and with just one click, thousands of people who loved beautiful things like her was able to view it and their reaction was no less than hers. It wasn't long until the photo became trending online.

Remembering what they came here for, Austin asked her if she wanted to go on the rides. Amara moved her eyes away from him and looked at the many rides that filled the area. Even from the ground, they could still hear the screams that seemed to be coming from them, but instead of feeling fear, she felt a sense of thrill so her naturally curious nature made it so that she couldn't refuse.

"I've never been to an amusement park before," Austin distantly looked at the rides, his eyes looked as if he was remembering something from long ago.

"Why?" She asked.

"My father didn't allow me to muck around. He thought that if I had time to play then I should have used that time to study or train," a memory from long ago began to resurface in his mind. He was back to his younger self looking out of the window watching the kids his age play while he sat there by himself with a book in his hand.

There was one event that he remembers vividly even to this day. It was one of the many things he could never forgive his father for. One of the tutors that used to teach him pitied him for being the only child that didn't play games. He had children of his own very close to his age, so he knew how easily lonely they felt so one day, he let him skip one of his lessons to play with the other kids, his father eventually found out and the next day he received a new teacher. Austin never saw him again but he was at an age where he understood the cruelty of his father.

From that day on, he closed that window and never dared to leave again. For years he was plagued with the guilt of what happened so when he finally challenged his father and became alpha, he sought out that teachers family and begged for forgiveness.

Austin clenched his jaw. His eyes were filled with a mixture of emotions. His figure seemed so pitiful and lonely that Amara felt a tinge of pain in her heart for him.

Like a child, she patted his back and comforted him, "It's ok, I'll play with you so don't be sad okay?"

Austin's heart warmed, his desolate expression melted into that of a tender smile and he couldn't help but once again kiss her on her cheek.

"It's alright, it's all in the past now,"

Not expecting this Amara's mind blanked. After blinking a couple of times, her cheeks burned red. Fortunately, Austin didn't notice this and pulled her towards one of the rides. He didn't want to turn their date into something sad so he quickly tried to make the atmosphere light and cheerful again. It was only a couple moments later did Austin realise the that the ride he was pulling them to was a rollercoaster ride and it was the biggest one in the whole park. He looked at the contraption which had many twists and turns and gulped 'is this a good idea?'.

It was funny to see an alpha who could fearlessly run through a battlefield with bullets being shot at him in all directions, be scared of a mere ride. Just as he was about to tell Amara that they should go on a different one, they had already reached the front of the line. Before he could even say anything, the worker had already led them to their seat and strapped them in. Knowing that it was too late to leave, Austin sat anxiously beside Amara. Contrary to his mood, Amara excited held onto the bar in front of them.

Once the worker finished buckling them up he said a quick 'have a fun ride' and walked away to his station. A minute later, the cart began to move forward. As they began to climb higher and higher the people on the ground looked smaller and smaller until they were mere dots.

Austin rigidly sat down not daring to move an inch from his seat. His entire body was tense. When they finally reached the top, Austin looked down before instantly regretting his decision. The slope was steep, it was a straight fall down with many twists afterwards.

'No no no' He tightly gripped the straps for dear life. When he felt the cart lean forward he closed his eyes and held his breath in anticipation for the sudden drop. One, two, three seconds pass but still nothing. He reluctantly opened his eyes to see what was going on when…

'Whoosh!'

Large amounts of wind slammed against his body at once. His eyes remained wide open but even with his superior senses, his vision was nothing but a blur. Screams surrounded him from all sides but due to his prideful nature, he did not let out a peep. The speed in which they were moving in was exceedingly fast and yet the five minutes the ride was supposed to last felt like an eternity.

When the ride had finally reached the end of the coarse the cart came to a halting stop, everyone couldn't help but gush at how exhilarating it was and enthusiastically talked to their friends about it. One by one the people stepped out of the cart in high spirits but a single individual remained in his seat. His face was slightly pale; his posture straight as a ruler; and his hand fiercely gripping the bar in front of him showing his protruding veins.

It wasn't that Austin did not want to move but that he was unable to. He couldn't feel his legs making it difficult for him to stand up. It was only a couple of seconds later that he unsteadily stepped out of the cart. Afraid that he would topple over by himself, he leaned on Amara for support. Inwardly, he felt a little embarrassed for having shown her such an embarrassing side of him but Amara found it strangely cute. He resembled a big, fluffy bear and which she wanted nothing to do but pat.
