"Shit!" The rough breath comes out from my stinging nose because of the biting colds where the mountains in its lowest temperature.
The surrounding area filled with a high bush and tress that covered by the night, no moonlight shines cut through the misty forest.
I could tell that my eyes getting hot in no time because I can't see anything inside this darkness that swallowing me whole.
Thinking back before I came to this situation where I fell from the slippery rock when the mist envelops the mountain range as a sign of the upcoming storms.
I was on my way to go on hiking with my friends in jovial moods before we met the old man at the mount entrances.
"Remember this, Never whistle while hiking, don't ask too much where's the way, don't talk carelessly, and always keep your mind straight!" The old man blinds eye with its faded black eye probably because of Glaucoma, The uneven teeth and then frighten all of us when he sternly warns about this mountain rules.
As far as I know, the villager did believe that this volcanic mountains has a spiritual entity that lived as its owner. They said that this mountain were their gate that connected to our world. Some hiker even told stories when they still lost even after walking on the pathway towards the top mountain but comes out at entirely different mountain. Some even saw a things, or heard their shrill voice, wishpers and sweet encounter.
Some of them comes back with only their shell remains, and the rest couldn't be found as the villagers here stated that the being's ate them alive. Like all modern people who sees it as a mere myth, I and the other brushed it as a nonsense.
We're unrestraintly joking as we tried to catch up on to the middle post before we actually reach the top of the mountain to bask in the sunrise morning.
It should be a fun and fulfilling holiday for my break after so many overworking time.
It's all my fault, I shouldn't have following that suspicious white old grandma: Even with the high-quality shoes can't stand the pull of gravity towards ground.
Some hard stuff directly clashed with my smooth forehead, but my eyes caught that ominous looking hole in a split of seconds before I fell straight into it.
Now I reap what I sow with that seeker wannabe attitude. That's might be a reason there's saying that curiosity kills the cat, and now I'm that wounded cat.
I'm struggling to catch the plant ropes that grow from the tree which, I thought, will become my sleeping cushion thankfully It's wrapping around my body before I can kiss the grounds.
"Huft-Huft..." I gasped for more air because of the rush of adrenalin force my sense to the fullest, as it left me with the sudden release after the most thriller ride I've ever rode: Except for the medium rod of my-ex back in my college days. This one left with many painful limbs to be healed.
Loosening all the tension in my nerve's system, I stare into the hollow air with the half watery eyes. Brainwashing myself that this place still the same forest where my friends are.
I reach the survival knifes in my bag pack side, cutting the ropes in several places and hold the ones that near the tree branch.
I reach it carefully with the cold metals I hold with my teeth and the dangling legs.
I was so certain, I'll go dizzy the moment you turn your sight below.
The tree branch was big enough for you to lay comfortably tonight without fear to fall from the high grounds.
Leaning myself, I check my joints for any injury. A few scratches on my exposed skin, no broken bones except for the future bruise, and the rest was alright. Thanks to the super quality brands I own, the bag still in a good shape except for its dusted appearance.
I reach my bottle drink, and drank it to quench my thirst. The ginger fragrance soothing my burning nose with its warm heat, indicating the water temperature was just right to drink.
Then I reach my phone stored inside my pocket jacket, the time pointing that it's 3:45 a.m past midnight in the morning, the sun will rise sooner, and it will be better to stay here when the thick mist hindering almost all my eyesight.
"I'll move after the sunrises when the mist dissipates." I talked to myself, while optioning to scroll through photos' album inside my phone.
'Sigh.... no signals' Lamenting the poor situation, I distract my wondering minds to keep sane. I saw my mother faces, when she's happily posed on our first family holiday in Switzerland's. My father still in his messy pajamas just before he wakes up and my little brother silly face when I doodled on him with a permanent marker.
I paused on their photos for a long time.
Unknowingly, My face wet with the bursting tears as I'm not sure when will the rescue team reach my position. a heavy feelings dawned on me, like the depression I've experienced just like when my grandma's last moment at the hospital, only the differencies is about the fear that I wont be saved.
Closing the heavy eyelids, I optioned to just rest. Ignoring the the negative emotion that creeping my heart.
Auuuuuuuuuuu-
I heard that sounds not too far away from where I was, the howling animal or more likely a wolf? If I'm not wrong ... there's no such as wild beast in this mountain range open for hiking spot. The only warning covering this entire mount was several case of missing people who came back as the cold corpse; caused by hypothermia.
Holding the trembling hands, I know that I wont be saved if I faced that animal straight. The only option I had was hiding.
The low growl of a wild animal and the biting cold almost seems working together to create this horror stricken situation.
"Shit! shit!"
Thankfully, there's no glowing eyes peeking from the darkness but still the black night curtains threaten my minds to wonder at the most frightening nightmare in my childhood I ever had.
I don't even care about the dampen shirt under my jacket from the cold sweat. I forcefully closed my eyes to avoid thinking too much.
Five minutes...
Ten minutes...
fiveteen minutes...
.
.
"Hello..."
.
A quiet voice heard nearby, Forcing Kayla too open her eyes.
There's sat a young man in front of her, on the same branch she sat on. Looking like her asian's friend from the country she's working at.
A warm smile that she tought was weird in this predicament. Strangely, she can't mutter her voice out as if something holding her voice; aside from that, the cold sweat drippin on my back.
"Did you fall from the cliff ?"
Still managed to nodd my head, the young man with his hiking outfit imitating my gesture as if he understood.
"Still, you're fortunate's enough to fall directly into a tree... without dying." The young man stated, as his gaze felt like dissecting every inch of my body
"wh- who are you?" Half stuttering, I questioning him after Squeezing my scrambling tought out.
I gazes at the figure who looked like he was a hiker too.
'Shit!'
from a split moment, I've seen the man eerie smile; I was sure he knew that I was terified by him.
"Very well... welcome into this world..." As he said that; the voices of the man overlapped with both woman and man sound. Certainly making ones uncomfortable with how it rang in your ears; only then I could see the damaged clothes he was wearing.
Even then, the most absurd thing is...
He's floating with the smile still painted on his face.
Before I could say anything, the darkness engulfing my surrounding; the shock must be strong enough to make me lose my sconciousness.
"Mom.. Dad..."
Images of my family flashed in my mind not too long after the darkness completely take over my sight.
coming soon
