1 Pregnant and Alone

Talia, that's me. Pregnant and alone. A stupid girl that thought her boyfriend loved her. I can't believe that after all the time we spent together he tucks tail and runs. Two years. Two years I loved him, I thought he loved me too. Until the day I found out I was pregnant. I thought he would be happy and we'd start our future together building a family. But I was wrong, so wrong that I left town with only his last words in my head.

"Talia, I will never let you have that thing. It will be a beast! You will have an abortion. Do you understand me?" Sam demanded.

"No!" I cried. "I love you. I want our family." with tears rolling down my face reaching for Sam.

"I could never love you. You are my toy and nothing more. Nothing but a bed warmer for me." Sam stiffened his shoulders and glared at me as tears streamed down my face.

"I'm not having an abortion! I can't Sam. I love this baby already. I won't do it!" I shouted. I can't do that, I will regret it for the rest of my live. This child is special and I can feel it already. I guess my motherly instinct is already kicking in.

"You are nothing to me and will never be anything to me. So don't think you will pin that child on me!"

He shouts at me as he walks to my door. As he opens my door he turns to look at me and says "You will have that abortion or I will kill you. You have a week to get it done. And if you don't I will come for you. And you will regret it." And then he turns and slams my door shut.

So now after deciding that he's not going to force me to have an abortion, I decided to leave so he could never find me. Sam never treated me bad until that day. I still don't understand what happened but I will not look back. I can't afford to look back. So I ran. Well drive actually. Lol. I'm not sure where I stopped but I had to. I am over tired and I started to fall asleep. Nope not a good idea.

So I'm here at this dinner, in God only knows where. Burger, fries and a vanilla milkshake. Yum! So glad I stopped. I needed to refuel and rest. Tomorrow I will continue going on my journey to a new me.

.....

The morning sun rises and I sit at the same diner with coffee in hand, fueling my body before I start today's drive. I have enough money for food and gas to get across the country but once I get to my destination I will have to find a job immediately. I doubt I will have enough to get a place to live, so I've planned to sleep in my car until I can afford a place. My plan isn't perfect but my baby is safe and I plan to keep it that way.

I pay for my food and coffee to go, yes I live for coffee. Who's doesn't right? I make sure I have a full tank of gas and check the oil, just like my dad taught me before going on long trips. I miss him so much. I haven't seen him in 10 years, but he calls ever so often. I changed phones and numbers at the last town I was in and sent him a text so he'd have my new number for when he calls next since I never know when that will be. I was afraid Sam would try to track me if I kept my old phone. He was so threatening before I left. I didn't want to leave anything to chance at all.

After driving for 3 days I am finally in the small town that I picked out on the map. I miss the woods and I want to get back to my roots, especially since I will be a single mother now. I will look for a job tomorrow, maybe I will have some luck at the small dinner I seen. Luckily I still have some cash left so I think I will see if I can find a short term rental. I will definitely need to find something permeant before winter sets in. I am still early in my pregnancy so I have some time before the baby arrives.

It's early in the morning so the first place I search for must be a place that serves coffee. I think I seen a small café last night, I wonder if they are hiring. I know that I have a degree and I am meant to help people since I have spent the last 8 years in medical school and I really don't want to waste all that time. And I don't think that anyone will hire a pregnant doctor. I leave my car parked in the small little park that I found while I walk around and explore the town. It will be nice to walk around after driving for the past three days straight. I love the smell of the trees. Fall has just begun so it is so beautiful here, leaves of all different colors of reds and yellows. This town is quiet, there are people walking around and greeting me like I have lived here all my life. Of course they aren't greeting me by name but it's just the super friendly small town. I love the feeling I get from this town.

There's the café! Oh, it's so cute. It's small with room for about 5 tables on the inside and they have outside seats also. I think I'll take an outside table since it is such a beautiful day. While I sit and wait for the girl to come take my order I decide to look down the street and see what stores are that direction.

The waitress walks up with a menu and tells me her name is Tracy and if I knew what I would like or if I need to see the menu. I tell her that I'd like a large coffee with sugar only and a piece of coffee cake. She gave me the biggest smile and told me she will be right back. As she turns to walk back inside I see her loose her balance and stumble. She adjusts herself and makes her way to the counter to get my order. I turn my attention back to quite street and just watch. This is so much better than living in the city were I was at. There I never took the time to enjoy the 'scenery', but here I feel calm and at home. Home.... I wish I had a home. I need to find a job and I need to find it fast.

Tracy brought my coffee and coffee cake, I thanked her and gave her a smile as she turns to greet another customer. I barley look at his direction but something about him grabs my attention. His facial features are sharp and he has a look of authority to him. Tracy bows her head slightly to him, so slightly that I barely take notice. She takes his order and then leaves. When she leaves I notice that this man is staring at me. I smile and say "Hi", responds with a deep voice and greets me.

"Good Morning Miss....." He responds, he is wearing a black, tailored to fit him with a black hat.

"Taila Blue" I reply in a sweet tone that only I could pull off, well at least that is what I thought anyways.

"Good Morning Miss Blue, I am Gregory Black. I am the towns Mayor. Are just visiting our little town?" He asks.

"Actually, I chose Blue Mountain to get a fresh start on life. So I am hoping to find a job and a place to live soon." I admit to him. "This place just called to me"

"Well most people have seasonal work at the resort just up the road there. They should be hiring soon for the up coming winter ski season. May I ask what your profession use to be?" Did his eyes just flicker? I must be seeing things, may I didn't get enough sleep last night, I was in my car the whole night.

"Mr. Black, I am a Doctor. However, I assume your small town already has an established doctor, so I am pretty much open to anything at the moment." I watch as it seems Mr. Black stares off into space like a crazy person, then all of a sudden he looks down at me and says "Go over to the Blue Mountain Resort and ask for Reggie, my daughter, and talk with her. She may have something available now. If I remember correctly the resident doctor took another job somewhere else, so she may have an opening there."

"Thank you Mr. Black, I will head over there after I finish my coffee."

"Your welcome. I hope that you will enjoy your stay in our little town. We are a small town but our people treat each other like family here." He gives me a short nod and takes his coffee from Tracy and walks back in the direction he came from.
