9 Chapter 6 You Are Really 6_1

As Ross moved the electromagnetic shield onto the vehicle, the team got into the van and drove towards the suburbs.

The time arrived at dusk, the moon shone brightly, and the only sounds in the forest were the chirping of insects and the calling of birds.

Qin Ming led his squad around surveillance, slowly approaching the base entrance from a blind spot, the abandoned ancient castle.

A dangerous and tense atmosphere spread, Ross's grip on his gun tightened, and the rest of the team became highly alert.

Contrary to their cautious attitude, at this very moment, two security personnel in the experiment base's monitoring room were chatting idly.

"Ethan, you know what? The other day I heard one of the lab monkeys say 'funk your mother.'"

"That's impossible, you must have heard wrong, how could a monkey speak human language."

Their relaxed conversation betrayed a complete ignorance of the approaching danger. With hidden surveillance all around the base and the main gate capable of withstanding artillery fire, they couldn't imagine anyone sneaking in unnoticed.

They would soon pay for their carelessness.

Two steel needles rotated slowly above their heads, entering their brains at inconceivable angles through their eardrums.

Qin Ming's telekinetic field had enveloped the entire base, snuffing out any and all variables in their cradle; the two in the monitoring room were already dealt with. For good measure, he also used a high-powered electromagnetic signal jammer, ensuring that no message could get in or out, turning the Aiben Experiment Base into an isolated island that couldn't contact the outside world.

This was the overwhelming advantage of asymmetric information.

Qin Ming used telekinesis to open the alloy gate from the inside, and Ross led the team in single file.

Are these the mercenaries?

Ross, who had just easily slit the enemy's throat, felt a sense of unreality. These people were too weak; he had the illusion that he alone was sufficient.

Could it be the effect of the drug?!

In the end, he attributed it all to the drug that developed the brain.

Ross didn't know that without Qin Ming, the operation would never have gone so smoothly.

It couldn't be helped; the telekinetic field was too overpowered. For any invader, the external surveillance was a hurdle, not to mention the alloy gates, which were a full two meters thick.

Half an hour later, the remaining dozen or so security personnel were silently taken care of by the team with knives, and the only one who noticed the intruders and tried to draw a gun was turned into a sieve by a silenced pistol.

The other people in the base remained undisturbed, still sleeping soundly.

Qin Ming ordered half of the people to rest and the other half to clean up the bodies neatly. The place used to be someone else's problem, but now as his own, it made sense to keep it clean and well maintained.

Next, Qin Ming began to wander around his own base, wanting to familiarize himself with the surroundings.

From top to bottom, the base had four levels, each about the size of a soccer field. The first floor was an activity room with a basketball court, pool tables, and even a shooting range.

The second floor housed the restrooms and kitchen, with many small rooms, where the research staff were currently sleeping.

The third floor was the biological laboratory, containing microscopes, an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, a fully automatic refractometer, and dozens of other high-precision medical and chemical instruments that Qin Ming couldn't even understand at the moment.

The fourth floor held the monitoring room, areas where the experimental animals were detained, and a food cold storage room.

Apart from New York's city power, the base's electricity was maintained by two backup diesel generators. It was practically a realization of the perfect secret base Qin Ming had envisioned in his childhood, except for the lack of artificial intelligence.

Who didn't have a secret base with their playmates as a child?

After browsing the fourth floor, he didn't leave but stood still, his gaze fixed intently on a spot on the ground.

Following his gaze, there was nothing there but the alloy floor shining with the gleam of metal.

But Qin Ming knew in his heart that there was another layer beneath, and it was no simple matter. It hid the greatest secrets of the experiment base and even of NZT-48.

This was the entrance to the fifth floor!

Although the surface of the base appeared to be only four stories high, and even the central elevator had buttons for only four floors, it could not deceive Qin Ming's eyes or his telekinetic field.

After standing for a moment, he turned and left.

He already had a guess about the secrets beneath, but he did not plan to unveil them just yet; the time had not come.

·······

A night passed, and morning arrived.

For the people within the base, it was no more than a night's sleep, and yet the base had changed owners.

In the first-floor activity room, more than thirty scientists and engineers maintaining the base equipment stood in several rows, their expressions a mix of fear, unease, and bewilderment as they nervously watched the youth on the stage peeling a boiled egg with his slender fingers.

They had been herded here at gunpoint upon waking up and had already been standing for an hour.

Seeing the five menacing gunmen around them, everyone understood that the base had likely been overtaken by a group of mysterious assailants.

On the stage, Qin Ming finished peeling the freshly boiled egg and gulped it down, washing it with a few sips of water.

The egg yolk was rich in lecithin, a vital component for brain development, and highly beneficial to the brain; being in his growing years, he needed to eat more eggs for brain nutrition.

"Dr. Qin, all communication devices have been gathered as you instructed," Ross said, holding a large bag in one hand, then placing it beside Dr. Qin: "They're all here."

Qin Ming glanced at it and saw it was filled with mobile phones and other communication devices that could connect to the outside world, along with some handguns and the like.

"Ross, there's one missing," he said.

"How is that possible, Dr. Qin? I have searched everywhere, including their persons," Ross protested.

"Has your medication worn off?!" Qin Ming glanced at Ross and continued, "There's no such thing as impossible, only things you haven't thought of."

Having said that, he glanced toward the young woman standing at the back.

The woman was dressed in tight jeans, with a curvy figure and an attractive physique.

Following his gaze, everyone turned to look and saw that it was Anna, the youngest and most beautiful female scientist in their base, a mere twenty-five years old and a high-achieving graduate from the University of Cambridge.

At that moment, Anna was trembling.

"Anna, hand over your phone to them, or you'll suffer," someone beside her advised.

Oh, the woman's name was Anna.

From the person who was persuading her, Qin Ming learned the woman's name.

He smiled and said, "Ms. Anna, should I have someone retrieve it, or will you hand it over yourself?"

His words seemed like a death knell, making Anna tremble even more violently.

Minutes later, with everyone watching, her face flushed with embarrassment and after much hesitation, she handed over her phone.

The sight of the Nokia phone she pulled out, as thick as a child's wrist, shocked everyone. Some admired her, others were dumbfounded, and a few displayed lecherous grins.

Qin Ming observed the reactions of the people beneath him; he, too, was quite astounded.

The human body really is amazing!

Qin Ming noticed that Anna's legs were shaking so severely that she nearly couldn't stand. Believing it to be very considerate of him, he had someone bring a chair for her to sit down.

Wait, how did Dr. Qin know it would be there? Ross's little heart was greatly shocked.
