7 The Royal Assembly

"Your majesty," the prime minister resumed, "sooner or later we will have to involve the Court,"

"Our evidence is not concrete. Also, it has been a while since the court have assembled and I am afraid that I no longer know where each faction's loyalties lie,"

The prime minister chuckled inwardly. I am afraid you do not even know where my loyalties lie, my king, he thought.

The king's decree inviting all who held positions in the Royal Court was broadcasted and received by every last one of them.

A handsome young man was currently persuing this summon in the luxury of his summer house, surrounded by guards. His features were clear cut, and he possessed the same purple hair and eyes similar to Officer Moran's, only a lighter shade. Only difference between her and Junior Rank Marquis Janus was that he knew what his features said about him.

His eyes scanned the document from top to bottom and he casually tossed it aside, to the consternation of a middle aged woman and a teenage boy, who all this while had been making themselves as scarce as possible, hiding behind the gazebo's pillars.

"You should confer more respect for the King's decree," Zinora tsked, picking up the scroll and rolling it up neatly.

"You know I do not care for all of them nobles at the Assembly," Janus replied and motioned for one of the guards. "You,"

"Yes, my lord?"

"It's time to strike. Lead your regiment to the Hotar Hill,"

"Yes, my lord!" He left immediately.

Zinora said nothing for a while.

"Janus--what gives you the confidence to do this?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at him, "it's no less than you championing a civil war!"

Janus simply took a goblet from a servant and drank from it. Looking instead at his younger brother, he said:

"I am not obliged to listen to nuns," he smirked. His brother grinned.

He had inherited his father's place at the Assembly because his elder sister Zinora had sworn herself to chastity at the Temple of Valencia.

She glared at him.

"Mharkus," he called his fourteen year old brother, "you are coming with me to the Capital and to the Assembly.

"Yes, brother," the boy replied and bowed.

"All hail the king! Greetings and respect to the Crown of Valencia!"

The Royal Assembly was held at the Assembly Hall, in which sat the throne of the Valencian Empire, a seat carved like the head of a lion, jaws wide open in a roar, on whose gold laden tongue the rulling monarch sat.

The king was dressed in a bright red tunic with a silver colored belt at his middle. Down at the foot of the steps leading up to the throne, on the left, the Queen stood; and on the right, a handsome young man of about sixteen years, wearing similar robes to that of the king- this was Prince Theon, heir to the throne.

"Prime minister?" The king called, signalling the commencement of the court proceedings.
