The Warrior Princess

I was born during the era when war was a plague and death was the only survival tool that was left for my people. I had watched my family treat me differently all because of a scar I possessed that symbolises another community. I watched my father set out for war every day and night and how the women were subjected to hard labour and prayers that their mates returned with their limbs intact and their lives. But for me? Death was the rhythm that completed the melodious song of life that I was ready to dance to. A tale just like the one my grandmother sang to me separately every night about the warrior Queen of Zaria. Women never went to war, so my mother's mother told me when I stood tall to defend my gender in front of the king's men when they took my younger brother to join the army.
