Chapter 1

Prologue,

The god looked around him and clenched his fists tighter. The great god had summoned the most powerful deities in the Egyptian pantheon.

Even Sekhmet, the forsaken one, was in the great hall standing in the corner watching the other gods converse.

Isis, Osiris, Horus, Hathor, Bastet, Thoth and Anubis. Heka's magic filled the air, it felt suffocating.

Seth forked tail swiveled behind him in agitation. He doesn't like being in this place since that ominous day.

The day he knew about his wife's betrayal and how his brother didn't see something wrong in defiling her.

Nephthys had conceived a child, named Anubis, by Osiris. He had cared for that child and loved him since he was a mere seed in his mother's womb.

He had never thought that his sister and wife would betray him like that; he loved her with all his heart.

Nephthys played her role perfectly and hid the fact that she was in love with his brother Osiris and when she had the chance, they both played him for a fool.

Seth won't lie and say that he regretted what he had done but yet again he shouldn't be that impulsive with his plan.

He should have burned Osiris to ashes not just cut his body into fourteen pieces and throw it across Egypt.

He felt as if a weight was left from above his chest that day when he locked him in that coffin and threw it in the Nile.

But the ultimate satisfaction was when he cut his rotten body into big chunks and scattered it everywhere so he won't find peace in the afterlife.

"But damn his father and that bastard Thoth." The god growled deeply in his throat as he glared at the god of wisdom.

He was laughing at something Isis had said and the goddess giggled like a girl while her long slim fingers hid her mouth.

Even his father had betrayed him and resurrected that deceiving filth.

And although Seth was punished by being humiliated and killed at the hands of his nephew, the great god punished him further by making him the god of nothing.

Just a lowly servant and Seth took on the role of being the defender of Ra by standing at the prow of the solar bark.

On the other hand, Horus was made king of the Two Lands of Egypt. The protector god of the chosen land and the one that kings sing the praise of his name.

He was made to be the guardian of pharaohs.

Seth was supposed to be the ruler of this desert. Instead, he was banished in a disguised way, the great god was mocking him. He should have let him die in peace.

But after the death of Osiris and what the Greeks did to the Titans that option was taken from us. No god can kill another.

The two powerful pantheons made sure of that and even though some deities deserved to be gone for eternity it can't be helped.

Seth's ears twitched when he heard the confident but faint footsteps of the goddess of war and destruction approaching him.

The lioness' golden glowing eyes regarded him with a serious frown drawn on her features.

"You seem agitated Sha, what is it? Is being in the great hall of Ra the cause of this or the presence of the other gods?"

Seth tried not to flinch when he heard the sweet melodic but strong voice of the goddess. He swallowed harshly before looking her in the eye.

The lioness goddess was known for her temper and there was no one, even Ra himself, a match for her strength. She was feared by all and at the same time treated poorly, just like him.

"What gave you that idea, mistress of dread?"

He asked her with an even voice and almost bit his tongue after he recalled how much she hated her titles.

The lioness's eyes shone brighter and her canines elongated but still, she didn't retaliate.

"We two are born of chaos and disorder, lord of the desert. I can see your features change with each passing heartbeat. Your forked tail moves in agitation and your ears are twitching and changing in form."

The god gritted his teeth and used his now somehow clawed fingers to caress his pointy ears. He needs to be calm; this isn't the time to lose his composure.

"Don't give those bastards the satisfaction to see you break. Whatever you have to do, stand strong with your head held high you are the defender of Ra, his only champion."

Seth scowled and turned to stare at the goddess openly, she was so beautiful that sometimes he forgot how cruel she can get.

Sekhmet was the hands of vengeance; she was the punishment that the great god unleashes upon the unfaithful worshiper.

Sekhmet was the ultimate weapon of destruction in a few hours she almost wiped out the entire Egypt and regretted nothing.

She is the eye of Ra and death to whoever challenged him so how come she calls him his only champion?

He opened his mouth to word out his thoughts but closed it and sneered at their uninvited guest.

"Oh, so the two most hated gods are standing alone in a corner and converse. Do you feel let down and rejected and try to comfort each other?"

Seth snarled at Horus and his body began to shake, he doesn't stand that god even more than his father.

"Enough brother, he is our uncle and also in the presence of the crimson lady."

Anubis said reverently bowing his head to Seth and Sekhmet; he always gave him the respect he deserved.

"How are you faring, father?"

He asked the god with a soft smile on his face and Seth's heart clenched and his chest contracted.

It always brought him joy whenever the young god called him that, and he doesn't care that it wasn't real.

Anubis wasn't his son by blood but he is by heart, he is the most precious person to him.

He is the only son he would ever get, after what Horus did to him and took away his ability to seed offspring of his own.

"I'm doing well, son. What about you?"

The shy god smiled again and nodded his head before taking his leave, he went to stand behind Osiris and nod his head in approval.

"I can understand and feel your pain, Seth. We both are the same. We were punished for things that we were meant to do and the great Ra has no compassion for us."

The hall went silent as a stunning aura filled the hall; the gods bowed to their supreme ruler and chanted his praise.

All but him and the lioness, Ra cocked his brow at both of them and shook his head in disapproval.

"Out of all my offspring, you two anger my flames."

He said as he was walking to sit on his flaming dais that overlooked the vast universe.

He kept glaring at them waiting for any response but none came and when the waiting stretched Osiris cleared his throat before taking a few steps forward.

"Why did you summon us here, o mighty one?"

He spoke with his eyes downcast and his hands are in supplication.

Seth smirked; his brother's sickly green complexion and his vividly white robes made him look unpleasing.

So ugly that his wife's relationship was over, she can't bear looking at him right now.

The great god sighed and faced them all after flicking his right hand making the realms mirror glow.

The mirror that helped them see and watch their worshipers focused on the pharaoh's palace as the pharaoh himself was pacing his throne room and yelling at some of his subjects.

"Egypt will go through dire times soon and we are not allowed to interfere. As you all know, we gods are observers as long as humans have their own free will. I can't do anything neither do you."

Thoth walked forward and bowed before addressing the sun god. The tanned lean god frowned.

"Then why are you informing us, almighty one if the outcome would be the same and we can't do anything to change it?"

Ra rolled his eyes and sighed in annoyance. Thoth might be the god of wisdom and knowledge, but he can be clueless sometimes.

"I have gathered all of you here to inform you that the coming years will be hard on all of us. The world is changing and worshipers with it. And also that I have decided to make Horus the Pharaoh guardian for a while. So no need for the draw we make each time."

The god said waving his hand nonchalantly as if this wasn't a big issue.

Seth stood to his full height and snarled at the god who turned to look at him unimpressed.

"This was my turn, you have promised me. It has been hundreds of years since I had a lineage of my own. You keep usurping my rights."

He said harshly as his chest rose and fell. The great god was deceiving him, this was his turn.

"Enough!!"

The floor shook and the air warmed rapidly when the great god stood up and shouted at Seth.

He instantly fell to the ground on his knees kneeling with the other gods fearing Ra's wrath.

"My word is the law you filth, Sha animal. Defy me again and I will end your miserable existence."

And with that, the supreme ruler stormed outside the great hall and the gods dispersed.

Seth stood up his body shaking and eyes glowing red. No, this time he won't bow and lick the god's feet.

He will act but he will be patient this time around, he won't repeat his past mistakes.

He will have his heir with or without the sun god approval.
