2 Ch. 1

Monday mornings are the worst for Evie, especially now that she's left alone in a huge house with no one to talk to. There are so many other rooms free to sleep in, yet she still remained in her old bedroom. It's still painted a beautiful shade of baby pink, which reminded her of her childhood memories. It would make her smile but by what happened in the last few weeks, she didn't know what else to feel except depressed and demotivated to do anything else.

Her bestfriend, Damon Wallis, always knew how to make her smile every time she was down even on gloomy days where she wasn't sure anymore if she deserved to be happy again. She blamed herself for their losses.

Damon would always prefer to waste time doing nothing with Evie rather than spend time with other people he barely noticed at the school halls, especially getting cozy on the couch and talk until they fall asleep. They could talk about anything, and I mean anything. She could talk nonsense and he would straight up understand! But there's one topic that he couldn't bring himself to utter. Feelings.

He wasn't that type of guy who wants to party all night and get drunk, realizing the next day that he had slept with a woman. No, he's different. He likes deep conversations or just doing nothing but enjoying company.

Evie calls him "Demon" when he shows up unannounced to her door with movies and popcorn in hand. Maybe because of the unannounced part.

She finally woke up after hitting her alarm clock like a hundred times. Uncovering herself from the sheets, she rubbed her eyes open as the rays of the sun meets her beautiful brown eyes. Groaning, she stretched out her arms and curled her toes, shoving the sheets aside. She laid there for a couple more minutes, lazily covering her eyes again, debating on whether she would stand up now or later.

Since she's now a senior, she doesn't need to wake up before the sun could. The last few years she experienced was so difficult for her. Mainly because she needed to get up bright and early to get to school.

"It's Monday already?" Groaned Evie. She sat down, gazing at the open windowsill as a gush of wind whistled its way in. She wasn't a morning person at all, so is being a night owl.

She reached for her phone on the beige side table that she painted when she was in middle school. It was supposed to be a beautiful butterfly garden with roses in them but the grass ended up looking like spikes with poisonous potions spilled on them. Damon said he likes the evil look that she added at the bottom. It would make her laugh at her own painting, realizing how bad it looked back then.

She checked her emails and texts she got overnight, replying to them one by one.

Standing up from the bed, she placed her phone back on the table and went to her luggage which she hasn't unpacked yet because she was too busy about her depression lately. It was somehow getting the best of her.

Her phone vibrated as she recieved a text from Damon saying, "hey, lazybones, I'm picking you up ten o'clock sharp. See you in a while!" She sighed deeply and sat there on the carpet, deciding what to wear. She wasn't in the mood to go to school neither is she ecstatic to wear bright colors. She chose to wear something simple instead so she picked a plain white shirt to go with her ripped jeans and a light blue hoodie. Casual and comfy.

She checked herself in the mirror one last time, tying her hair into a ponytail. She nodded, hurriedly swung her bag unto her back and headed downstairs to get breakfast only to realize that she's got no food but an expired canned of beans. She shook her head in disappointment because she had forgotten to run to the store to buy some groceries yesterday.

"Probably next weekend then." She punched her fist onto the counter, making her way outside to wait for her ride.

She sat down on the bench her father used to lounge around to read his daily newspaper or a book with a calming hot tea. Unwanted thoughts came spilling out the side of her head, making her remember the past and feel a bit sad about it.

I mean, It's hard not to think of negative thoughts when you keep on blaming yourself for their losses. It's freaking hard not to. After they passed away, she couldn't stop sobbing. Her eyes would swell up and her nose would turn red as she kept weeping.

She would think about those times where she wasn't there to help her mother with the chores at home or her father with the car repairs... it makes her even more guilty thinking about those goofy times with them. It got her thinking, "why did it have to happen?"; "Who would do such thing?"; "Why would they want to end them?'

Every day, it makes her think, "What really happened?'"

As much as she wanted to know what did happen, it was all over. It was all in the past and it's not worth turning back to, because she knew that it would only make her feel a lot more depressed and miserable. But one thing's for sure, she would do anything just to bring back who she had lost. People who were close to her heart. People who promised one simple thing and couldn't fulfill them.

"Cat got your tongue?" Damon approached Evie, startling her. "H-Hey! How long have you been standing there?" Surprised, she held her bag tight as she stood up, shoving all her thoughts aside. Damon confusingly looked at her, suspecting that she was lost in thought.

He sighed deep, saying, "Overthinking again, I see," He raised his brow as he lifted his hand and scratched the side of his eye, giving her his pity grin. "No, I wasn't." Sassily replied Evie, walking towards his truck, leaving him behind. Damon shook his head in disbelief and caught up to Evie.

She pulled the door handle and got irritated that it wouldn't budge. She tried her hardest but she eventually gave up. She took a step back, placing her hands on her waist as Damon lifted the key in his hand and opened it. Rolling her eyes, she crossed her arms over her chest. Some may say that it's that time of the month but I think she was bothered by her thoughts earlier.

They got in the car as Damon started the engine. She threw her bag unto the back seat and placed her seatbelt rapidly.

He stared at her, questioning her attitude. "Is there anything you want to tell me?" He curiously asked.

She took a deep breath, calmed down a little and ignored his question as she was staring far out the window.

"N-Nothing. Let's just head to school," she stuttered.

She may seem innocent and sweet but her mind is full of hidden feelings and random thoughts that caused her to overthink as much. He worries about her all the time. It's because she lives alone in a huge house, with no food. He sometimes wish that she'll just change her mind on his offer to let her stay at his place. You know, so that she wouldn't be completely alone and definitely not because he could spend more time with her.

He always felt something for Evie, since the very first day they met. He was nervous to talk to her about it. Terrified that she doesn't feel the same way.

"Evie, you're overthinking again. Just relax." He plastered a chill grin on his face while entering into the campus parking lot.

She will always ask questions, either she will tell them or keep it to herself, nobody can change how she feels. He may stop her from overthinking but that wouldn't stop her from being curious.

In fact, it made her even more determined to find out the truth. Because just like what her parents once told her, "you'll find out the truth eventually."
