336—Visiting Her Godson (2)

Pei Yueran warmed her fingers before touching his cheeks. Her eyes lit up at the softness. Seeing how happy she looked, Li Chuanmo's eyes darkened.

Even when they left the study a few minutes later, Pei Yueran kept looking back, as if she could see him through the door. "Does he sleep for very long?"

"Not too long. He should wake up in about half an hour. Since the nursery is soundproof, we have the baby monitor installed so that we can know the moment he gets up." Kathy replied.

Pei Yueran nodded as she said, "He's such a cute boy." She couldn't get over his cuteness. It had been a while since she last saw such an angelic face.

"He looks just like my Philip did as a child." Kathy said proudly.

Pei Yueran agreed with her. She could not see the color of his eyes since they were closed, but from the pictures Su Qianhua had been sending regularly, he definitely had his father's eyes.

That reminded her, "Is Qianhua not home? I told her we were coming and I even called her repeatedly, but no response.

Kathy gave a smile that wasn't a smile, "Both of them are home, just tied up with some urgent business. Let me call them for you."

She went to their room and knocked crisply before saying in a loud voice, "Qianqian, Philip, you have guests!"

The couple who were seriously solving their urgent business, froze in action at the sudden noise. Jiang Philip even mistakenly "sent an email" prematurely, so startled was he.

He wanted to cuss. Was she his mother or his enemy?

"Sorry Baby," he said sheepishly to Su Qianhua, who sat up and snapped her fingers, "Oh no, I'd forgotten that Ranran was coming today!"

They looked at each other, then scrambled to wear their clothes. Su Qianhua found her phone under the pile of blankets to check her missed calls. Seeing that it was indeed Pei Yueran, she sent her a message that said "coming," put her phone aside and dressed up with alacrity.

They were ready in a couple of minutes, and Jiang Philip went out first, while Su Qianhua took a moment to catch her breath.

Pei Yueran and Li Chuanmo were greeting Jiang Philip when she came out.

"Huahua!"

"Ranran!"

Both of them giggled as they hugged each other.

"I've told you to stop calling me by such a childish nickname. I'm now a mother." Su Qianhua protested.

"Didn't you say that I should adopt you a while ago? I can call you Huahua since you will soon become my daughter." Pei Yueran teased.

"Do you want to taste my fists?" Su Qianhua threatened, bunching up her petite hands. Small as they looked, the power contained within could not be underestimated.

"You want to beat your old mother up?" Pei Yueran asked in mock horror.

Then they both dissolved into giggles again, while Jiang Philip and Li Chuanmo shook their heads at their antics.

"I've missed you so much! Have you seen David?"

"Of course. He's the cutest baby I've seen in a long while." Pei Yueran gushed.

Su Qianhua looked smug, "I think so too. You had better book him as your son-in-law. Don't allow this good water to flow into other people's fields."

Pei Yueran rolled her eyes, "Childbirth hasn't stopped you from talking nonsense." Li Chuanmo frowned, as if he could already see his tender daughter falling into the hands of a stinky boy.

Speaking of childbirth, Su Qianhua wrinkled her face, "It was so painful! It felt like I was dying before they eventually gave me anaesthesia."

While in labor, she wondered why some women would face this kind of pain and still go on to give birth to several children. She was terribly shocked to read the story of a woman who had forty children.

Forty! She couldn't begin to imagine the concept of experiencing such intense level of pain that number of times!

Pei Yueran was sympathetic. She could still remember how difficult it was for her when she gave birth to Han Yichen. Then, anaesthesia wasn't very common, but Han Lei had badgered the doctor until he sought for it in one of the nearby hospitals and administered it to her.

Remembering him now soured her mood somewhat. His shadow was lingering every corner she turned.

She quickly adjusted her mood before Su Qianhua could notice. She refused to let thoughts of him dampen her mood.

She said, "And let's not mention the journey of raising those children. That is a feat all on its own. Women and mothers all over the world are heroes in that regard."

Su Qianhua agreed very much, "It hasn't even been more than a full month yet, but I can tell you that it's been hard work. Even with my mom and Philip's mom helping us, it has still not been easy."

"I can imagine. The first few months are always the most difficult."

"Still I don't regret it. He has already brought us so much joy. I don't think I'll mind having another child."

Pei Yueran looked surprised, "Really? That's not bad though. Children are a real blessing, and It can be very gratifying to watch them grow up."

"More importantly, their father is just too irresistible." Su Qianhua said with a naughty smile.

Pei Yueran shook her head. This friend of hers was a lost cause.

Changing the topic, she assessed her friend, "You look well rested though. Motherhood sure looks good on you," Pei Yueran said sincerely. Su Qianhua was positively glowing.

"Thank you." Su Qianhua said with a blooming smile.

As they chatted further, the baby monitor transmitted crying sounds. David was awake.

Like a rallying tone, his cries gathered everyone together and they moved to the nursery.

The baby was kicking strongly, lungs on full trumpet mode as he belted out his discordant melodies. Kathy couldn't help herself, she carried him and tried to soothe him, but he would have none of it.

Resigned, she passed him to his mother.

Su Qianhua took him and patted his cheek. His fake cries stopped instantly. Kathy was envious. She tried carrying him again and his cries resumed.

"Can I try carrying him?" Pei Yueran asked.

Kathy nodded and passed the baby to her. As soon as he settled in her arms, his cries stopped. Kathy watched in amazement and envy as he even waved his chubby arms in happiness.

Little Theater:

LCM: You want a baby too?

PYR: Don't you? Isn't David so cute?

LCM: Fine, then let's try harder okay?

PYR: (At the thought of his methods, she felt her waist ache faintly) Forget it. Who wants to try harder with you?!
