Chapter 57: Cat School

As soon as August saw the one clashing the swords, he knew there will be a conflict, just hoping there will not be a major one, but according to his knowledge, those individuals are never the calm ones.

[Flashback]

Vesemir walked inside one of the halls in the castle, Kaer Morhen in between a lot of young boys, all of them silently listening to his words about the structure of the world.

A topic that they covered now was one of the most interesting for boys: Witcher schools.

"Over the years, there have been several schools that were issued in the world. Our Kaer Morhen was the first one to be founded from all of them.

Other than our school of Wolf, 2 other major schools exist in the world.

One of which goes by Cat school and another goes by Griffin school." explained Vesemir, slowly telling the boys about the topic of the lesson.

One boy had his arm high in the air, asking for permission to ask a question.

Vesemir pointed toward the boy, asking, "What do you want to know?"

"You told us that Witcher does the same job, right? So other schools were founded at all. Isn't it better to have a single school and unite all the Witcher," inquired the boy.

"This is not what witchers created, this is what renegade mages wanted. Witchers were their creation and experiment, so when one wanted to create something other than what was already created, they created their own school to create their own experiments," explained Vesemir.

"So why don't all witcher join hands to defeat monsters?" inquired the boy.

"Simple, money. There is not as much money that could be earned through the hunt. Good contracts are very rare and it is hard to find something that would earn you a fortune to live for a year or two. So you will have to travel the entire world, searching for the orders that you could take and earn a bit of money. If we were to join together, that would be hard, since money will be the same and amount of jobs will be the same, but there will be more than one of you between who you will have to split your money.

Other than this, there is another reason for Witchers from different schools not to work together. Their goals and personalities differ, and working with some of them will be hard for both of you. " explained Vesemir

August asked, "How so?"

"For example, let's take school which goes by Cats. They differ greatly from a school of wolves. First of all, let's talk about something you should be aware of. The School of Cat is unique. The mages that created this school wanted their witchers to be extra aggressive and very sadistic.

I have no idea whether they chose their candidates specifically from young outcasts with a penchant for aggression, or if some unforeseen cruelty was somehow unleashed during the trials, but the final effect was a cadre of psychopaths, madmen, and sadists. Needless to say, the ill fame of their deeds hangs like a dark cloud over our reputation to this day.

So let me tell you boys if you happen to work with such a man from cat school, expect something bad. They are known to cause havoc and take on dirty orders." explained Vesemir.

August once again inquired, "What are their fighting styles? How to deal with them?"

"I hope you will not do that unless it is absolutely necessary. We are not killing our kin unless they force us to do so. But just in case, I will try to explain. They are not like us. While we focus on precise and accurate fatal attacks with our swords, minimizing our effort and maximizing damage we do, they work a bit differently.

All of them focus on critical hits. Don't expect to get a lot of injuries in fighting them, but do expect something that could end you in one hit. They are mainly focusing on their agility and flexibility, manoeuvring around their target.

But remember one thing. None of the Witchers want to deal with those guys, since they break our code. We do not take the contract of assassination on the humans, we can defend, we can side in conflicts, but we never take such a job as the assassination of humans for money. They broke this code, becoming outcast for everyone in the community of witchers." explained Vesemir.

"Anything else?" inquired Vesemir before slapping his forehead and adding,

"One important thing about them, they will always side with elves and take their contracts over anything that humans have to offer, so do be cautious of them." finished Vesemir

[Flashback end]

Before August could walk far, far away from the circle, he was spotted by the soldiers that were everywhere.

"Oi! Look, there is another Witcher!" shouted the soldier, attracting the attention of all others to August.

Witcher that was toying with soldiers in the middle instantly stopped playing with a soldier and walked out of the circle to get a better look at August.

As soon as he did, he showed excitement as a smile appeared on his face.

"Who do we have here, a wolf!" said the witcher in high tones with a smirk on his face.

Quickly arriving close to August, he almost jumped on him, putting his hand on August's shoulder and whispering.

"I don't think I need help in my job, you can leave"

August removed his hand from his shoulder and, looking at over emotional witcher, inquired, "Who the hell are you?"

With a snort, he replied, "Me? I'm a witcher Brehen!"

"And how may I call you, brother?" inquired Brehen with a smile on his face.

"I don't think I want to be brothers with someone from cats," calmly said August, trying to walk away.

Unexpected to August, it offended Brehen a lot, gritting his teeth he tried to deliver a kick to August's head, which was avoided by bending over to the front and kicking Brehen in the gut, slightly pushing him away, making him lose a balance.

But with no problem, Brehen made several curvets back, easily recovering from the attack.

"Coward," almost whispered August, looking at Brehen, so only he could hear him.

This made him angry. Unleashing his sword, he looked in August's direction with challenging eyes asking, "Dare to repeat this again?"

This made August even more confused, and he inquired, "What is wrong with you?"

"I don't know, just a sudden urge to teach you a lesson or maybe make a few cuts on your beautiful face," said Brehenwith with a small chuckle.
