4 New Friend

The school looked a little newer than Abby's house, but it wasn't much better. It was made out of brick, and she noticed that the school had around ten windows in the front. A couple of them were completely shattered. The lawn surrounding the building was at least trimmed, but she still cringed at the fact that she'd actually need to go to the school on a daily basis. She slowly opened the car door after her mom pulled up to the school, and hoisted her backpack onto her shoulder. She smiled, hoping that everyone would see her as a confident girl, which might make her popular. She watched as the freshman from earlier were smiling back at her, which made her kind of happy. Abby then noticed their fashion. It was sort of like the fashion in her old town, but a little bit over-the-top. She looked like any average teenager, and she hoped that everyone would see her that way. All of a sudden, Abby saw a girl with light-brown hair bouncing towards her. She looked like she was a senior or something, but was acting like a kid in elementary school. "Hi!" the girl said enthusiastically. "Hello." Abby replied with a kind smile. "The name's Maxine, what 'bout you?" She said. She had a strong southern accent. "I'm Abby." said Abby. "Are you new 'round here? I've never seen you before." Maxine asked. "I just moved here yesterday." Abby responded briefly. "Are you the one who bought the 'ol house on J Street? There's been rumors going 'round that someone here was buyin' it." "Actually, yes. That's me. It's so cluttered and gross, like it'll fall apart at any second." Abby said with a nervous laugh. "They say that house is haunted!" Maxine exclaimed. "Somebody famous died there. His name was-" Maxine got cut off from the bell ringing. "Oh! Let's get inside, I'll give you a tour o' the school."

The building only looked bad on the outside, because on the inside it looked like any average school (besides the broken widows). It was pretty small, but that was fine with Abby because she would probably get lost if it were any bigger. While Maxine was blabbering on about the history of the school and how "haunted" it was, Abby noticed that a lot of the kids were staring at her. She hoped it was because she was new and that she didn't stand out too much.
