Chapter 154 — Carefree Days Are Over

The test was soon over. Teacher Dan collected the papers and left after informing them that he would choose his representative himself.

Thankfully, school was almost over. Computer studies was their last class for the day. Li Yuchen was prepared to pay full attention in class for once, but was sorely disappointed when the class eventually began.

All Teacher Long planned to teach for the first day were things he had self learned a long time ago.

He instead began to write down codes in his notebook to fight boredom. So focused was he that he got a burst of inspiration and began writing faster.

The teacher didn't notice at first, but when he eventually did, he was furious. "Student Li Yuchen, stand up!"

Li Yuchen who was engrossed in what he was doing, didn't even hear the teacher. Han Yichen had to nudge him.

"What was the last thing I said?" Teacher Long asked.

Li Yuchen rolled his eyes inwardly. Why was this the only question teachers knew how to ask to catch distracted students? Couldn't they be more creative?

Still he answered politely, "I know you were talking about the basics of the binary numbering system, but I'm not very sure about the last thing you said."

Teacher Long frowned. "So you weren't paying attention then. Come out."

Li Yuchen sighed. It seemed that there was something about him that usually attracted anger and punishment from teachers. "Or am I not cute enough to them?" he wondered.

He went to the front of the class, where Teacher Long gave him the marker and asked him to solve a question he had written on the board.

Looking at the question, Li Yuchen found the situation funny. These teachers really lacked imagination. How could all of them use the same methods to "punish" students?

One had to ask how Li Yuchen gathered so much experience in his "career" of being a troublesome student, despite only being a student for like six years.

The question on the board was obviously not a basic question. He had not been paying attention, but he knew it was impossible for Teacher Long to have just taught everyone this in the first class.

Still, many students would probably be able to solve it, since this was the elite class after all. So he played along and wrote down the answer in a few strokes. Easy peasy.

Teacher Long frowned even more when he saw that Li Yuchen got it correct. He thought a bit and wrote down five more questions. Just by looking at them, anyone could tell that they were clearly many times more difficult.

Teacher Long was really out to teach him a lesson. Some of Li Yuchen's admirers were already panicking. This cute classmate mustn't suffer!

But Li Yuchen smirked. If this was literature, he would have almost exhausted his brain cells by now. But computer studies? Oh please. This wasn't even challenging at all.

Without stopping, he wrote down answers to all the questions in less than three minutes. When he finished, he surveyed his work proudly.

Apart from the handwriting that could only be described as unsightly, everything else was perfect. Li Yuchen decided to ignore his handwriting. Anyway, he was used to typing instead.

Looking at the neat way he outlined the solution and final answers, Teacher Long was properly convinced this time and reluctantly nodded at him.

At this nod, most of the class burst into a resounding round of applause. Half of them did so just because he looked very cool at the moment, while the other half was truly convinced of his abilities. Han Yichen smiled and gave him a thumbs up.

Jiu Renxin, who was waiting for him to make a fool out of himself was shocked into silence. Still, he refused to clap. He convinced himself that it was pure luck. He must have seen those questions somewhere and crammed them. Ehn, that must be it.

Not willing to let him go so easily, Teacher Long asked to see his notebook. The whole class waited with baited breath. It would be a shame if he eventually received punishment because of what he was writing.

But they worried for nothing. The more Teacher Long looked at his book, the more excited he became. "You actually wrote all these?"

Li Yuchen nodded.

"Wonderful! This is fantastic! Come and see me in my office after class. Infact, let's go together now."

Teacher Long quickly assigned classwork to the rest of the class and then dragged the bewildered Li Yuchen out, leaving the rest of the class to speculate on what Li Yuchen actually wrote.

Li Yuchen himself could not understand the excitement. What just happened?

It turned out that there was an annual programming competition coming up in a few weeks. Teacher Long had always wanted to enroll a student of his into the competition, but Anping First Middle School rarely had students that were interested in this. It seemed almost everyone was either interested in Maths and Literature, or in sports.

Now that he had found a talent, his excitement was naturally beyond comprehension. He took Li Yuchen first to Principal Shen, who was ecstatic.

For Teacher Long to be this excited, it meant that this boy truly had potential!

It made so much sense. Student Yichen's father was the producer of that latest popular software after all. Thinking about the school ascending to new heights with this new batch of students made Principal Shen's mood extremely good.

Li Yuchen was then taken to the teacher's room, where Teacher Long proceeded to have a good long talk with him. By the time he finally finished, it was two hours later.

Li Yuchen dragged his tired self back to the room. He could see his relaxed and carefree days flying farther away from him.

This wasn't how things were supposed to play out!

My Goddess, Dad, please come and save me!!!

Doctor Zhong had Su Qianhua admitted into a private room immediately while he ran series of tests. When the results were not exactly adding up, he furrowed his brows.

The more he frowned, the more worried Jiang Philip became. Was something wrong with Su Qianhua? His heart tightened at the mere thought.

"Doctor Zhong, what's the problem? Is she ill? Is her life in danger?"

Doctor Zhong did not answer, further heightening his anxiety. He grabbed Doctor Zhong's white coat before he could think better of it.

The feeling of being grabbed by the throat brought Doctor Zhong back to reality. "Calm down Mr. Jiang. Things are a bit puzzling, but I'll get to the bottom of it, just relax."

Jiang Philip wasn't convinced, but he let go and apologized.

To confirm his thoughts, Doctor Zhong arranged for the B-type ultrasound machine to be brought over.

Su Qianhua didn't want to look at the screen, so she turned her face away as tears began to build up in her eyes again. This process was so familiar that her heart was full of pain.

As she felt the coolness of the gel and the movement of the ultrasound probe on her abdomen, she trembled and shut her eyes tightly. She was so caught up in her feelings that even Doctor Zhong's excited "I knew it!" didn't get through to her at all.

Jiang Philip for the most part, was trembling. His eyes could clearly see the familiar black and white silhouette on the screen, but his brain wasn't computing.

Seeing the lack of reaction from the parents, Doctor Zhong understood and pressed a button.

The sound of "Lub-dub! Lub-dub! Lub-dub! Lub-dub! Lub-dub! Lub-dub!...." filled the room.

At this sound, Su Qianhua stiffened, before finally turning her eyes to the screen. On seeing the familiar picture, her eyes zoomed in on Doctor Zhong, who nodded, "It was just a scare. The baby is safe."

When she received this verbal confirmation, fresh tears cascaded down her cheeks. Jiang Philip hugged her tightly, ultrasound gel and all with tears of his own in his eyes.

Their baby wasn't lost after all. He was alive and well.

Su Qianhua kept whispering, "He didn't leave me. He doesn't hate me. He stayed. He really stayed." while Jiang Philip kept nodding. Both of them were locked in a world of their own in the private ward.

Doctor Zhong allowed them to have their moment while he returned to his office. He felt very happy for them as well.

They had come a long way from being uninterested to sincerely wanting the child. He felt like he had been a spectator of their unlikely love story.

By the time he returned to the room, they had regained control of their emotions. Jiang Philip took the lead in asking,

"So what exactly happened there? They told us at City A's general hospital that she suffered a miscarriage! How could they make such a mistake?" He questioned angrily.

Su Qianhua was a bit more subdued, "But it's true that I bled at the time, that's why I didn't question the diagnosis. What exactly happened?"

Don't come after me please...at least the baby is safe)))
