Chapter 3

I walk out my bathroom, rubbing my hair with the bright green towel. I ditch the towel around my waist and slid on my boxers. Just as I grab a t-shirt, my bedroom door clicks open.

"Hey, we ha- nice ass."

I turned around and see Terry smirking at me. I rolled my eyes, ignoring the sudden heat I felt on my face.

"What's up?"

"Oh yeah, we have guest over."

"Okay."

I slip on loose sweats and walk out. On the couch sat Carrie, Ally, Avery, and a female I wasn't familiar with. Terry sat in his armchair across from them, and I sit in my chair next to him.

"Have you seen the news recently?" Avery began to get fidgety, but kept a level tone.

Terry was lost in thought as I sat back staring at the unknown female. She was glaring back at me for some unknown reason. Carrie looked over at me, and noticed who I was focused on.

"I haven't introduced you guys. This is Sunny, my girlfriend. I know she's hot, but keep your eyes on your man. Not her."

My face lit up in a dark shade of red.

"T-Terry and I aren't dating." Terry laughed at my stutter.

"Awe, you got Ash all flustered." Avery looked as if he wanted to kill me right on the spot.

"Back to the topic at hand." Sunny said, standing up and walking over to our patio. "You never answered the question. Have you seen the news?"

I nod, "Well...kind of? We turned on the TV earlier and saw a quick minute of it."

Ally reached out to grab the remote off the coffee table, but stops halfway when a piercing scream fills the air.

"What the fu-"

Carrie looks like she's about to have a panic attack and Sunny rushes over to her, attempting to help her calm down. "We need to barricade the door! Now!"

Terry jumps up, running to grab his hammer and nails from his room. "Avery! Can you grab some wood from the living room closet?"

Avery nods and rushes off. I run to my room, heading straight for my closet. I dig around until I find what I was looking for. "Perfect."

I rush back out, holding 2 steel bats and 2 wooden ones in one arm, and a short machete in the other. I set them on the table, getting a weird look from Ally, but I shake my head.

Terry and Avery finish up and make their way back to the living room. Chaos erupts outside, and I close all the blinds and windows.

"We need a plan. This is quickly getting out of hand, and I'm not trying to die young", Carrie starts pacing as she speaks.

As we think in a tense silence, what sounds like a child screams in pain. I wince.

"I only have 5 weapons. I know we're gonna have to kill those things out there, cause earlier I saw one take a bite out of a man".

Everyone lays eyes on me, as I look towards the window. "I wonder how this all started..."

"It doesn't matter how it started, it matters how it ends. And I refuse to let us die, so let's form a plan. Do you guys have bags we can use?" Sunny nods her head towards Terry and I.

"I have 3 school bags in my room...somewhere", Terry says as he goes to get them.

"I have a duffle bag", I head to my room, quickly grabbing my black duffle off my desk. As I enter the living room, I look up to see everyone's eyes glued to the TV.

"I repeat! Everyone stay inside! It's a matter of life and death-"

The lady reporting the news starts running away from the camera as it falls to the ground. The man that was holding the camera screams as he gets attacked. The lady trips, and the camera stays pointed towards her as she gets ripped apart. Her screams fill the audio until it's turned off, switching back to the news desk.

The TV turns off, and I feel a tear slide down my face. I quickly wipe it off and place my bag on the table, breaking the trance everyone was in.

"What's next?"
