Tribe Chief

"C-Can I have some more?" The little goblin girl said as her cheeks turned slightly red and she held her head down. To think she would be more embarrassed at asking me for more than wolfing down all the food in 5 minutes.

'Welp, I'm already full.' I gave her the rest of the fire lizard and then put out the fire.

I don't want to go to sleep and then wake up to the entire forest on fire.

"How did the hunters die? And who were they?" I asked. Now that I filled my belly with delicious food, it was time to get some information on the world I'm in.

"The hunters? Oh, some of us who have evolved or can fight are called the hunters group. The rest of us are just goblins and we wait for the hunters to get food for all of us. And we're only given less than half of all the gathered food. We were also told by the tribe chief that the hunter group died from a Black Bear..." The little goblin girl said while eating, taking chomps in between words.

'So its just goblins that know how to fight...But what about the so called Black Bear and unequal share of food. How will the goblins be healthy enough to become strong if they can't even have enough food to eat?'

The more I listened to the little goblin girl, the more inefficient I thought the way the goblin tribe operated was. If all the hunters died, there will be no goblins to take their position and hunt for food because their either malnourished or don't know how to fight.

These problems could be easily fixed, but I didn't expect anything spectacular from a race that wears loincloth on their privates for clothes. Though, I am apart of that race now so I think I should help.

"I just realized I don't know your name yet." I said.

"M-My name is Marina."

"Well, Marina, do you know where the tribe chief is? I want to talk to him or her."

Since I was only a goblin and not the tribe chief, then I couldn't force anything or push anything on the rest of the goblins that was too demanding unless I persuaded them. The only way to do that currently was through the tribe chief.

Marina strangely stayed silent and even stopped eating for a moment.

"He...The tribe chief has died to. We don't know what to do and we have no leader..." Marina looked sad as she looked down.

'Perhaps the tribe chief and Marina have some type of special relationship? Or do the goblins just value the tribe chief that much...' I was thinking to myself for a moment.

"Marina, do you know the tribe chief personally?" I asked. When I said this she twitched as the sad expression on her face grew more apparent.

They definitely had some type of special relationship.

"The tribe chief...He was my uncle. The tribe chief before him was my father but he died from a monster attack. And now my uncle died from an illness..." Marina looked like she was just moments away from crying.

I felt bad for her.

Having family members pass away is sad, not to mention them dying from a beast attack. That was way more devastating than dying from an illness.

"Who will be the next tribe chief?" I asked. Marina looked at loss as she spoke.

"We don't know. Normally someone from the hunter group becomes the tribe chief but they have all died..."

Little did I know, our goblin tribe was in a dire situation!

'So whoever is considered a hunter can become the next tribe chief huh? Then that just makes things easy for me! Though I already ate the fire lizard, I'll just show the rest of the goblins its scales.'

"This means that I can become the next tribe chief, right?" Marina looked up at me.

She had a confused expression on her face at first but then it was replaced with one of hope.

"Y-Yes, you can defeat monsters! If you become the next tribe chief the you can ease the tension of the other goblins!" Marina looked a little excited though I can't blame her. Having a tribe chief and hunting group meant the survival of our tribe and without both of them it was next to impossible.

"What exactly do I need to do to become the next tribe chief, though?" I asked. Marina immediately responded.

"You just need to verify that you can defeat a monster. In this case, just show the rest of the goblins the scales of this monster." Marina began eating the rest of the fire lizard and finished it in less than a minute.

It was if the rest of the fire lizard she ate before never existed.

'She has such a big stomach! I could never eat that much food before, I think its because of my new body. Maybe I have a faster digestive system...'

We cleaned the eating spot and headed back to the cave that the rest of the goblins were in.

When we got there, some were still sleeping up against the walls of the cave while some had anxious, restless, or hungry expressions on their faces. They were all tense and anxious that the tribe might be destroyed by a monster because of the absence of a tribe chief and hunting group.

Only a few goblins threw glances at Marina and I before minding their business. But when I held a dozen fire lizard scales in front of the goblins along with revealing the burn marks on my other arm, they were all shocked.

Some began jumping up and down from happiness and some were just staring at the scales. Marina took this opportunity to speak.

"Because none of us besides this goblin have what it takes to become a hunter, he will become the tribe chief!" Marina shouted.

The rest of the goblins jumped up and down and shouted out of happiness as well. Though there were a few goblins who had stank expressions on their faces and seemed irritated or jealous.

Takeshi ends up as the new tribe chief already? Wow.
