Chapter 1Chapter 1: The Awakening of the Waters

Chapter 1: The Awakening of the Waters

In the distant land of Shuihua, the rivers, lakes, and oceans were not mere bodies of water. They were the lifeblood of the realm, endowed with a mystical force that governed the world. The elements—Water, Earth, Fire, and Wind—had each claimed their domains, and their interactions shaped the very fabric of existence. It was said that those who could master these elements could command the forces of nature, weaving them into their lives and forging their destinies.

But mastery over the elements was not easily attained. Only a few were chosen to wield such power, and their journeys were marked with great trials. Some walked the path of the Flame, others the Wind, and a rare few became one with the Earth. Yet, there were those who wielded the element of Water—a discipline so profound it held the key to both life and death. To control Water was to govern emotions, to sway the tides of fate, to heal and destroy. But this power came at a price, and those who sought it had to pay with more than just blood.

The village of Xiaohe sat at the edge of the Great Lake, nestled between towering mountain ranges, whose jagged peaks scraped the sky. The village was the center of Shuihua's spiritual and elemental training, where the children of the land honed their skills in the ancient arts. Yet, none stood out more than Yulan, a 17-year-old orphan raised by the elders after the great flood had claimed her family.

Yulan's bond with the water was something the villagers both revered and feared. From a young age, she had demonstrated an uncanny ability to connect with the lake in ways that were beyond comprehension. Some even whispered that the lake had chosen her, marking her with the gift—and the burden—of its power.

The sun had barely risen over the mountain peaks when Yulan stood by the edge of the Great Lake, her bare feet sinking into the cool, soft sand. The waters were calm, reflecting the sky above like a flawless mirror. Yet, beneath that serene surface, something stirred. The breeze that danced through the trees whispered of ancient secrets, of long-forgotten powers.

"Yulan," came the voice of Qing, her closest companion and the village's most skilled disciple in Shui Gong, the Water Art. Qing was a calm and steady presence, like the stillness of the mountain after a storm, and he was always there to pull her from the precipice of her restless thoughts. "Why do you always stand here, alone?" His words were gentle, yet there was an undertone of concern.

Yulan did not turn to face him immediately. Instead, her eyes remained fixed on the shimmering waters. "The lake calls to me," she whispered, as though the very air held a sacred secret. "It speaks of things long past. I feel as though I could hear the whispers of the world itself—if I only listened closely enough."

Qing's eyes narrowed, and he glanced at the lake uneasily. "The elders say that the lake holds memories, but those memories are not meant for us to uncover. You must be careful, Yulan. The waters are not kind to those who seek forbidden knowledge."

Yulan smiled softly, her expression almost wistful. "Perhaps the waters are kinder than the world believes."

A loud splash interrupted their conversation, followed by a rush of wind that sent ripples across the lake's surface. Yulan's heart raced, and Qing immediately raised his hands, preparing to manipulate the water with his Shui Gong. But Yulan stopped him with a raised hand.

"No, Qing," she said, her voice steady and calm. "Let it come. The lake is testing me."

As the waters swelled, the lake seemed to come alive. It was as though the element of Water was now in conversation with something far deeper than the surface. The waves began to rise in graceful arcs, their shapes twisting and turning with a fluidity that felt almost... deliberate.

Yulan's eyes closed, and her body swayed gently as she tuned her senses to the flow of energy around her. It was then that she felt it—the presence of another element. The Wind, sharp and swift, began to swirl around her like a restless spirit, carrying with it the scent of the distant mountain ranges. The elements were converging, and she could feel the delicate balance between them.

"Do you feel it?" Yulan whispered to Qing, her voice laced with awe. "The Wind is here... and Earth is near."

Qing frowned but did not speak. The air had grown heavier, and the ground beneath their feet seemed to hum with a hidden power. The ancient trees that surrounded the village began to sway, their leaves rustling like whispers from a forgotten past. The balance of the elements was shifting, as though nature itself was reaching out to test her resolve.

Suddenly, a crackling sound split the air, followed by a sharp scent of ash. A wave of heat swept over them as a small flame flared to life at the edge of the lake. It was not natural—no mere ember from a fire, but something far more powerful, a force that seemed to belong to another realm entirely.

Yulan turned towards the flame, her heart pounding. The Fire element, unpredictable and volatile, had joined the dance of elements. This was no ordinary fire. This was the Flame of the Wilds, an ancient fire that burned with an intensity that could both create and destroy. It had been dormant for centuries, locked away in the deep caverns beneath Shuihua. Yet, now it was free.

A voice, deep and rich, echoed through Yulan's mind, as if carried on the wind itself. "You are the child of the waters, but you are also the child of the elements. The balance is broken, and only you can restore it. Will you answer the call?"

The wind howled in response, sending a gust so powerful that Yulan was nearly thrown off her feet. The lake surged with energy, and the flame leapt higher, dancing in the air like a wild spirit.

Qing's voice snapped her out of her trance. "Yulan, get back! The elements are unstable. If you're not careful, you could unleash something that cannot be contained."

But Yulan did not move. Instead, she stepped forward, extending her hands toward the flame. The water swirled around her feet, rising to meet the flame. For a moment, the fire and water stood in a delicate standoff—two opposing forces, each threatening to overwhelm the other.

"I am not afraid," Yulan murmured, her fingers trembling as she called upon the power of the lake, drawing on the strength of her ancestors. She called upon the ancient spirit of the Wind, summoned the Earth beneath her feet, and beckoned the flame to yield. The elements were all connected. She could feel them, each one a part of the other, each one dependent on the balance of the others.

For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The wind ceased its howling, the fire's flames slowed, and the waters calmed. Yulan's chest rose and fell with each breath as she held the elements in a fragile equilibrium.

"You have awakened the ancient forces, Yulan," a new voice—soft, ethereal—whispered in her ear. It was the voice of the Earth, ancient and wise. "The world is shifting. You must learn to wield the four elements, not as separate forces, but as one. Only then will you have the power to restore balance."

Yulan nodded, her heart resolute. "I will not let the elements destroy Shuihua. I will learn to master them all."

But as the waters calmed and the fire dimmed, she could feel something else stirring beneath the surface—an energy darker than any force she had encountered before, a presence that had been waiting in the shadows.

The balance was delicate, and it was only a matter of time before the forces that Yulan had awakened would either save the world... or tear it apart.

The Fate Of The World Is In My Hands, But All I Want To Do Is Eat!

'Kill monsters, eat meat' 'I mean, Kill monsters, save lives. Got it.' 'Tut, I could've sworn that the first one sounded better.' She wasn't a girl looking for freedom or self-righteous liberation by a hero, or whatever shit a girl who suffered for almost all her life would crave. -the shit of a life she was living was horrible, but it was bearable, and so she got used to it. Rather, instead of freedom, what this little missy wanted was money. Lots and lots of them so she never has to worry about the next day. Money - bountiful enough that when she has to spend, she doesn't need to look back or calculate her assets to see how much she has left. Money - bountiful enough to get all the fried chicken she could ever dream of. Yeah, you heard it, fried chicken. For those who did not have money to spare leisurely, getting fried chicken was like a pipe dream to them and she had been one of those unfortunate souls. A comfortable roof above her head and no worries as to when she would get ordered around to steal. No worries about when she would get her next meal-- That was her liberation. And she got it. Just that, she got it most absurdly. Awakened! Those were the people ruling the world, alongside beastly and deadly monsters who threatened the safety of average human beings. And those awakened call the shots. Alice never dreamed she would one day be awakened, and compared to others with their game-like system displaying their attributes and strength; she had a full-grown man whom only she could hear, watching her back at every turn and telling her what to do. He was kinda a pain in the ass but she couldn't complain. It was this gift he had bestowed on her that made her the most powerful Awakened there was with stats that even S-class awakeneds couldn't compare to. She was the boss, now. Mwa-hahahahaha. But life didn't go as easy and leisurely as she planned. With great power comes great responsibility, right? Well, in her case with great power comes great hunger. She couldn't go a moment without getting hungry and her stomach had become a bottomless pit. And to get food, she needed money, and to get money, she had to hunt monsters. The monsters plagued humanity, causing catastrophes and taking lives mercilessly. Those monsters, as scary as they may be, were her target and she had to face them head-on. The bigger the monsters the more money she would gain. Yeah, that was the plan, but... This guy acting as her system seemed to have other plans, putting her at the forefront of 'justice' and having her clean the mess he somewhat created. 'Ugh, I can already sense a shadow of foreboding. Someone, please tell me I'm not acting the main character role. I just want to eat, okay?'
