11 The First Hunt

Phillip texted James and Jordan that he couldnt meet up with them later. He had things to do. They asked what he was doing and he told them his plans. They asked to go with him instead. He looked towards Jonas to ask him, and Jonas pondered to think for a moment. He told Phillip that it should be fine, and told him to get into his single cab truck.

It was a little bit older, as if it had been weathered by years of outside work. Jonas's family was rich but he enjoyed the simplicity and didnt have to care as much about the usage of work with the truck. He went to pick up James and Jordan from school as they had stayed behind for personal tutoring. He told them all to get in the back of the truck there wouldn't be enough room in the front.

Phillip went back there, and as he was climbing back, Jonas noticed the casual attire the boys were wearing. "We're gonna make a stop first before we head out," Jonas inquired.

"Soo, arent you gonna show us," James interjected.

"Yea you told us you have a badass power!" Jordan chimed in excitingly.

"Okay, okay look," Phillip rolled his eyes as he started to fill in a small space in the back of the truck. It started to take form and the appearance of a wolf pup appeared. It looked as lively as a real one.

'Aaroof' the wolf howled. James and Jordan stared attentively.

"Dude youre already forming your spirit animal?" Jordan asked.

Spirit animal? Thats the first time Phillip heard such a word. He was going to inquire such, yet didnt when he realized they were talking about the wolf pup. A bump in the road momentarily made them jump a few inches above the bed of the truck. They landed and laughed together.

"Watch me do this," he showed them the other uses his power provides.

"Bro you gotta show us how you did that," James asked sheepishly as it felt like he stopped to reflect for a moment.

"Yea we've only gotten to the part where we're starting to output more power. How did you manage to do this?" Jordan asked with narrow eyes as he wiped the smear off his glasses.

"I dont know ive just kinda been able to do it," Phillip too stopped to reflect. The car turned off. He looked around to see where they were going too when he noticed they were at a hunting outlet market.

"We're going to get you guys new gear," Jonas told them as he got out of his truck. "The shit you guys are wearing looks like you just got out of school." He had just picked them up from there. "Go to the clothing section and pick something not so, loose," he looked at Phillips hoody. "And take that off they like to see faces here." He pulled Phillips hood down.

"Anything," the three boys stopped and stared at each other with open smiles.

"Haha yeah, anything. Yall look around for a little while i have something else i need to do."

The three boys then raced each other to the entrance of the store. They all went separate directions when they got inside. The interior looked like it was the outdoors, as the interior shading of the building was brown with hints of green. There was live animals, and taxidermy animals. The canter had a small rock watterfall pond that had birds flying about. It was sectioned off and the ceilings roof above it looked as if it was open for the moment being. The natural lighting permeating the building.

Phillip stopped at the pants section and looked down at his worn out blue jeans. They were tough but didnt have as many pockets so he decided to get some cargo pants that had a lot of pockets. They were olive green and a little to big for Phillip at the moment.

He then looked at shoes and found some black steel toed boots and took those. He stuffed his new pants legs in the boots and tied his shoes. He then looked around for shirts. He took off his hoody and was left with his plain white t shirt.

He decided to get a workout shirt that was camo, it was shortsleeved. It stuck to his body and it accentuated his ardent glow. He went over to a counter, and bought a black velcro vest. It looked like it was used for protection and could hold a few more things. It had fasteners that would connect around his left bicep, and he clicked them together.

He then looked around for a belt, and then he was gonna get a hat. He couldnt decide on one, so he bought one that had the logo for East Beast City School. It was an A for aptitude. It was made to look worn, he liked it. He then turned around to find James and Jordan, wrapping up his hoody into another belt around his body, and clutched the bag that had the rest of his clothes.

James was looking around to find a shirt in his size so Phillip helped him look for one. Jordan was trying on shoes however he decided to get some fresh sneakers and kept the fresh ones on that he already had. He was a different ethnicity than James and Jordan, but they did not mind. People stopped caring about that entirely in the future.

He wore a sleeveless shirt that showed the darker tone and greater muscle tone of his taller than theirs body. They then started to look for Jonas. He was checking out the guns and due to the lax hunting laws, he was able to get one at his age. He couldnt get anything electrical, but he could get one more mechanical.

"Find something you like?" Jonas asked as he glanced over the boys and stopped at Jordans shoes.

"Yeah these arent as baggy as the other ones."

"Well im glad you like them, tell me your purchase order numbers and ill buy sets of them, cant have you guys wearing the same thing everyday. Itd get to stinky."

"Can't wear them everyday, what do you mean?" Phillip asked as James and Jordan nodded their heads in agreement.

"Well starting today you guys are gonna go hunting with me everyday after school."

"We are?" James asked.

"Yea cant let you all get away after purchasing so much stuff." He grabbed their receipts out of their outstretched hands.

They rolled their eyes theyve been duped. "Now you guys pick out a knife." They stopped thier gaze there and looked up passionately at Jonas. Jordan picked up a switchblade while James picked up a skinning knife. Phillip picked a tactical flip knife. "Now im gonna have to hold onto these after we head back, but you guys can use them when we get out there. They nodded their heads in bummed out but exciting nods.

They then left to go hunting. They passed the border and after a routine check the lazy guard didnt find anything so he let Jonas go forward. Phillip and the boys took off the tarp that covered them in the back of the truck and talked about powers for the rest of the trip. The car stopped again. They parked at a lot in a park that was mostly empty. Trails followed in different directions.

Jonas and the three boys jumped out of the truck and started to walk in a direction to one of the trails. The boys noticed the signs that said rabbits were in the area when they had just then walked into a empty clearing. It was filled with rabbits but these ones were agressive. They hissed at the humans in a fervent matter and angry expression yet moved out the way when they got close. The others were fighting each other in the distance.

"The first thing you boys have to learn how to do is catch a rabbit. But you cant use your powers!" He told the boys and they started to try to catch rabbits. They fell and stumbled over each other as the rabbits hopped about angrily with the occasional swipe with their little paws.

"This is never going to work we should just give up." James said as he sat down to rest. Phillip and Jordan sat down with him to join him. Phillip was starting to think he was right.

"Now thats not how i wanna hear you talk, watch how i do it." The boys sat back and paid attention to Jonas. He took a position in the middle of the clearing. He sprinted foward in the direction of a rabbit that was on the other side. The rabbit noticed the encroaching human and started to run the oppsite direction.

As it did however Jonas suddenly moved left, and after he did that the rabbit was running in that direction too. He grabbed the rabbits ears to hold it up and stopped his momentum. The rabbit moving frantically angry in the humans grasp but couldnt do anything.

"You can use your powers now," he looked over the three of them. But the same thing happened. James and Jordan was trying to use their gold and silver flakes to stop the rabbits moving direction but they just jumped up around the beams.

Phillip wasnt having as much luck either as his mist radius was momentarily uncontrollable as he thought as he lost vision halfway in the mist. Everytime the mist dispersed with a flop of his body, he thought he caught one, but every time he looked through his arms he came up short.

The mist started to materialize. The wolf pup started to chase after a rabbit but the rabbit suddenly jumped in a different direction in front of a tree. The wolf hit the tree, then materialized back into mist, and reformed back in the shape of the wolf facing the other way laying down. It held its nose down with its paws.

"Even your wolf couldnt catch one," Jonas said with a click of his tounge,"Again watch how i do it." He once again went in the middle of the clearing, the boys staring at him more expectantly. His body started to glow green when all of a sudden he lunged forward about 10 meters. 7 rabbits held up by their ears in with angry expressions. He put them down and they scurried in different directions.

"Until you can catch these rabbits without your powers and with your powers, you cant use those knives i got you." Jonas said as he was grabbing his gun case and opened the bag. It was a standard caliber hunting rifle. He polished the scope and was putting it on.

"Usually most people will tell you its safer with a weapon, but sometimes by using them, you dont pick up any instinctual skills." He fastened the scope and pointed it in the direction of a rabbit on a rock, about 30 yards away. The boys looked on with paused breaths.

'Bang'

The rabbits head had exploded by the impact of the bullet. Brain and muscular matter flew about as the rabbits angrily fought over the remains. The boys sat in silence, with a mourning look on their faces. This was the first time they had witnessed mortality.
