W2 (7)

It wasn’t that Feral was a person that had been possessed by Dina and still had partial control over his body. This question was something Dina made sure to get an answer to before transmigrating. After all, she didn’t want to be an identity stealer or some sort of body snatcher.

The answer, however, was something that left her astounded.

“Well, every chosen identity you’re to transmigrate into is actually you,” Mrs. Katelyn had told her.

“Like wha? Humor me more please!” Dina had said with a completely blank face that showed her complete confusion.

“It’s complicated Dina, and it’s something that you’d need a higher level to know as it’s classified information,” Mrs. Katelyn said with a sigh.

“Okay, let’s forget me now and say other transmigrators? Do they basically steal the lives of those they possess?” Dina asked.

“No, that’s strictly forbidden as all lives are equal and precious in the sight of the empress. We never take their bodies unless they ask us to, and that is mostly as a dying wish.”

“They ask you to?”

“Believe it or not, Dina, some people in your world you come across are our agents. Most dead souls have some sort of regret about something that they didn’t do, something that happened to them and the rest. Now when their regrets are strong enough and highly potent, they unconsciously call out to us which we listen to in exchange for their chances of reincarnation.”

“You mean…”

“Yes Dina, we erase their soul and in terms cancel out the normal cycle of reincarnation that every person has. After all, everything comes with a price. You don’t expect us to freely help them, do you? That would be cheating on the other deads who just didn’t have a strong enough regret.

"So Dina, there’s nothing like us taking over a person’s body by force, everyone we take over are people who’re already deemed dead or gave up their lives themselves, in this case, the person is still alive so we either throw them in a coma or dream where it makes it easier to take their soul.”

“Oh my God, is this why some people die in their dreams?! What if you don’t really mean it like you were just confused about it or something like that?!” Dina exclaimed

“Dina, there’re some wishes that cannot be undone ever, and besides your desire has to be strong, very strong for one to actually summon us unconsciously and that kind of force that can attract us isn’t a simple one, we’re not amateurs after all. If that kind of wish was easily reversible… then there’s no way we could actually be summoned.” Mrs. Katlyn paused but noticing that Dina wouldn’t be satisfied until she really got the answer she wanted, she continued-

“If however, one was so indecisively stupid to regret their summon, or just plain greedy to have their wishes fulfilled and still be reincarnated just like every other soul then… it’s not doable, for every wish there’s a price and that’s why the most popular saying on our side is ‘Be careful what you wish for!’” Mrs. Katelyn concluded.

Dina was stunned. She wanted to say more but found herself at a loss for words because in the end, they weren’t necessarily wrong now, were they? It wouldn’t be fair for the others who died if some special privileged ones with loud voices, even at death, get a chance to undo their mistakes while others just die and get recycled into a new life with no chance of undoing stuff.

The fairest thing was to have a huge price to pay. After all, it was only sane that for something so priceless, another thing equally priceless is given. All said and done though…. wasn’t the price a tad bit too much?

“Do they know? The price to pay?” Dina asked depressingly. It was just too sad. Wasn’t it just better to let go of the past life and move on? Rather than lose your chance at a new, possibly great life, wasn’t it better to just let go?

“Yeah, of course, just like your contract, we show it to them and have them sign it before anything. Look, Dina, the Empress isn’t a tyrant who doesn’t give a shit about her creations, she adores every single one of them and although life might sometime be so bad you question this theory, it’ll forever be something incorrigible,” Mrs. Katlyn fawned.

“Besides, no soul can forever be reincarnated, every soul has an assigned energy and when used up, their soul fades away naturally and nothing can be done about it. That’s just how things are unless one is immortal,” Mrs. Katlyn said softly in order to calm Dina, who was looking pretty depressed.

However, Dina would have none of that.

“Yes, she’s great! She’s amazing, oh the great Empress! All life must be fair this, all life must be fair that but in the first place wasn’t she the one who allowed those poor souls to live lives so cruel that they wouldn’t mind giving up their 2nd chance to change it all? That’s fair? That's what you call fucking fairness? I don’t know Aunt but all I see is a narcissist who thinks she’s so awesome.

"Yeah, give the poor creatures a chance to change their mistakes but at a cost to make it fair~. If she really was kind, then she should have helped when they were alive, not dead! Gone! Ended! Fuck this shit, Aunt, let’s j-just move on to another topic,” Dina said angrily.

“Dina….” Mrs. Katlyn started but was cut off by Dina.

“Enough. Let’s end this now, Aunty.”

“Alright then,” she said with a worried smile.

‘Maybe I shouldn’t have been so angry then and asked her to explain more about my situation,’ Dina thought direly.

Basically, the soul disappearing thing after fixing regrets also worked for reborn people, regressed ones, etc, which was usually when the person chooses to fix their own mistakes themselves only at the same cost of course.

Reincarnation with memories was a different case altogether, though which wasn’t explained in the end due to her sudden rage. Oh well, Mrs. Katlyn could always tell her later.

‘If my theory is correct then, my case is different and according to Aunty, Feral is another me, maybe an alternate version or something? Not sure. But if that theory is right, it means that right now, by standards, aren’t I stealing Feral’s body? Ahhh!! So annoying, plus Zero won’t say a thing until I get permission. Damn it!’

Dina wasn’t sure if her guess was right, but according to the crazy theorem she had made up, she was now Feral and Feral her. Only, she was the main controller and although Feral’s presence was still there, it was only a small portion of it.

But that portion was giving her quite the trouble! Like, how could you attack this sociopathic asshole even after knowing what he could do? That was total bullcrap.

“Zero, is there a way to learn how to completely keep this raging bulldog under complete control?” Dina asked.

“Well… the fact that his presence is still around can only mean that something is holding it back,” Zero said after contemplating for a while.

“But what could it be?” Dina questioned, something that held the boy back... like a regret? That would make sense, but what…. oh!

“He reacted pretty strongly to the pendant, so maybe something related to…. ah his parents! Could it be?”

A/N:

I'm back! Sorry for not uploading after so long but it's 'cause I was editing this novel! Until now I never knew that editing a novel could be so strenuous but finally, I'm done with all the edits. I didn't change much and in case you're wondering if you should reread the whole thing again... don't! Unless you want to.

The changes are only grammatical and the only ones that might have been changed slightly are the first chapters before W1. However, as I said before, don't reread unless you want to, the story's still the same, with no major changes too! Thank you for waiting, my updates have begun again, and this time I promise not to take breaks without permission!

Am so so sorry guys, but I'll try hard not to take any long breaks again. Special call out to @Riks for their helpful comments, I felt inspired because of you! Thank you so much!
