The Dream

The city was glowing brightly, the amber embers flowing magically, the destruction violent yet beautiful. The flames raged and danced, their passion obvious as they spread warmth and violence with each step, each twirl, each jump. Maila stood from a distance, watching the vile destruction, awestruck at the dangerous beauty of it all. She was shaken from her trance when a figure ran up to her and shook her. Its face was misty, its features indistinguishable as it panicked around Maila.

"Somethings wrong, you need to wake up! Wake up, please!"

A pure white figure descended behind it though, and Maila was entranced by the graceful flow of her wings as she descended from the heavens. Her hair was silver and curly, reaching her shoulders, a thin gold headband crowning her silky hair. She had tanned skin and soft freckles, matched with azure blue eyes that seemed to reflect light like a diamond. She wore a long gown made of white silky material, and had long and powerful wings, which gave her beauty and grace.

"Child, you have a lot to deal with right now, a world full of darkness, and light which you cannot find. You must be careful, and be tricky with who you trust, as people are not who they seem to be. But right now, you must wake."

Maila's features molded into confusion as she looked at the figure shaking her, still telling her to wake. His features seemed familiar...

Sulon.

Maila was shaken awake and her eyes flickered open as a voice became clearer. Her head was buzzing slightly and the darkness of the chamber was unbearable. There was no candlelight, no enchantment to dazzle to room beautifully, no comforting light to warm the situation with its soft flicker and glow. Unable to adjust to the darkness, Maila grabbed a hold of the person shaking her lightly.

"Wh-who is that? I can't see..." she mumbled, her voice hoarse, her throat dry from the lack of water.

"It's me, Sul. Are you okay? I heard you mumbling in your sleep, and your eyes were open, I could see them glow, Maila, glow. What happened?"

Maila didn't respond as she thought of the angel that descended from the heavens, and spoke to her, Sora, Goddess of Skies. She was beautiful, but why did she speak to her? Why not Naidi, and what did she mean by darkness and light? Obviously there would be enemies and opponents, but were they the darkness? Surely, there must've been something else she'd missed...

And then the doors opened.

A low grumble was heard and the doors slowly opened, soft light flying in. Maila glanced at the doors, then at Sulon, who also seemed confused. They lay down, and pretended to be asleep as two unknown women walked in. Their footsteps echoed in the grand room, and some Elves and Kalibri stirred at the unplanned entering of two people. The Kalibri leaders said they would collect them personally and not to open the doors to anyone but them...

Someone grabbed Maila by her platinum blonde hair suddenly, and she let out a gasp of surprise, squeaking at the intense pain of the firm grip.

"IT'S THEM!" the woman behind her yelled, and some Elves stood up, along with some Kalibri, one of which being the old woman who had the glowing eye and odd prophecy.

The woman kept a firm grip on Maila's hair, and Maila crouched to ease the pain, as the other woman pushed past confused citizens and grabbed Sulon, who yelled at her to get off without success. The two were pushed out of the grande room and the old woman began screaming.

"Leave her alone! That's my daughter! Give her back, she didn't do anything! My elf baby!"

Maila's eyes watered at the lady's attempt, and she covered her mouth. Perhaps it was to keep up the act, or maybe it was because the woman was trying to save her, neither making her any less emotional. Out of pure desperation, she cried out;

"MAMMA!"

Sulon looked at the two and shook his head, shedding a tear himself.

They didn't know who the brutes were, but as one of them pushed the old lady and yelled at her, Maila grew furious. The doors were shut shortly after that, and they glared at the two women who grabbed them. The women's identities were a mystery, but Maila knew who they were nonetheless.

The Captain of the Royal Guard, and Second in Command for the Fire district.

They wore ruby red armour which glistened spectacularly in the candlelight, trimmed with fairy gold, containing the Fire District insignia. They also had long swords with a ruby in in each hilt, the blades bloodied. One of the two, who grabbed Maila by the hair, had raven black hair the was put up in a braid that reached her waist, whilst the other one had a half shaved head of amber hair.

The pair pushed Maila and Sulon to the surface, where the Mighty Four were waiting with the one and only Queen of the Fire District. Sage Rowot was known to have a quick temper and young patience, spoiled rich as an only child, and loving violence and bloodshed. There was a story that she caught her husband, the King at the time, cheating on her with some servant, and killed them both in a fury, resulting in rumors and even a children's song that was very popular years ago. The fire and struggle had left a scar, but children didn't know that.

Queen of red,

Her temper fell,

Her kings blood shed,

Upon their bed.

Poor servant girl,

A pretty face,

Hair in a curl,

Blood stained the bed.

O, Queen of red,

Whose wild fury,

left the King and servant dead.

Do you regret,

Or maybe fret,

The Kings bloodshed?

The Queen, who had a malicious smile on her scarred face, was stood before Maila and Sulon, a crown resting atop her tight red curls. She had dramatic red makeup, and a large gown that reached the floor, covered in mud and blood. It was detailed with white and gold bows and pearls, all glinting in the firelight of the burning city which was exposed.

"There you are, my dears. Maila, my honor, are you ready to be crowned?"

Maila's fate is catching up to her, and there's not much time left! Will Maila become Queen or will she free herself from the shackles of fate? What does the smile on the Queen's face mean, and is she as ruthless as the children's songs portray her to be? What a full chapter, still not many answers, but at least she's not alone!
