Chapter 2: Why do I hear boss music?

A/N: This book will probably always be first person, maybe third person for some bits

(A few hours later)

I sighed.

''Haaa..''

I'd regained the majority of my memories and realised why I'd been with my brother.

'I' had allegedly assured him that once he reached Body Tempering, I would take him shopping and buy him two things he wanted.

He'd managed to reach it in a month.

So now I'm out here shopping for something for the kid.

Here comes the first shop!

___

We began to look at a few things.

"I'm interested in that one. That's the one! But that one looks fantastic. Please give me a few more."

Puppy eyes.

Shit.

You've gotta endure this. There's no way a child's gonna get you to buy him more things.

''No. I said two, and that's all you'll get; don't attempt to be clever."

I ruffled his hair and grinned.

I'd acquired a few more memories, as well as a fondness for this kid.

It was a large alchemy cauldron.

''You sure that's what you want?''

Gu Jian firmly nodded.

''Mhm. I wanna make some potions. Mom always looks so cool when she's doing it, and they always do super cool stuff.''

He grinned.

''Sure, I guess. Are you 100% certain, though?''

''Yes! Absolutely!''

''If you say so…''

I brought it to the cashier, if you could even call her that.

I passed the cauldron to her, and she checked its price, going towards the place it was located.

''That'll be 5 emerald, plea- Young Master Gu?''

''Yeah?''

She stuttered.

''O-oh. You shouldn't be using these… someone of your stature should have better things.. Come follow me.''

''Oh, no it's fine, It's not for me, it's for this little guy right here.''

I pointed at the kid.

''No, no, I insist.''

___

Well then, I ended up spending a bit more than I thought, but I've finished!

''What next?''

I asked the kid.

''I'm not sure yet…''

''Let's just take a look around first.''

We strolled through and looked at a few stores.

'Jiang Forgeries'

He looked away, seeming bored, and I wouldn't have even gotten him something from there anyways.

Next shop, I guess..

'Entertainer'

Gu Jian looked at me, eyes pleading to enter.

''Can we go there?''

''Sure.'' I smiled.

The only other thing, and it (probably) wouldn't even be that expensive!

We strolled in(more like running for Gu Jian), and took a look around.

A figurine of a legendary figure, Zhang Yuan.

''Nope.'' The kid said.

A wooden sword.

His eyes lit up for a second, and he began to think.

''Actually, nah.''

A mobile phone. You might ask why it's here, and the reason is: Fuck traditional cultivation worlds, futuristic is where it's at!

His eyes lit up yet again, and he began to think.

''Yeah, that's what I want!''

I grabbed one from the shelf and went to the checkout.

Everything was sorted out rather quickly.

I guess it's time to go home, then.

We left the store, and followed the directions I remembered.

Left.. then a right… Then another left.. then straight.. then left again..

Goddamnit, why was it so complicated! I stamped on the floor.

I heard a few cracks.

Wow. I get that I'm powerful and all, but casually destroying this simply by getting a bit annoyed? I wasn't even trying to hit it that hard..

Well, I guess I need to be more careful now…

I began to walk, and took a moment to just enjoy my surroundings while doing so.

The fresh air, the bustling urban feel, the smell of a nearby bakery, all of it.

It felt heavenly.

__

After stopping to get a quick snack for Gu Jian, we had reached our home.

A house of absolutely enormous proportions.

I raised my hand, placing my finger on it, and it began to fade away.

We walked in, and the door re-materialised.

I raised my voice a bit, before shouting,

''We're home!''

Gu Jian repeated what I said after, albeit quieter.

Now that they knew, we walked to the living room.

''Alright, now that we're home, I'll help you set up your phone.''

I grabbed it from the bag, and began to unbox it before being stopped by Gu Jian.

''Don't! I wanna do it.''

''I don't see why not.''

I passed it to him.

He ripped it open with his bare hands in a flash.

Once he saw it, he had the biggest grin I'd ever seen on a person.

''Yes! Thank you so much!''

''No problem.''

__

I walked to my room and began to think.

Here, tech was seen as less of something to have fun with(unless you were a kid), and more of a tool used for cultivation and information on people.

There was a site for streaming, and a site for posting videos, and there were plenty of people posting things related to entertainment, yet no VTubers. The gaming industry was booming, especially in recent times, but there was nobody daring enough to post videos with a character.. yet.

It seems that things were a bit different, as this novel wasn't originally set in a futuristic place, but now that I'm here, let's see what I've got, huh?

___

I booted up a recent hit-game.

'Ancient Dao Ring'(if you know what the OG version of this is, I salute you)

'Classes Generating..'

[Weaponmancer, Wandering Swordsman, Peasant are your available options.]

I clicked Weaponmancer. It had the best name, and I'm in a Xianxia world. It's gotta be good, right?

After customising my character and clicking start, the game began to play a cutscene.

''Each blow of the wind tells a separate story.

The legendary Dao Ring was cracked.

Not by those from our home, but those from the Outer.

Now, Empress Mu Qingxuan is gone, as well as her soldiers.

Then, THEY stole the pieces of the Dao Ring.

Their newfound strength brought their ego even higher.

Each thinking they were the best.

They began to violently compete, and started a war.

A war leading to abandonment by the Higher Realms.

Arise, Tainted.

In death, and life yet again.

The Purple Fireplaces are key in stopping THEM.

Nyx, leader of Everlasting Night.

Helios, bringer of Golden Light.

Sloth, wielder of the Never-Ending Slumber

The loathsome ανθρωποφάγος δαίμος(Feared Cannibal)

Death, your only ally.

And one other. Whom the Flames would again bless.

A Tainted, one whose tale was never sung in taverns.

To fell them one by one, until the end.

To bring the pieces of the Dao Ring together.

And become an Everlasting Daolord.'

My character appeared, in a graveyard of some sort.

I ran to the door, about to exit.

[Locked by a contraption of some sort]

After walking up to the purple glowing thing and picking it up, a prompt appeared on my screen

[Items Acquired]

Unnamed Key

Closed Eye

What was that?

I accessed my inventory.

'Closed Eye'

Description:

[An eye from an unknown creature. Maybe one day, it will open and reveal.. something, possibly even letting you visit that something.]

Huh, probably the co-op item, I'm guessing.

I began to use the key to open the door.

There was a small battlefield in front, as well as a pathway to it.

Why do I hear boss music?

A/N: pretty short chap, 1.2k words
