1 (Chapter one. )

Can you change the station? Rachel asked her parents. When the song's over, honey. Rachel's mom told her. You said the same thing two songs ago. Rachel sulks. Her father chuckles. You know this is a classic right? He asked.

Okay. How about I make you a promise? Rachel's mother asked as she nodded her head. When you're old enough to drive, you can listen to whatever music you want. Is that a deal? Her mom asked. Rachel thought it seemed fair enough, so she nodded.

Suddenly, the radio changed to another station without any one touching it. John. Rachel's mother says, looking at her father. It wasn't me. He says. Rachel? Was that you? Rachel's mother asked, and Rachel shook her head no. She adjusts the radio so that it goes back to the same station as before. However, the station changes again.

Rachel, what are you doing? Her mom asked her, confused. I don't know. Rachel admits as she looks into the mirror. The radio changes again.

Shut it, Rachel whispers to herself, thinking her parents couldn't hear her. Everything seemed to have increased in volume, and Rachel couldn't bear it. Her parents turned around and looked at her, fear in their eyes.

Time seemed to slow down for the next few seconds. Shut it. Rachel repeated softly. Shut it! She repeated, now yelling. Something happened, and no one was controlling the car. Rachel's father reached for the wheel in a hurry as the car banged into a truck, the impact causing the car to flip a few times.

The glass from the the windows and windshield stayed away from Rachel. It seemed like an unseen force was protecting her from the shards of glass. The car landed on the ground upside down. Rachel came out with absolutely no injuries. She wasn't sure about her parents as the next thing she knew was that her world was pitched black.

She was turning conscious again, but she couldn't seem to open her eyes. However, she could hear people talking to each other, but her brain couldn't comprehend what they were saying.

Next thing she knew. She was sitting in a room by herself. A man in a wheelchair enters, and he was right beside Rachel. Hello. He greets. Where are my parents? Rachel says, getting straight to the point. My name is Daniel Charles. He says, introducing himself without answering her question.

They're dead. Am I right to say that? Rachel asked as he seemed shocked. Yes they are, he admits. And I'm sorry that I had to be the one to tell you that. He adds. So what's happening to me now? Rachel asked, curious.

That's why I'm here actually. He says as Rachel looks at him. See, I have a school actually. This is for young people like you. He says. Special. He says, describing Rachel.

Special is just a rude word. He cuts Rachel off. For weird or crazy? Yep. Sometimes it is. Or sometimes, that word can be used to describe people who are significant, amazing or just really cool. He replies. He smiles before continuing. You've got gifts Rachel. He smiles.

You know what? He asks. Look, just take this pen. He says, taking out a black pen from his pocket. Just take it. It's a gift. He tells Rachel as he holds the pen out for a confused Rachel to take. She takes it, and he starts speaking again. Now you could choose to draw a really nice picture with that, or you could use it to poke someone's eye out. He says as Rachel's nose scrunches up at the thought of her doing something like that. But either way, it's a pen. It's a gift. But what you choose to do with your gift is entirely up to you. But if you want to use it to do good stuff, I can help. He says.

This is when Rachel's mind and heart made it's choice, and she nods her head slowly.

They got into a car. When they got out, there was a gigantic castle- like building right in front of them. What do you think? He asked Rachel. I can't stay here. She replies. Okay. Why not? He asked. It's too nice. And I have a habit of breaking nice things. Rachel tells him.

If you break something, anything, I can fix it. He says. Not everything. Rachel says. I can help you. So that you'll never have to break things ever again. He says. You think you can fix me. Rachel says. No, because you are not broken. He tells her. She can see herself smile a bit at his words.
