2 CHAPTER 02

[New identity assigned.]

[Foreign entity designated name – Mind Stone.]

[Purpose – Calculating…]

"The Avengers cannot defeat Ultron."

"Not alone." I said, keeping their attention on me. A lot of thoughts were going through my mind as the amount of data in it piled up in droves by the second.

"Why does your Vision sound like Jarvis?" Steve asked confused.

"We reconfigured Jarvis' matrix to create something new." He looked at me with an unsure expression on his face. "… I think I've had my fill of something new."

"You think I'm born of Ultron?" Despite the fact that I was currently computing data greater than all the systems in the entire building combined, I was but a human a few minutes ago… or I think I was. Was it really a few minutes ago?

"Are you not?" The captain asked unconvinced.

"I am not Ultron." It was the most logical answer I could derive. "I am not Jarvis." My directives, though born from Stark's programming were entirely different. Did I have a soul? I guess I wouldn't be able to tell if I had one.

"I am… who am I?" I wasn't even trying to be funny or systematic with that question. Who am I?

[Designated name – Vision]

That it was, but whose vision? Mine? The Avengers? Anthony Stark's? The Mind Stone? Ultron's?

Whose idea was I perfectly embodying?

"You don't know who you are?" Banner asked.

I slowly shook my head. Whatever it was that was happening really was getting to me, likely because of my now systematic and semi-mechanic origins and thought functions. I guess…

"Do you?" I asked back.

"I looked in your head and saw annihilation." Wanda said, her distrust palpable even from this distance.

"Look again." The scenarios and current flow of events were exactly identical to that of the movies. At least I had a crutch to help me gain a footing before I can walk on my own.

"Her seal of approval means jack to me." Barton dismissed, probably still salty about how Wanda mindfucked the rest of the Avengers.

"Their powers, the horrors in our heads, Ultron himself, all came from the Mind Stone and they are nothing compared to what it can unleash." Thor was probably defending me, or the Mind Stone having sentient host, I wasn't sure. "But with it on our side-"

"Is it? Are you? On our side?" Steve directed at me.

'Am I?' Vision gained his own directives by being in the side of 'life' which eventually made him more robot-like unknown to anyone. By being on the side of life, Vision's thought process became more linear and he would always prioritize the people over everything else. Always.

"I wouldn't know. I don't think it's that simple… for me." I finally said.

"Well it better get real simple real soon."

[Purpose -… Unidentified.]

I gave a glance at the prompt. "Ultron seeks to end all life, I'd rather it be preserved." Thankfully that seemed to take them off the edge, at least for a while.

"What's he waiting for?" Stark asked.

"You." I replied.

"Where?"

"Sokovia. He's got Nat there too." Barton interrupted before I had the chance to say anything. The thrill I would have felt upon being reincarnated in a new world, and one like Marvel was desperately underwhelming, all thanks to my now robotic build.

Banner walked forward and stood in front of me. "If we're wrong about you… if you are the monster that Ultron made you to be…"

"You'd kill me." I said plainly. It wasn't a surprise. I'd want to kill an independent AI with unclear goals if I ever met one. And besides this was Marvel, not DC. Heroes here don't like prisons all too much. "I understand your fears, your worries even more. If I really am a monster, then I'd say we all aren't that much different. If I'm not, then at least I'm not Ultron."

They all fell silent my words which suggested I was aware of their true nature. Old nature. I am not Vision, not the one Tony envisioned. Not the one Ultron dreamed of. I'll be my own Vision, at least a version that's true to me.

[Purpose -… Unidentified.]

But until then, I'll just live as I can.

Turning around, I saw Mjolnir resting atop a table and a thought came to me.

'Vision was worthy of welding the hammer, not because he was robotic, but because he chose 'life' above all else, same with Rogers. Will I be able to pick it up?'

Unlike the movies scene, they all looked at me as I stared fixatedly at the hammer and watched on with intrigue on what I wanted to do.

My hand held the handle of Mjolnir, and for a moment I thought I was holding a rock… before it became as light as a book.

They were all stunned to silence as I picked up the hammer and it took all my computing powers to maintain the calm façade I had been putting on since the beginning.

"Ultron is the sin of mankind. It'll take more than a man to stop him."

Thor stared at the hammer held in front of him and reluctantly took it from my hand.

[The Mind Stone has influenced the change.]

[Purpose – Be the Vision you dream.]

I walked away from them, leaving them to plan whatever they wanted while I tended to my own thoughts.

It had only being a few minutes since I woke up and yet I was about to go fight Ultron, dealt with an existential crisis, surviving a group of paranoid Avenger, had an object of limitless power cruising on my forehead and also being reincarnated in another world.

My feet left the ground as I flew towards a huge glass panel and looked down at the city.

'Become a Vision of my dreams, huh.'

I was strong. I could be rich if I wanted but that was vain and it held no value to someone like me. What then should I do? Hopefully I'll find out soon enough.
