31 The Inquisition [1]

"I'll wholeheartedly cooperate with the proceedings of The Inquisition. Nevertheless, I would like to know the method, which The Inquisition gonna use to testify to my acclamations?"

"The Standard Trial of course. After all, the only thing The Inquisition wants is to overhaul the affiliation of Master Calvin in regards with The Acheron, If there is any in the first place." Vivian stated, in a conventional, yet elusive voice, gazing straight at Calvin. However, she hasn't yet completed, so she continued:

"Regarding the procedure, I don't think I need to explain what the Standard Trail implies, and I will assume that being the heir of Clan Ulfred, Master Calvin is accustomed to such notions."

Even though the manner in which she surmised the situation was a little disrespectful, not just to Calvin, but to the entirety of Clan Ulfred, the truth wasn't far off, her statements were true, providing her with enough leverage to converse freely and straightforwardly.

Calvin too knew that, so without pointing out the obvious, he just smiled amicably and nodded his head in agreement.

"Now that the matter has been disclosed, we should commence with our undertaking. After all, assuming how busy Master Calvin is, we can't waste his time any more than we already have."

Uttering that, Vivian motioned to the members of The Inquisition to rise up from their seats, which they immediately did, after which Vivian looked at Calvin, just for him to follow through.

We too did the same.

We all knew what the assignment was, well, the destination.

The Prayer Hall, Arsius.

While we were on the march, Calvin had one thing in mind.

'So, my assumptions were correct. That old man has planned to sabotage the Trail Ritual.'

This was both the conclusion and the solution. Everything merged well within, without contradicting any of the factors.

Other than sabotage, how else were they gonna prove that he was a heretic?

It could only be done by some inner intervention.

But, for that...

'I won't let them succeed in their attempts.'

He has already taken a few countermeasures in case any of them tried to do anything suspicious while in the middle of the ritual.

...

Reaching the prayer hall, Alisha and I both stood on the sidelines just like we did previously. Unlike me, Alisha was getting a bit of attention from The Inquisition's side.

However, it was still manageable, and that too got averted after the Trail Ritual started.

Now, everyones' stares were directed toward a statue. It was a statue of Cyrus, a being from mythology, a myth, a being referred to with many names, such as Miscellaneous, Demiurgic, and Gallivanter, but was only remembered by one— The Drifted One.

He was a being like no other.

A living deity.

That was why he was sermonized as a God.

And honestly, I couldn't deny that after glancing through his sculptured visage, even though it was just a lifeless visage, a piece of the sculptured statue, but, the majesty it emitted was just unmatchable.

The magnetic influence it created was just phenomenal in its own right.

However, since it was my first time, I was the only one who was having difficulty concentrating on the matter at hand— The Trail Ritual which was ongoing just ahead of Cyrus' statue.

The ritual was relatively gripping to look at, Calvin stood straight in what looked like the center of an enormous circle, which enveloped other circles within it, which was constituted of different colors, indicating the boundary an individual should stand in, not based on ranks, but based on how much of the Magic stat they had.

And evidently, what I saw was a group of 20 Deacon-ranked inquisitors, the lowest of The Inquisition, standing in the ninth outer circle, as this was the most they could do, considering most of them were [D] or [E] ranked individuals.

And without the staff-like equipment that all the deacons were holding, which were embedded with a Blue-coloured mana crystal, I found it hard to argue that they could even last for a minute without passing out from the channeling pressure.

After that, were the group of priests standing in the seventh circle, the second lowest rank in The Inquisition. They too were carrying the same staff, the only change was that the mana crystal embedded in it was green coloured.

These staffs were basically a piece of equipment which helped and acted as an equalizer, providing sufficient energy to the Priest and Deacons to withstand their ground for at least 3-4 minutes in their respective circles, which was crazy, as most of them, 6 out of 9 were comprised of the same [D] rank, while the other 3 were [C] ranked.

However, essentially, everyone in the seventh circle had the same mana output.

How?

Well, the logic for that was plenty straightforward. Irrespective of their ranks, they all had the same rank of Magic in their Magic stat, which fluctuated in the [D] rank. Meaning, the [D] ranked Priests had Magic as their highest stat, whereas, for the [C] ranks, the Magic stat wasn't the highest, it was just the intermediate one.

And, if there was a space for mishaps, it was resolved by the green gemmed staff that they clasped in their hands.

Then came The Archbishop, Arsen Dimitri, the younger brother of Vivian, who stood in the sixth circle even though he was a B-rank. This signified that Magic wasn't his highest stat, but was still considerably high, and was at the level of [C] rank.

He had the same staff with a yellow-colored crystal on it.

Lastly, in the 4th circle stood The Saintess, Vivian Dimitri, who was taking up all the funneling energy and was further outsourcing it towards Calvin, who stood at the center of it all.

Rather than showering Calvin in the golden shimmering of the channeled light, it took an unexpected turn and fell directly on the book that he was holding— The Truth Arsius.

What Calvin now had to do was recite the lines written on the front page of the book, which consisted of a hundred words. If he received any backlash when reciting any of the words, he would be condemned as a heretic.

Pretty simple to understand I would say.

'Is the distance too huge?'

While the ritual was ongoing, I was trying to check the status screen of Vivian. I could vividly remember her being one of the individuals who was mentioned in the enraged comments section.

And the spoiler was too much intrigue to hold myself from not peeking on her Status Window.

However, just my bad luck, our distance seemed to be a bit too big for me to have a glance at her Status Window.

Well, let's try it on her brother then.

"Check the Status Window of Arsen Dimitri."

Muttering that under my breath, I could see a message follow through.

[Checking the Status Window and Potential of the character— Arsen Dimitri.]

'Sweet. It works.'

Since he was standing in the sixth circle, I was able to access his screen.

'Now, let's have a look.'

Fixing my eyes on his Status Window, I started to read through it.
