A Car Worthy Of Apocalypse

It was an early morning, the air crisp and cold. The sound of a ford falcon could be heard from ages away. The sound the engine made was like nothing else.

As Zed drove down the highway he garnered stares from others along the way. This car could be considered the peak of muscle car in Australia. He had it especially brought over for him once he got his license. Zed remembered he had worked an entire 2 years to be able to afford the car. Well, that, as well as, other less honest means.

The cars black paint shun in the sun, almost blinding those who looked too close for too long.

Zed was currently on his way to DC to meet up with a friend who could help him get his car ready for the apocalypse. Cars were an important asset in the apocalypse which Zed had used countless times before. Even if strengthened humans could run faster than a car it was rare and didn't account for stamina. And although zombies towards the later stages of the apocalypse could be considered fast almost none could catch up to a beast such as Zed's car. The one's which could were especially evolved to spec into speed rather than health or strength.

"Hey system, can I upgrade my vehicles with you?" Zed asked as he thought about how important cars we're in the apocalypse.

The system almost immediately responded, 'Yes you can upgrade vehicles with the system. Although you will need a strong dungeon core to help with that.'

Zed understood and so he asked what the system meant by this. The system's response was indeed interesting. It turned out that he could infuse a core into a vehicle and have it increase the overall strength, speed and durability.

Zed would make sure to collect a dungeon core early in order to maximise the potential of his car. Nothing like this had existed in his previous life so he just assumed this was something which only the system could do.

Zed glared out the window as he drove along the highway. He saw a family who had broken down on the side of the road and remembered when his car had done the same almost a month after the apocalypse began. That had been bad for him since he was already injured. The same thing wouldn't happen to him this time, however.

Zed had been driving for three or more hours now so soon he would arrive in DC. To confirm his suspicions he soon saw overhead signs reading the distance to DC and indeed it wasn't far.

...

An hour and a half later he could see the city of DC.

As he continued to drive he eventually made it to the car workshop. This workshop was just outside the city and was surrounded by a wreckers yard. This meant Zed would have the ability to create a car truly worthy of an apocalypse.

A young man was out in the wreckers yard using a large industrial crusher to crush multiple small and destroyed cars.

Zer pulled into the yard and parked his car in the parking lot. When he got out he was happy to see his old friend walking up to him. After all, he never found him during his past life.

"Ahh Kagami, good to see you again!" Zed yelled out as he walked closer to his friend.

Kagami was a tall and bulky Japanese guy with a heart of gold. This was exactly the way Zed had remembered his friend from all those years ago.

"Hey Zed what are you doing here on a school day?" Asked Kagami.

"Oh right, I'm not going there anymore. That's not really important though. I need some help customising my car." Zed said as he grabbed his friend's hand and pulled him in for a hug.

"Haha ok, I guess. What do you need doing? Kagami inquired.

Zed explained what needed to be done to his car. Even if it wouldn't be road legal it needed to be done. Kagami agreed to do it, but to Zeds surprise, for free.

"Huh, why do you want to do this for free?" Zed asked with a look of confusion. He had not expected this at all. He would have paid as money would soon become useless, but this had taken an unplanned route.

"It looks like your preparing for an apocalypse or something and I know you. You wouldn't waste money for anything. So I'll do it for free if you tell me why you're doing this." Kagami stated.

The look of surprise on Zeds face became even more surprised. "Ok, your right... In three days from now, the world will go to shit. Come with me and you will survive."

Kagami and Zed had the kind of relationship where one would believe the other even if the entire world told them otherwise. These two young men had been friends since they could remember and that had forged such a strong bond.

"I see. Then let's get a start on it shall we?" Kagami said with a massive smile.

Although Zed had his suspicions about how Kagami could be so accurate with his theory, he put the thoughts away. Now was not the time for it. Maybe later he could discover the truth.

Zed and Kagami started working on his car straight away. First, they needed to make a schematic plan. The plan detailed the many modifications which would be made to the car.

Once the plan had been drawn, they began work on a turbocharger. This was basically a device which compressed more air into an engines combustion chamber giving the engine a boost in efficiency and power.

When they had finished fitting the turbocharger, it was time for the second modification. Zed and Kagami both put on their welding gear and began welding strong thick pieces of mesh onto all the windows. After this, they welded on a few plates of sheet metal to vital parts of the car as well as welding extra sheet metal onto the windows with small slots which could be opened to see out of. This was to protect from long-ranged attacks. The car now looked even more like a beast of the apocalypse than before. Next step was to add tire protection and a bull bar. The tire protection consisted of pieces of metal which would cover the front of the wheels from any damage. The bull bar slightly protruded out from the car but had sharp blades which would make it easy to run down zombies.

Finally the car modifications we're complete with a day to spare. It was now nighttime so Zed decided to sleep on the back seat of his car. Tomorrow he would gather the last of his supplies such as fuel.

As Zed closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep he system spoke, 'Mission complete, you have built a car worthy of the apocalypse.'
