39 Bidding War?

The moment the lot one five six came out. The basin was scheduled to be auction off for months in advance. Anyone interested in it was here. The bidding started slow and low.

I raise my hand. Trying to be aggressive.

It sort of work. There weren't many people bidding against me. And Knight simply sitting there next to me, I think he scared them off. His tone body was sitting so still as if he was a predator waiting for the precise moment to pounce on its prey. It was a bit scary I have to admit.

Before I could say a word to him, Cat or as many know her as Ceyx walking in the front door and raised her hand. It was just before the last call. Darn it.

"Seventy-five" the auctioneer called.

I wanted to scream. I almost had the basin and from past experience, I knew the Basin would probably go home with Cat, she never loses. The woman had money and was a pit bull.

Not that I was going to make it easy for her. I knew this was going to be a fight I put a cap of one twenty on it as things tend to get expensive if there was two in the game and I really don't want to end up broke twice on the same day. It was not going to be my version of happily ever after with me taking the basin home at the expense of my finance.

"Eighty" the auctioneer called.

Cat nodded and eyed me. I knew what she was thinking and smiled. This time not because it was a tactic. It was all I remembered to do after nodding again.

"One hundred," She called out.

We raise our hands and the price continued to climb. It was a bidding war. Then Cat raises the price just going over one twenty so I push again at one twenty-five. She calls out one forty it was a lot. I knew I could not fight it but I was willing to give it more. Gritting my teeth I raised my hand again. I wasn't going to stop trying knowing what I knew that she had to buy it at any cost.

"Gene, stop bidding. I promise you it won't be going home with her." Knight said his voice echoed around me.

"Okay,"

"Good girl,"

Usually, I would have screaming but this time I was glad I had Knight by my side. I had broken my own rules trying to pay more than I should. The auctioneer calls twice and I sat still.

It was like the normal me had return and the Vail was lifted. At this price, I'll deal with elves myself and get a new piece made just for me. It would be more effective than second-hand magic even if they demand gold and pearls.

Then another buyer steps in and made me smirk. It looks like the elves want their magic back so they were going to get it to no one wants to fight elves as they were as bad as goblins when it came to bidding for artifact's that they made believing that it's rightfully theirs.

Still, I wonder why the particular piece was bought off and not the others that were line up. It really wasn't so unique made out of Italian marble by a local artist in a simple style common in the countryside of Greek looking so plain that most people would not notice its value.

Turning to my right I knew trouble was approaching. There was nothing to distract Cat. So she would come and bother me.

"Knight, I didn't think you'd leave Finex alone on such a busy night. I never thought anything here would be that important." Cat said as sat down pushing her body against him.
