103 Book 2: Chapter 29

I entered the room with my heartbeats already on my throat. Gathering the kind of courage I never knew before, I wore a half-smile on my lips as I beat the board of directors' intimidating stares with my outward confidence. I realize how silly I was. The things these people do were beyond my comprehension. Give me surgical blades and other sets; I might have the full confidence to cut into a human's head and solve a problem, but not with these kinds of people who could kill you with their lethal gaze.

The lawyer stood up while I was yet halfway to my seat. He bowed down with a polite smile, and I got surprised. It was only yesterday when he got so angry that he looked like a beast, ready to devour me.

"Good morning, Dr. Grey!" he said while ushering me to my seat. He then pulled a chair next to him and waited for me to settle down before he left.

He then stood at the edge of the long table and cleared his throat before he spoke.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce Dr. Grey to all you, the heiress of the Grey's legacy and wife of Mr. Sean Mark Grey."

I let out a warm smile and ran my eyes to all of them. "Good morning!"

"Good morning," answered all of them in unison. Only a few of them responded with a smile, and I began to get nervous. I wondered how Sean was able to win their trust.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please take a look at this video," Atty. Evarez gestured with his arm, guiding our attention to the screen.

The screen's white surface then changed into a set of vibrant colors, showing a beautiful flower garden. The display then rolled until it stopped, focusing on a man in his early 70's, sitting on a bench inside a wooden gazebo.

"My dear friends and business colleagues, good day! I may not be around when this time comes, but I'm saving this video to personally welcome my granddaughter into the business world together with my grandson, Sean Mark.

It is not oblivious to all of you that my son Albert ran away due to some personal reasons, which showed how I fail as a father. You all know how much I did to look for him until one day, we found him working as a cruise ship captain bearing the name Albert Nelson.

I fetched for him, but unfortunately, he was already so sick when we found him. In fact, I brought him back to the house in an already comatose state. He was not able to tell me what his life had been when he went away. The only amazing thing we knew about him was that he had a granddaughter.

Sean Mark is a grandson by heart, and I do not regret the day I took him as my own. He is a great blessing to my life. He gives joy to my lonely heart and becomes the family I have lost.

I can't mention enough about how much Sean does for me and how much he means to me. He does not fill my emotional needs alone but also does wonder to the Grey Empire.

I'm not leaving anything to my granddaughter, but I demand that Sean make her his wife by hook or crook. By then, my Red and Sean can mutually own what I am leaving them.

To my granddaughter, whom I am not blessed to be with, please know that grandpa loves you. Let grandpa also tell you that no man on this earth could be better than Sean for you. I watch him grow up, and I know him by heart. So, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and prosperity!

Tears streamed down my face as I fought against my complicated emotion. If it were not for the shareholders fixing their eyes on me, I would have cried so hard. I was happy to see the face of the legendary man who was my grandfather, but I was also sad that I was about to break his dream for Sean and me. I was then convinced of Sean's pure heart because everyone around loved him, even my grandfather.

"Now, let's take a look at this another video," Atty. Alvarez's voice pierced into my thoughts, bringing my attention back to him.

The video then changed into an office background, and Sean's handsome face appeared on the screen. He wore a three-piece business suit that contoured his muscular built, accentuating his physique's attractive features. His rich, resonant voice then floated into the room, at the same time, reverberating into the depth of my heart.

My most respected business colleagues, good day!

I am sorry that I am not around today to personally introduce my wife, Dr. Red Grey, the legal heiress of Grey's legacy. I am on another mission that I can't disclose as of the moment. My wife is taking over on my behalf, and I am asking every one of you to give her the trust and respect that you have given me from the very start.

The blood that runs in her veins is the Greys' blood that keeps their name in history. The same blood that keeps the Grey legacy alive. I am placing my trust in her as much as I have trusted and respected every one of you.

I couldn't hold back myself from sobbing anymore. Sean's thoughtfulness moved me. He could have left me by myself, facing these shareholders who didn't know me at all. He shouldn't have thought about the possible rejection and unacceptance they might give me. Most of all, he should have left me crumbling and falling--reaping the result of my stupidity. To think, I already took everything from him. All of the access to our financial accounts were already in my hands. Whatever he may have right now was just his savings, but that could not provide him long enough unless he finds another job.

A loud round of applause disrupted me from my drama. Everyone's eyes were on me, so I forced myself to smile while pat-drying my tears with a handkerchief.

"Dr. Red, how safe is our money in your hands? Forgive me if I'm too rude to ask, but I just want to make it sure that it is in good hands," one of the board members voiced out.

"Sir, Mr. Sean Grey is still the one ruling the decisions despite his absence. He is still the one to guide his wife in everything."

I looked at Atty. Evarez. This was not what I wanted. I asked him yesterday to tell the board of directors that I am taking over and that Sean is no longer connected to any business firms under TAG.

"How true is the issue that Mr. Grey is leaving TAG and that you are planning to take over? And that the two of you are not in good terms?" another member spoke out.

I got tongue-tied of this confrontation, and the session had just started. Suddenly, I felt that this decision was ruining everything Sean and grandpa had worked hard for.

"Those are just hearsay and, therefore, has no truth in it at all," Atty. Evarez replied on my behalf.

"Atty. Evarez, if this rumor is happening behind our backs, I am telling you ahead that I am withdrawing my share, or I will sell it to Mr. Ian of Riddance Corporation."
