(Momo POV)
My wife just finished her... speech? I don't even wish to call it that if I'm being totally honest.
It was nothing short of a diss track for the entirety of hero society where she dug up all the dirt she could and threw it all into the public's eye.
Hell, it was a complete funeral service for those on the list! I skimmed through all of the information listed, and the level of detail was shocking, to say the least. I held no delusion as to what would happen to those with the more severe crimes listed when they arrived in jail.
As a hero, even as corrupt and dirty you may be, the last place you want to end up is in jail with the same people you put away for crimes you committed yourself. They were, with no doubt in my mind, in for some… rough times as soon as they hit the cells.
I nearly fainted in shock at the sheer number of heroes that consistently broke the law. Weren't they meant to be the better people? The people to be the shining pillar of justice in times of need?
It was an eye-opening experience.
Sure, I have been told about the dirty side of society by my own parents since a young age. Manipulation and how to control certain people were regular subjects taught to me as the future head of the company. People were inherently greedy and would take advantage of any weakness I would have; my parents made sure to drill that into me.
I knew the world wasn't completely black and white, but the shade of gray was much darker than I could have possibly imagined.
The number three hero is a damn hitman, for god's sake! I knew he was manipulated by the HPSC to some degree, but I didn't think they would turn Hawks into their personal attack dog.
Is attack pigeon a better title? Doesn't matter, he's assassinated anyone from political opponents to other heroes!
I know that heroes can kill if the situation arises, I'm not stupid enough to think everyone can be redeemed or captured alive. But, the clause that allows said heroes to take lives has no loopholes to be exploited that allows one to kill an innocent civilian.
I should know, Sakuya spent an entire week trying to find one after a classmate in middle school spilled her chocolate milk. She then tried to convince me, and herself, that they were no longer an 'innocent civilian' because touching her chocolate milk is a war crime.
It took a lot of kisses and cuddles to stop her from wiping the poor unsuspecting boy from existence that day.
Looking down at my necklace, a single thought crossed my mind,
'Is it better to rewind the world to before this speech happened?'
I, ultimately, decided not to. I didn't have a great enough control over the stone to comfortably use it on a worldwide scale yet. I wanted to look into the future, but I didn't do so.
What was awaiting me, and the earth? I didn't know, but I've already trusted Sakuya with my future. She vowed to protect the people during our wedding, as a hero, along with our relationship. If this is what she needed to do to protect them? Who am I to judge?
I have to have faith in my wife and her choices.
I do have an inkling as to why she was doing all of this, and it only dawned upon me when she brought up the police multiple times. They were always presented in a good light too.
To everyone else, it would seem to just be there to compare two sources of the law enforcement system, and wouldn't dig any deeper than just assuming it was to give some perspective on the matter at hand.
Others may just claim she did this all for the sake of chaos, and to watch the world burn.
Neither of these two groups was wrong; there was just more to it. Sakuya isn't someone to do something without an end goal in mind, no matter how carefree and random her actions may seem to outsiders.
The T-rex named Nuggies she rode on in? Probably to entice paleontologists and declare to the world that extinct species could be brought back to life. Why bother with all of this? It's entertainment and likely a source of future revenue.
The appearance of Kunou? She must have noticed that Eri wanted a pet or a sibling. She chose the most suitable pet for her: it has soft cuddly tails, is overly affectionate, has a long lifespan so she doesn't have to worry about rewind activating, and is small enough for her to cuddle when sleeping in her room.
She was indeed getting bored as of late, that much was clear as day to me. Being born as a nigh-omnipotent being would lead to anyone eventually getting bored with everyday events.
She keeps this boredom a closely kept secret under her mask of chaos and carelessness, only letting others see it when needed. However, not even boredom would lead her to cause chaos for no good reason.
What she most likely wanted to do was get into the entirety of Japan's police force's good graces, more specifically Kenji's. They were already on good terms due to his sister working at the Izayoi mansion, likely hearing plenty of stories about each other from Pestonya-san.
They also meet up now and again to discuss various plans to implement in the future. Meetings I decided to attend once before being utterly confused and deciding to retire for the night. With the entire police force being fans of my wife, and in turn the IzaYao corporation? The deals would go smoother in future negotiations.
So many blueprints, designs, and tech contracts were on the table, the police force only needed the funding to satisfy my wife's demands. She could give them the tech for free, but it wasn't in her nature to do so.
There were talks about: an entire AI system called the Sibyl System, guns that could stun and kill depending on the target named dominators, grenades with various applications, drones, high tech bikes that could scale walls, amongst various other things.
It was the wet dream of many police officers, and something that I'm sure will come to fruition soon enough. The government was definitely about to relocate some funds towards the police, which I have no doubts about.
Those funds will allow the police force to gain even greater standing in society, maybe even taking over the HPSC's role in society in the far future. I do not think it will take over in its entirety, though, as being a hero is cooler in the minds of children so it will always have a market. It just may not be as large as it previously was.
The speech was to both demerit the HPSC, whilst simultaneously propping up the police department as a better alternative. I'm sure there were plenty of other factors I am missing out on, but that was enough reasoning for me to accept why Sakuya did such a thing.
That wasn't even counting our parent's contract with the HPSC regarding interviews which will roll in the money for a long time to come.
I do believe everything she does is for the future of either our family or society as a whole. As a wise man once said, family should be the top priority; and I totally agree with that statement.
Does she have the right to choose what's best for society, or manipulate people's fate to such a degree? Probably not, but nobody else does either. I will, however, always believe in her, and her choices, because I trust her more than everyone else.
It was still a stressful experience, though. Everyone's eyes were on me the entire time, with only the fanatics of my wife's cult watching her on stage. Our relationship wasn't exactly a secret, I guess they wanted to see how I would react to it all.
I did freak out for a few seconds, before returning to my deadpan expression. It did worry Toga, though, who could see the sheer disbelief present within my eyes. However, she didn't confront me about it in detail, which I am more than grateful about.
The downside about the entire speech fiasco was that the events were delayed, and still are in fact. They are trying to keep the journalists contained, and the heroes that attended who broke the law contained in a separate area.
So, I'm just sitting down on the faux grass waiting for the first event to start. I have so many cool tools, because I refuse to call them toys as Sakuya does, I want to show off.
There was the time stone, which was implanted into a necklace, that I was told to only use for desperate situations. I didn't want the knowledge of me, or Sakuya, being able to make the infinity stones out there.
Sakuya even threatened to carve out Present Mic's throat if he even dared to mention my quirk on live TV. It was oddly romantic, or perhaps my time with Sakuya has just warped my common sense to such a large degree already.
Then there are the Mandarin's ten rings, Marvel was a goldmine for me when it came to enhancing my arsenal's size and overall quality.
The Remaker ring alone was, as Sakuya would say, overpowered. It allows me to manipulate matter on such a level I could turn the air into cement, or even a person into stone.
There were 9 other 'broken' rings too. I doubt I would be able to utilize them all during the festival, but it's nice to have the option.
(A/N: Image of rings here: ← )
I needed to ask for Sakuya's help when training with the rings, and the stone, mainly so I could guarantee my own safety, my opponent's safety, and that there would be no permanent property damage when testing. An infinite amount of time was also greatly appreciated.
There was also one more invention/creation that I hid from Sakuya, it was the one I was most proud of so far. Tony Stark was really a genius, and I can't wait to utilize his invention myself. I have no doubt in my mind that the support course would probably revere me as their god with what I was about to show them.
Unlike my wife, I would try my best to shut down their cult before it has enough time to gain traction, even if I have to brainwash them to do so.
One thing I knew, for sure, was that I was going to be the person holding the gold medal by the end of today. I was going to win, make my family proud, myself proud, and more importantly, drag Sakuya off somewhere to claim my prize.
Creation is hard, cheer me up! Love the book? Review it!
Short 2k~ chappy today. The next chapter will have the race in its entirety so don't worry about cliffhangers etc.
Hope you enjoy the chapter, if you didn't tell me why. <3
