42 Missing

"Hello?" I say to the phone against my ear. It's an unknown number but I know it's a New York area code.

"Come outside." A robot-filtred voice says.

Confused and tired I continue. "Sorry, I can't, it's 2 am an-"

"I wasn't asking. Come outside."

"Looks like I already answered." I answer back.

"We know who you are, Blossom Harriet. Your little boyfriend won't be able to save you." The line becomes cold and I immediately feel sick in my stomach, my mouth as dry as ever. "If you're not outside in 5 minutes, you should get your 'goodbyes' in quick."

And the mystery person hangs up.

What am I meant to do? I can't just die like this. No, I have to stay.

I slide my black socks across the hardwood floor to get to the kitchen light, the pit weighing me down. I don't know why these people want me. I would tell Harry but I don't want to worry him. I mean he's worried enough by the fact I have the stinging cut along my neck from last night.

I hear this paper noise from the front door, so I see a laminated page slid under the small gap. I probably shouldn't go over there. Blossom, it's locked. It's also unsafe. I hesitate, but I finally decide to make my way over to the door as stealthily as possible, trying not to attract any attention.

I look at it and my heart rises back up again.

They were looking. They may still be out there. My dad. My mum. The family that I abandoned still wanted me.

I need to go back.

Whether they moved out or not, I need to go back there and at least try.

I may have killed my brother there but running away will never solve anything, and it's what I've been doing all this time. Simply I'll resolve it and leave.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel, there's hope. I'm so close.

I choose not to wake up the knackered Harry in the other room and instead squeal from thrill and excitement.

I quickly cut myself off as I don't want to be heard by presumably the masked woman. I don't know who she is or what she wants but if I'm not out there in 1 minu-

1 minute?

1 Minute!

My heart races as I slide on my shoes and head outside. I waste no time and run for my life.

My stomach feels like it's floating, and my head is mushed up, it's not a nice combo. I press the elevator button numerously and wait.

No, I can't wait.

I have to go now.

I rush down the stairs as I hear the ding of the sent up lift.

Damn you.

I sigh but don't hesitate to keep on running down flights of stairs, burning the energy that I'd like for the day ahead of me.

I hear my shoes tap on the floor as I reach the bottom of the stairs. I can tell I'm late.

I hear my phone go off.

The alleyway.

I rush behind the building to the damp, dark alleyway where I see a masked person, the same girl as before.

She removes her mask.

And my heart drops.
