12: The darkness

"Dedicated to my fish head novio"❤

The trip was faster than she thought. A cool wind blew in the scorching sun. Oh she craved to get under the shade of the thick green tropical flush that lay before her. "Hurry up dear, you wouldn't want to get lost now"... Her father teased with mischief as his adventure seeking persona made him lightfeet for he effortlessly weaved through the branches. " All this trouble for a stream huh?"...she muttered exhausted as she thwacked a fallen branch across her face only for it to swing back at her with full force. Urmpff...she yelled annoyed at this daring piece of green only to be cut off by the loud barks of laughter coming from her father and Kay. *Yeah crazy...scream at the tree.*.

"Somore"...

She could have sworn she heard a whisper. " Did you hear that?!"...she cried alarmed to the jumping tarzans but the echoes of their hyena laughs rang through the forest. "Perhaps the tree had hit her harder than she imagined"... She thought following the path to catch up with her father.

Reaching a cleared space, she began to see the beauty of the resort. Large moldings of clay artworks stood high and magnificent as music and voices swam to her ears. Traditional worshippers of the deity all in white attires...a uniform Catherine had noticed sang melodies of tales she had yet to know. Sculptings and colors of the tribe scattered the clearing. Then she saw it...

Sitting at the left corner of her eye was an ethereal view. Water flowing so peacefully it looked like glass. Reflection of the leaves of the lush at it's borders and the eerie lone tree at the center wavered slightly by the stream's current. A statue lay in front of the tree. One of a woman?...Catherine questioned. Arms spread out wide like a claim to territory?. A call to silence?. Catherine was awestruck at the beauty. Slowly drawn to the stream like a dangerous melody, Catherine found her legs moving on their own accord. Leaving her father and Kay who had taken to dancing or should she say "flailing around their hands like seizured swimmers" to the music of the erratic drummers who hailed for an entertaining show of dance steps. The water seemed to draw her. She found herself drifting to the far restricted corners of the stream yet logic seemed to have left her and no one seemed to have stopped her or cared to look at the weird dazed looking girl zombieing her way to the stream.

"Somore"...

She heard the soft whisper clear and sound this time. Panic and fear should have been her reaction but instead she felt a strange course of urgency and courage flow through her body. Her hair whipped crazyily around her as she finally saw it. A reflection in the water...but only the reflection wasn't hers.

Suddenly she lost her balance..." Haaaaa..."she screamed but it was too late as the darkness seemed to pull her...softly.

"Somore"... She heard loud now..." "Come home"...

Before her eyes welcomed the darkness.
