What did I do wrong

She started running when she saw him and immediately hid behind the nearest tree.

He passed by the huge tree without noticing the girl who had hidden herself behind it. When she saw he was gone, she came out of her hideout and went home.

"Why are you now coming home?", A woman asked, her voice was loud and filled with anger.

"I...sorry... I went to see a few friends", Calina lowered her head, her whole body trembling out of fear.

"You met exactly who? Did I send you to buy vegetables or I sent you to chat with your friends,no supper for you tonight! You'll sleep in the basement tonight as your punishment!", The woman threw the dirty rag in her hands onto Calina and walked away in a huff.

"Why? Why? Why are you always mistreating me? What did I do wrong?", Calina yelled although she was still scared, she forgot to control her temper this time. She had been tolerating this maltreatment for some time but it was really getting out of hand this time.

"B*tch! You've really got some guts huh? How dare you talk back at me?", The woman raises her hand and slaped Calina very hard leaving fingerprints on her face.

Calina held her cheeks which were hurting badly and tears flowed down her cheeks, "I did nothing wrong! I just spoke to a few friends! I hate you!"

"Shut up! Daughter of a sl*t! Who do you think you are? Your mother is long dead and gone, she won't come back to save you! It's only I and your father left!"

Filled with sadness, Calina run out of the house in tears and went to sit under a huge oak tree, she always sat there whenever she was feeling down.

"You should not have left mother!...You abandoned me in this world to be alone and suffer so much, I really miss you so much!"

A little boy glanced at her for a while before he stepped out of the house and run to her side, "Sister you should stop crying! It's ruining your beauty!", he forced on a smile and wiped her tears away.

"Caleb...what...what are you doing here? You should go back in before your mother finds you here with me, she'll get angry at you!", Calina tried to push him away.

"It doesn't matter, even if she gets angry she's not going to do anything to me!", Caleb smiled.

"Oh Caleb...you... you're one of the best brothers in the world!", Calina hugged him tightly and kissed his cheeks.

"Caleb! What the hell are you doing here with this beggar? Mom's going to get angry!", An arrogant voice was heard not too far away.

"Stop calling sis Calina a beggar! She's also a part of this family!", Caleb stood up angrily, he hated how his big sister Lucy treated Calina.

"Caleb... I know you're not happy with what's going on however you should really get inside now!"

"No! I'm not going on in without you!", Caleb stormed his feet and folded his arms, he looked determined.

"You...fine! Let's go inside then!", Calina sighed and gave in.

Calina hands was held by Caleb as he led her inside the house, Lucy rolled her eyes then chuckled.

'So dramatic!'

.....

Calina had lived with her mother Morgana and her father Stephen but when she was five years old her mother had died of food poisoning, her father had already had an affair before her mother died and had a daughter with her stepmother Mey so she had a stepsister named Lucy.

Her father then married Mey immediately after her mom died and since he was a business man so he would often travel, Mey would take this chance to maltreat her and her stepsister Lucy would just laugh at her but Mey's youngest child, Caleb treated her like a real sister.

Calina Monalisa was her full name.

Calina was the same age as Lucy but Lucy was a few months older than her.

Mey made sure all dirty work was done by Calina whenever her father was absent.

Calina and Lucy were currently fourteen years old.

Calina entered the basement after sending Caleb to his room, the little guy had insisted on staying with her in the basement and it had taken a lot of effort to lure him back to his room.

She knelt on the floor and looked at the sky through the tiny window then sighed.
