Chapter One Hundred and Twenty Seven

Detective Miller broke into a cold sweat. He tightened his fist under the table and loosened it as he debated his next course of action in mind. Obeying Captain Walter and releasing Dr. Griffin was the easiest thing to do, but a part of him objected strongly to that. 

He imagined another attack on not just the patients and staff at Living Spring Hospital, but everywhere else. He would continually blame that on himself, unless he did the right thing now. And yet, doing the right thing was going to cost him his job. He was at the crossroads. 

"Detective Miller?" Captain Walter said, calling him back to the present. 

Detective Miller looked up at once, feeling suddenly electrified. His lips began to move. 

"What if I'm right?" He asked, sounding almost certain of himself. "What if you're making a mistake by asking me to drop the case?" He peered into her eyes, "Would you ever forgive yourself for that?"

There was a long pause.
