22 Inheritance

After hours of filling in paperwork after the test, Oz was now legally a proper descendant of Merlin. The head goblin kindly guided Oz through every bit of paperwork he needed to do, probably as a way of apologising and showing sincerity after the sternness and coldness he showed prior to the test.

After finishing all the paperwork, the head goblin turned to Oz.

"Deep inside Gringotts we have some of the oldest vaults imaginable. Ill personally guide you down there now to the Ambrosius vault".

Oz smiled widely at the head goblin's comment.

'So they do have things left over from Merlin! Honestly it was a shot in the dark in my book, I thought such things would have decayed or disappeared over time'.

Both the head goblin and Oz then proceeded down into the depths of Gringotts. The further down they travelled however, the more shocked Oz became.

'How far down into the depths does Gringotts go!?'

The vaults passing by at this point were all witches and wizards that had history to them, legendary names whose inheritances had sadly been left to rot. Finally after travelling down into what felt like near the earths core, Oz and the head goblin finally arrived at a vault door.

The vault door itself was small but it felt strangely familiar to Oz. above the door in powerful writing the vault was labelled:

'AMBROSIUS VAULT'

Oz stared at the vault for a while before walking up to it with the head goblin in tow.

"Please stand back Mr Ambrosius, the wards placed on this door are dense so it will take me some time to unravel them all".

The head goblin then spent a decent amount of time in front of the door doing all manner of hand gestures as well as incantations. Finally after half an hour of waiting, the door opened.

"Such a vault is something I cant personally enter Mr Ambrosius, Please enter and gather everything you need. Afterwards we will proceed back up to Gringotts".

After taking a long and deep breath, Oz walks in.

.

Oz didn't know what to expect when walking into the vault. Could it possess magical items? books maybe? Oz had no clue.

What he saw however stumped him.

The vault itself was barren, basically empty except for what was in the middle of the room. In the middle stood a pedestal with very intricate detailing on it depicting a snake eating its tail. On top of the pedestal only two items were placed.

'A book and... a ring? what sort of inheritance is this?'

Oz walked up to both items, grabbing the book first he stared at the cover.

'The book doesn't even have a title... what kind of thing has Merlin left for me here?'

Oz opened the book and started reading the first page:

'To my descendants,

seeing as you are reading this book it means that you are lost in the ways of magic, unsure how to progress forward. Us of the Ambrosius bloodline progress quickly until our cores reach the second step, after that progression slows to a halt due to our cores being of both light and dark, ying and yang.

In this book is a ritual, think of it as a test of some sorts that those of the Ambrosius bloodline must undergo throughout their childhood years. For this ritual you must collect a number of things from different legendary magical beasts, the more you collect the better the reward the ritual brings to you.

To give you a head start, I've left something special inside this pedestal, An item that is extremely hard to come by and will help immensely going forward.

I hope you thrive and prosper my descendant,

Merlin Ambrosius'

Oz stared at the message left in the book for him for a while.

'Merlin... this man truly isn't simple. The wizarding community right now probably don't even know the surface of such a man let alone what his true capability was. This ritual alone is something that would send the world into an uproar'.

Oz flicked through the whole book seeing all manor of different notes on the Ambrosius ritual. At the end there was another passage left by Merlin.

'Wand synthesis, using a powerful artefact as a catalyst you can fuse two wands together to create a wand with perfect balance. The wands power will multiply with that...'

Oz's jaw dropped seeing this note.

'Wand synthesis?! did Merlin also have two wands but fused them into one? It wouldn't be a far-fetched theory seeing as though I'm walking the same path he is, maybe two wands chose him also but he found such an arrangement not to his liking so to appease both wands egos he fused them into one entity...'

Oz smiled looking down at the book, this whole book would certainly become a boon for him.

'Legendary beasts though... I can think of a number of beasts that appear at Hogwarts in the next years that will be useful. The basilisk, the dragons, the dementors, all appear at Hogwarts eventually. If I can use all of them in the ritual then surely the reward will be huge...'.

Oz looked over to the ring next to the book. The ring had the design of a snake eating its tail, the same design that was on the pedestal. After Oz placed it on his finger, he felt a sharp pain and with that blood soaked into the ring.

'It must be testing to see if im truly of Ambrosius descent. Merlin really was a meticulous man wasn't he...'.

After identifying Oz the ring glowed brightly and Oz felt his mind defences strengthen immensely. Along with that, his core was completely masked hiding it away from any prying eyes.

'Incredible...'.

Oz looking incredibly pleased with the results of both the book and the ring turned to the pedestal from which they were laid upon.

'Now for the finale. I wonder what Merlin left for me within the pedestal...'
