8 From the North

it's already 9 am when she got out of the station. the sun was now up and is beaming lightly. if it was a normal day,she would have took selfies with the caption #SunKissed but she can't. she was too shaken up with what happened. who wouldn't?

"hey Lei,im gonna drop you off your house. c'mon"

she followed Officer Rider on his mobile parked in front of the building. he opened the car door on the front seat,she hesitated but she went in.

"put your seatbelts on,you must be hungry. you haven't had breakfast have you?"

how did he know?

"don't be puzzled,you always walk around the neighborhood at those hour looking for food"

she replied with 'oh'. she diverted her gaze outside the window and was reminded of what happened back on the dark alley. she shook her head,pushing the thoughts away.

"you ok?" officer Rider notice her action

"uh..yeah"

"from now on you need to be careful. don't go anywhere without company,especially at night and at dawn"

she nod her head. she remember the two cops talking about the man from the north.

"did the northern killer already made it here in the city?"

Officer quicky look at her and back to the road.

"what?"

"i heard that he's here,and he might be the one who kidnapped my school mate"

Officer Rider tensed up.

"just...how much do you know about this"

"did i really become his target since i belong to his preference?"

He sigh. finally realizing that someone from the station leaked the information.

"about the possibility of you being his target is confidential. i can't answer that."

Lei didn't push the topic more. she kept her thoughts to herself. after the 10 mins drive,officer drop her off her house. the whole neighborhood were wondering why is she on a police car.

"stay safe Lei,as much as possible stay at home"

"i will"

Officer drove off. her neighbors swarm around her.

"what happened?are you in trouble?"

"what took you so long?it's already 9 am"

"you look extremely tired,what happened?"

she look at them with a teary eye. hearing them ask about her makes her heart flatter. but she was too tired to answer all of them. she gave them a smile before walking in her house.

She shut the door behind her and went back back to her room. she removed her jacket and has changed her pyjamas in shorts and went back to sleep. because of too much exhaution,she quickly fell asleep.

It's already 1 pm in the afternoon when she woke up. she got up to find something to eat from the fridge. Lei only found cold bread and butter,a half pitcher of juice,1 milk carton and an apple. she picked the apple and slouch on the couch. she get her laptop and log in to see if there's any email for her to work too.

"this lazy ass people and dumb sh*ts feeds me"

she smiled as she saw tons of email and files that needs to be edit,revised or even make it herself from the start. she downloaded all the files and while waiting her phone vibrated. she look at the screen and there was only a number. she recognised it right away. it was a call from the north.

she shook her head and push the thoughts away. she answered and was greeted by a heartwarming voice.

"hey honey,it's Dad"

"Dad,i missed you so much"

Lei quickly forgot her task and got deep into talking with her father. ever since she left the town,she rarely talk to him. for 6 years,she never returned home,she never saw her father in flesh. now that she heard his voice,she's yearning for his warmth and love.
