Chapter 21

It caught my attention because it was perfect, as though someone had looked into my mind and crafted this place from my dreams. It’s located in the countryside but still at a commutable distance from our jobs. The asking price was so cheap, I thought the Realtor had fucked up the listing, but no. The owners wanted it off their hands yesterday, so they were willing to sell it for a pittance.

It’s a log cabin, large with the open floor plan I’d always dreamed of, a huge fireplace, and lots of potential. It also lacks heating and warm water and the roof needs fixing, the garden is overgrown, the chimney needs to be reconstructed, and the kitchen has electricity, but that’s about it. I swear the fridge is from when fridges were first invented; it’s so old and loud.

I used all this and more as arguments as to why we shouldn’tbuy the cabin, and David easily struck down all of them. I stood no chance of winning, especially since I desperately wanted the property, and he knew it.
