CHAPTER 48 - DISGUISES

Unsurprisingly, the first person to sneakily leave the room was the so-called Jonathan Drane so naturally he had my full attention.

"Come on, let's leave." I tugged at Laura and we left the room.

Before we left, I sent a telepathic burst that shut down all of Darren's cognitive functions, effectively knocking him out as well as everybody else in the room, except for the stunned Hank Pym. While I didn't have any need for entertaining this as long as I did, I can't deny that I also got something from it.

Well, it was an imperfect version of the original Pym Particles so no surprise that his was lacking.

Darren Cross will wake up to the worst day of life as he would be facing a life sentence behind bars. If any single one of his contacts try helping him out, well there's always room for more in prison.

My work with Hank is done and it'll be up to him, or Scott even, to decide whether they want to work with me or not. I can even throw a freebie after fully understanding how the Pym Particles work and tackle Quantum diving just for the sake of it.

"I believe this is where we make our acquaintance, Mr. Drane."

The man in question appeared spooked due to how Laura and I appeared out of thin air as he was trying to get into his car and leave in haste.

"Who are you?" Oh, he was good, definitely good, with the way he totally acted as if this was his first time seeing me as if he had not been paying the most attention to me throughout the duration of the presentation.

"How negligent of me. My name is Vision. I would like to address you as Mr. Drane but I think we both know that name is fake."

He fell silent as he looked at both me and Laura, the former feigning in his eyes gone only to be replaced with an underlying seriousness.

"What do you want from me?" He asked. I looked at Laura and shook my head as I could see her relaxing as she saw that the other party no longer appeared hostile. If it wasn't for the time I spent copying Natasha to a tee, I too as well would have been ignorant of the faux pretense his posture suggested.

"Nothing much, I assure you." I waved my hands in a nonchalant way to show how little my inquiry mattered. "I just want to know who you are affiliated with."

His face scrunched up in confusion as he heard my question. "I don't understand."

"Hmm? You are a mutant, aren't you? I just want to know who you're with." The moment those words left my mouth, he immediately attacked by trying to drive a roundhouse kick to my head in advantage of our close distance.

To his shock, the kick stopped just a few centimeters from my face which was when Laura sprung into action, at least before I stopped her. You are not fighting under my watch, young lady. Not when I promised your mother you won't.

"What?!!" His eyes widened in shock as he saw that but was quick to draw back his legs after feeling that he could take them back but not forth. "Who are you?" His eyes betrayed the wariness he felt and I could feel his apprehension rolling out in waves as he looked at me and Laura again, eyes widening a bit in recognition as he saw the two bladed claws slowly retracting back into the latter's hands.

"Like I said, my name is Vision. And I believe you still haven't told me your name."

The police were already coming to apprehend Darren Cross and I could feel his apprehension growing as the sirens got louder.

"I'm sorry, but I can't tell you mine." He said.

"Not even a fake name?"

"Will that work?"

I chuckled and shook my head lightly. "No, it wouldn't."

Laura looked between the two of us with confusion on her face at how civil our conversation was despite him trying to attack me.

"Well, if you won't give me your name then I can't push it, but I'm afraid you'll have to tell me why you were there, and trying to steal Darren Cross' research files too." Now that got a more prominent reaction out of him.

I'd felt a bug when I was digging through the company's servers and without thinking too much I assimilated it and resumed my work and it wasn't until he left the presentation room did I feel a receiving signal coming from his pockets so I followed him.

Not to mention that I had a few hunches of who he might really be, but I couldn't be sure unless he admitted it.

I chuckled as he got into a fighting stance once again but given how close the police were in arriving, I decided on getting this over with.

The panic in his eyes flared out and wide as he found out that all his movements were restricted and before he could do anything, my hands landed on his chest and using the Mind Stone, I had wanted to break his psychic barrier but ended up breaking something else… her illusion.

As if a trail of dominoes, both the suit he wore and his skin rose and fell until what was in front of me was a blue-skinned woman with red hair and yellow eyes.

"Raven Darkholme." I muttered to myself under my breath which she heard and fought more violently, not at having her identity revealed, but her name which was somewhat understandable as very few people knew her, and even fewer knew her real name.

I guess this is the end of surprises for today.
