A low growl ripped out of Clyde's lips as he held Maxine back. He knew her blood would smell delicious, but being this close to it had him salivating. Maxine whimpered in his grasp.
"What is the matter?" Evelyn asked, startled by the commotion.
"Evelyn, never use your blood again!" Clyde snarled at her. He was upset that he even had to tell her something like that, but how was she to know how special her blood was. He only imagined that it would be as delicate as it smelled. Everything about it lured him in and he knew it was that mysterious life force he could sense in her that was giving her blood such power.
Evelyn was shocked and her face paled. "I did not mean any harm," she said. "I had no idea that would happen."
"You have nothing to apologize for," Clyde said softer as Maxine began to relax in his hold. "You have no idea how special your blood is," he said.
