Chapter 57: One Day Left

"Duanxian Yu, are you hiding something from me?"

The figure in the kitchen abruptly pauses in his actions. Putting on a tender smile, his hand movements continued as smooth as running water. "Not at all. What made you think that?"

Fu Xi sat at the table facing the kitchen with a cup of warm water in hand. Other than sensing his return at night, barely a shadow can be seen from Duanxian Yu these past two days.

Other than him secretly planning something, Fu Xi can't think of another reason for his absence. "Must be my imagination then." He calmly took a sip of water.

"Tap." A warm bowl of rice porridge appears in front of Fu Xi's line of sight. Followed by Duanxian Yu's gentle smile, " eat while it's hot, you look pale these days so I made you something easy to digest."

Peering at him from over the mug, a scrutinizing gaze scanned Duanxian Yu from top to bottom before landing on that hateful smile of his.

"En." Nodding obediently with a soft hum, he set the cup aside and had his hand move towards the bowl in front. Only to be gripped loosely on the wrist by the man next to him.

Casting him a glance, Duanxian Yu chuckled next to his ear, "I'll feed you." Without waiting for a reaction, his fingers lifted the first spoonful towards Fu Xi. "Ah."

"I can feed myself." Upturned eyes glared fiercely at the spoon of porridge steaming up his vision while his mouth willfully opened for the bite. The taste of silky rice porridge slid down his throat and left the lingering taste of fresh scallions. Having something warm and substantial enter into his stomach relieved the weakness of hunger. Pale skin began to flush a healthier red and the pain of growing scales seemed to dull at this distracting moment.

This is just another ordinary day.

__________

"He isn't waking up." Concern overfill from the youthful voice ringing out in the quiet room. Looking at the unconscious figure laying in bed, Lei Lin cautiously brushed aside strands of hair sticking onto Xie Luochen's forehead. Turning around to face the equally worried Hong Wen behind, reddened eyes threaten to spill tears. "What do we do?"

Pulling the crying figure into his embrace, Hong Wen assured in a low voice next to his ear. "Don't worry, everything will be fine. Although we don't know why our youngest is like this, Master already told us that he is not in any danger." Patting his back in a steady rhythm, the little guy in his arms gradually regained his initial calm. "Even if you don't believe in what I'm saying, there is no way our Master will lie to us."

"I believe you…" Lei Lin said in a stuffy voice, fingers clasp tightly onto his shirt. "What can we do now?" A tear stained face withdrew from Hong Wen's chest.

"Master told us that something will happen soon. So we can only wait." Brows furrow with uneasiness while thin lips pinched in company of anger. Slender fingers clench at his own powerlessness amidst fear of an unknown future. Hong Wen, turn towards the window with a solemn gaze.

Without him knowing, the sky has already turned grey, signs of a storm are coming.

__________

At an unknown location far from the prying eyes of deities and humans alike, an army of shocking proportions arrange themselves into a neat formation. Gloomy black robe covers every part of their bodies and leaves only two orbs of bloody red gleaming from the slits of the black hood.

A murderous energy of unparalleled blood lust filled the air and slowly congregated into the form of thick red mist. Restrained excitement took a firm hold as shown from the gazes of each soldier stationed like a statue across the ground.

Moments later a presence blatantly different from those standing on the ground emerge from the top of the cliff. A single red pupil swept across the crowd with dispassionate arrogance, as though everything beneath his feet is dirt and insects alike. In contrast to others, this new arrival does not donn on a simple black robe but a casual green garment carelessly hung around his shoulders. A large scar on his bare chest along with his single eye creates a grotesque image that blends well with the malevolent grin on his face.

Taking a step closer to the edge, a hoarse voice akin to nails clawing across a blackboard rang out. "Listen up! Soon, we the demon clan can finally escape this accursed place and roam on the mortal lands! For thousands of years we have hidden ourselves in this godforsaken place acting like a bunch of secluded rats. But that ends soon."

Yanking out the sword hanging on his waist, the sharp gleam of cold steel burst forth with a silver flash. Raising it high up at the sky, the demon in command continued with a thundering voice. "Soon the gates connecting the two world will open and a new golden age for us will descend! We will summon our King back from the grave to lead us to a new era of fear!"

Stimulated by these words, the soldiers on the ground wrench out their weapons one by one, the sound of sharp objects slicing apart the wind became the only perceivable sound within the crowd.

The one eye commander took another dangerous step towards the edge. Just a few more inches separate him from the ground meters below. Shouting in fanatical possession, his deranged laughter filled the dark skies. "Fight for our King, die for our honor, and pave the road in red for our future! Hahahahahaha!" Saying so, the sword on his hand sliced down in a smooth curve. A burst of red stained the ground as blood flowing from his wrist collected and slid down the cliff.

Following his actions, the soldiers below lifted their swords without an ounce of hesitation, "for our King! Our honor! Our Future!" Countless beams of silver flash instantaneously accompanied by streams of spouting blood. The dense stench of sweet iron permeates the already stifling air, making the place even harder to breath.

As if attracted by some kind of mysterious force, the blood crawled, yes, crawled. Similar to a centipede, streams of blood slowly creep forward the numerous grooves created on the ground around the soldiers. Bit by bit like a blank painting being filled with color, the highlighted grooves began to form the image of an enormous transportation array.

Calculating according to the speed of streaming and collecting blood. The day after tomorrow such be suffice in completing this formation.

One day left.
