We Live In A Society

Raindrops patter the windows as roaring thunder reverberates in coven-dark skies, lightning flashes as the sound barriers shattered as if mare inconveniences, the tell-tale signs of a battle above the atmosphere.

The streets bare of life as any individual with the tiniest hint of self-preservation sought shelter from the battle between the government and the revolutionaries. The past few months has seen a rise in tension even the common folk of Abuja; consisting of a mostly non-powered population, have noticed this.

The revolutionaries as they call themselves were those that originally had the hearts of the people, they preached messages of equality, opportunities and hope, a different path for the people away from the corrupt government.

A group that seemingly came out of the woodworks yet showcased strength and powers that were able to contend with the strongest ability users the government had in its line-up. 'Dogs' as the public referred to the governments' ability users in the safety of their minds, never brave enough to utter such words in case they were heard.

The dogs were the arms of the government used to put down any form of opposition to their regime, they kept the public in check maintaining a decorum of orderliness yet the oppression was felt by the people.

Societies degeneration began a hundred and fifty-two years prior to be exact, the year was 2021 where an outbreak of a deadly virus spread. Entire countries were brought to the brink as half the population of the planet were infected and millions died, there were those that were blessed enough to show no symptoms, they simply lived their lives regularly but were unknowingly transmitting the virus to others.

The recess of the virus brought out the inner greed of man as civil war became rampart around the globe, it was madness.

Three years after the first outbreak a cure was found rather than the suppressant that was released to the public years prior. This was the catalyst to the 'Emergence'.

The virus, suppressant and cure mixed together in the blood caused a chain reaction, wide spread mutations on a biblical scale occurred but the effects of these mutations weren't apparent in the short term. Years later as a new generation was ushered in the first signs bloomed.

All it took was a moment of high emotional outbursts or a deep depressive state to cause an emergence - children with the ability to lift tonnes, men able to control the minds of anyone within a certain radius, Instinctive knowledge of the biological structures of organisms and how to rearrange them to your whims to name but a few.

The governments around the world in an effort to control this pushed forward multiple bills that ordered those that manifested to willingly turn their selves in to be catalogued, tracked and examined. Families were given incentives to turn their loved ones in for the betterment of everyone, to 'help' individuals control their abilities.

This did not last.

Inhuman experiments were carried out by various governments and organisations trying to figure out what the cause of emergence was, the public outrage was astronomical.

Individuals rallied others under their banner to revolt against governments, this was the precursor to the Third World War however this wear was different from what people thought it would be. It wasn't country against country but rather ability users forming groups attacking governments, this became a trend in every country as there was no lack of greed in the human heart.

Some found that they weren't strong enough to compete for power in their countries, so they migrated to the neighbouring countries to get a piece of the pie. Nowhere was spared.
