51 CHAPTER 51

"Come again? Can you repeat what you said, cause it seems like you are asking me to become your successor", Enzo said to Master Makarov.

"That is what I'm asking", Makarov replied.

With a wide-eyed expression on his face, Enzo said, "ARE YOU CRAZY!".

Makarov immediately covered his ears and responded, "No shouting!!".

"You can't blame me. You want me to become the next Guild Master of Fairy Tail", Enzo retorted.

"Look Enzo, I for one know that this is a sudden request but you taking my place when I retire is a logical decision. Might as well train you now in what I do"

"Look, I'm pretty sure that you haven't thought of this through. I'm not someone that should be Guild Master of Fairy Tail", Enzo pleaded his case.

"Look Enzo, I know of your past and I already know how you are making up for it. In fact, the entire continent knows how you are a good person. You have greatly helped in keeping the peace on the continent. Your work with the magic council had given you a favorable outlook towards everyone in the continent"

"…And that includes the members of the magic council?", Enzo speculated.

"Yes… It is one of the very reason why I am choosing you as my successor"

"What do you mean?", Enzo asked.

"When I eventually retire, I will also relinquish my title as a member of the wizard saint. When that time comes that you will become the next Master of Fairy Tail, the magic council will then give you the Wizard Saint Title"

"Look, I'm honored, truly. But how about Laxus, or Erza or Mystogan?"

Makarov sighed and said, "Any of them have the power or at least the potential to become the next Master of Fairy Tail but each of them has their own issues to handle. Erza is too young, Laxus has deep-rooted issues that he needs to deal with and Mystogan is too introverted for his own good…Besides each of them is too naïve in how the world works��� They don't know how great the responsibility of being a guild master truly is. Laxus for example just wants the title so that he can show that he is superior above everyone else…".

With a defeated look on Enzo's face, he said, "But I'm also not 'master material'. I don't even know how to run a guild properly. Let alone a guild such as Fairy Tail".

With a smile on Makarov's face, he said, "That's why from now on I'm teaching you the ropes in how to become a guild master. This would mean that you can't take any missions that will take too much time to finish. So, no S-rank missions as well. You will also start spending time in the guild. You need to get to know every one of the members. Cause the moment you become the Master of Fairy Tail, every one of them will become your children and you, their father".

Enzo looks at the night sky and with a defeated look on his face, he said, "I still don't want it".

Makarov then requips two beers in his hand and said, "Don't worry about it. I for one believe that you'll take the job willingly in the future".

"How sure are you about that?", Enzo asked.

"Cause that's what happened to me and now I love what I do", Makarov said as he gave Enzo one of the beers. After the short conversation, the two individuals drank their beers in silence.

"Since I'm spending most of my time here now, maybe I should buy a house? There is no point in spending all my money renting an inn. What's the point in all that money I have in the bank if I don't spend it anyway", Enzo said to himself as he walks the empty street of Magnolia. After he finished drinking the beer that Makarov gave him, Enzo decided to return to Magnolia and perhaps find a room to sleep on.

Enzo suddenly stops walking and he stood on one of the bridges connecting to the roads from both ends. This was done due to a river passing through town. From where he was standing he could clearly see the currently under construction Fairy Tail building in the distance. The thought of him becoming a master of Fairy Tail was never an idea that crossed his mind.

The idea of him becoming one was in fact, in Enzo's opinion, a stupid one. But he couldn't deny that aside from him the other S-rank mages weren't up for such a task.

"Enzo"

Enzo was then removed from his own thoughts when he heard someone call his name. Enzo looks at the person and he said, "Loki, what are you still doing here this late at night?".

"I couldn't sleep, I decided to walk a little bit", Loki replied. This was in fact, the first time that Loki and Enzo had a conversation. Most of the time when they happen to see each other they would just nod, signaling that they acknowledge each other's existence.

Before Loki called out to Enzo, he already saw where Enzo was looking and he said, "The guild is nearly finished huh".

Enzo then once again looks at the guild and said, "I know right". With a smile on Enzo's face he said, "Maybe this time, no one would destroy it".

Loki smiled when he heard Enzo's joke and he said, "Thanks for being there for Lucy. If it wasn't for you then who knows what would have happened with us then".

"Don't mention it", Enzo replied.

"Anyway, I'll be on my way now. Take care", Loki said as he left.

Enzo looks at the leaving back of Loki and suddenly felt something was off. He used his observation haki and felt something off-putting. He could feel Loki's presence reducing at a steady pace. He was shocked because this was the first time this happened.

'What are you hiding Loki?', Enzo thought to himself. Instead of finding a room to sleep in, Enzo decided to follow Loki. Throughout the night, Enzo could feel Loki's presence diminishing. Enzo thought of every possibility why this was happening and when the sun came, he thought of a scary idea, an idea that he hoped wasn't true.

Loki was about to leave his house when the moment he opened his door he saw Enzo was waiting for him.

With a confused look on Loki's face, he said, "Why are you here, Enzo?".

"You're dying aren't you, Loki?", Enzo replied.
