Though the space was cramped, we did manage to make our way out of the dungeons of the prison and out into the outside world. Several guards glared at us, or more specifically me, while we made our way to the surface. I paid them no mind since they are insignificant to my issues right now.

"Why do you hate this city, Ryujin-san?" I asked in an effort to break the awkward silence.

He looked forward and did not blink. It was as if he was in a trance.

"I…" He turned his gaze towards me. "It's a long story, Kenji Fujima. Perhaps I shall tell it to you some other time."

I gave a sharp exhale to let him know I was not satisfied with that answer, but I will respect his privacy for the time being. He's been the most helpful person we've come across in this entire city by far, so I owe him at least that much.
